I do think there are some independents who have been slow to move on gay rights issues, so from a political perspective, I do actually get it. I just don't like when politics collides with social issues like this.
The simple fact is that the move back to the culture wars of the '90s is all on Republicans (that's how you know the economy is improving ...) I just think it's a shame that everyone is getting all wrapped up in it, Obama included.
The NYT is going around squawking about the latest Biden gaffe. I hate that this is considered a gaffe.
edit: By no means just the New York Times. They were ust the most recent I saw.

I dunno, Imelda Staunton sort of reminds me of the fairy Flora from the Disney movie. I can see her pulling it off, if that's what they're going for.
It seems like they're sort of imitating the Disney animated film, while throwing in a whole bunch of twists. I wonder what that's going to be like?

So my sister's other sister, just went into labor down in Savannah, she should be at the wedding. She's on her way now to see her sister and to be with the baby. Anyways, i'm happy she's going to be an auntie and that's it not me giving the auntie title to her, haha.
I totally agree about Obama's wishy-washiness. On the BBC, in the mornings, they do a review of newspaper headlines from around the world. One of them had to do with some issue that Obama was waffling about, and they just said, 'He'd be a much better president if he just took a stand, and went with it. He has the power, he has the ability to convince in speeches. If he just did it, you'd see people follow.'
I agree completely, and it's probably the saddest part of Obama's presidency that he hasn't been able to stand up for things he believes in. He could honestly create real and lasting change if he just said THIS is what I stand for, and then set about convincing everyone to go with it. He could do it.
I'm so bummed about NC. Our 5 year plan has us moving to NC at some point, too. Not cool. I just can't fathom what's wrong with gay marriage. One of my BMs sisters is a lesbian and just got proposed to 3 weeks ago - they live in NC. She was so upset last night that her own home state won't let her get married to the woman she loves.
Hey strangers! I am so ashamed of my state today. I live in the red county near SC in username's link, and I'm sick this morning. I'm surrounded by lying, cheating hypocrites and it saddens me. If we were to make "God's" law our law, then 99% of us are in direct violation of his definition of marriage, including those who think they voted for the preservation of his definition. All those people did was shiit all over God's definition of "Christian". I hope they're happy today.

That's exactly right. Conventional wisdom in politics, and it's held up over the last 40 or so years, is that high turnout helps democrats. Mostly because groups that tend to vote in lower numbers (young people, urban poor) lean more left than groups who tend to vote in higher percentages -- essentially the 65+ crowd -- who lean significantly more conservative.
As to the culture wars thing, this sounds like one of those things you could argue back on forth on for hours and never get anywhere, so I definitely don't want to go down that road for too long. It's a little early for that! But I can't help but say that in the first three months after the mid-term elections swept Republicans into power in 2010, a total of 916 bills (in 49 legislatures) were introduced that sought to limit access to preventive and abortion services in this country. 916. In three months.

'Morning! I hate to hear about North Carolina... it really makes me sick. It also makes me sick that 40% of my state voted for a random prisoner in Texas instead of Obama for the democratic primary.
