I'm almost positive that this was discussed at some point, but I'm behind and am just now reading KPS. The bride whose parents are making her sister wait to plan is the suck. If it was my sister and I, she could get married whenever she wants. She can clearly see sis is depressed about this and instead of telling her parents that sis doesn't have to wait until the poster is married to even start planning, she's just telling her to suck it up and be happy. What.a.bitch.
I don't even think the gunshots scared me as much as whoever had the gun (or at least we suspect because it all happened within a minute or so) being so close to our condo. Literally he (Ihe said something and that's now I know it was a guy) walked right past our bedroom window.
Then when the cops walked past (we figured out they were cops because we looked out our back door), they had flash lights and that sort of freaked me out. The cops even came onto our back deck.
The area we live in isn't bad, but it's "up and coming" and stuff like this has happened, just not this close to our home!
I saw that too, MK. Our situation was sort of like that because BIL and SIL got engaged two months before we did, and our wedding was two months after theirs. It was so weird for a while, because we felt we had to walk the fine line of not being too excited about our wedding because "they were first" and the words "don't steal their thunder" got bandied around a lot. It sucked.
Everyone has the right to be married whenever the hell they want to. And be as excited as they want.

Yeah, I think it's so selfish to have that long of an engagement and just expect everyone to wait.
My brother lived in a sketchy neighborhood during his undergrad years at University of Cincinnati, and he would frequently hear gun shots. During the riots in the early 2000s, he and his roommates put mattresses in front of their windows, and they stayed toward the center of the house.
When he'd dutifully call our grandmother every week, he gave her the impression Cincinnati loved fireworks.

No? Clifton is dangerous!?! I've never heard that!!
Of course during my 3 semesters at VT there was a murder and an escaped convict. And then the shootings three months later. So I guess it can happen anywhere.
Tuesdays, I have to eat lunch and dinner at school. Sometimes breakfast, depending on how early I want to wake up and if I want to park on campus. I have class until 10.
I usually bring food. There are microwaves conveniently located all over campus. I just run into the problem of keeping food cold until 6 or so. Lately, I've just been bringing a sandwich or leftovers for lunch, a bunch of snacks and a microwavable soup for dinner. I also bring the little tuna salad kits, but they stink.
In grad school, I collected money to spring for a small refrigerator and then donated my old microwave for our grad student office. That way I could bring something to eat and even heat it up.
The guys went out to lunch every. single. day. I tried to stay healthier and, ya know, save money.

BOARD WAR!!
(totally kidding, maybe everyone's at lunch or dreaming about lunch?)
I am actually dreaming about lunch! I want to treat myself to something that won't blow my cals for the day out of the water.
