Hmm they used Tupelo to rep MS . I think we have the lowest COL in the south but we are also the poorest state. I wouldn't move though because the COL is so low.
Why wouldn't they use majo cities in some states? For Indiana they listed Marion, IN...why not Indianapolis. I think Indiana as an average is below the national average.

Seriously. FI and I talked about moving and it's hard to even consider it. We'd have to move from our house to a small apartment and have a lot less money.
BTW, ButtrflyKate, your son is getting big! He's so cute.

I have a 2 bedroom (Declan's room hardly counts as a bedroom it's so small, but it's a room) and I pay $1400 a month, which is CHEAP.
Thanks MIAF! He's almost 2 now. It's going by too quickly! :(
They used San Francisco for California but I read COL is about 11% higher than Los Angeles. FI and I talk about moving to another state where COL is lower than LA but we have not really considered it. I think his career is what makes it hard to move, mine is way more flexible.

Your right! Coming from PA I couldn't get over how little things cost out here. But your right we have a lot of people unemployed. I got to keep my same job in PA, but work out of a Indianapolis office, so my salary stayed the same. So I get paid more for my job then I would if it went my IN cost of living.
The NE is so ridiculous. FI paid $395 a month for a one bedroom apt. when he was in IN and we pay $1200 for the same here in NJ. AND he had a dishwasher and washer/dryer set in his old apt. We're planning on moving to DE, MD, VA, or NC after we get married. We could have so much more for what we can afford.

I just made the connection that you're pursuing a nutrition career in Mississippi. Wow. Isn't Mississippi the most obese state? You could do a world of good there.
Yes MS is the most obese state and I hope that I can make an impact when I get out of school. It makes me happy that Michelle Obama is using childhood obesity as her platform. Over 40 to 50% of our children are overweight. Did you know that MS has one of the best school lunch programs?

I did not know that! Childhood obesity is a scary, scary problem. Our local school lunch programs are terrible--rectangle pizza every day. And french fries. My nearest city does have a school garden network though, I think that makes a huge difference. The kids are really involved and create much better eating habits.

Is it healthier? I'm curious because they revamped the school lunch program and we can't sell anything that has sugar as the first ingredient, but they still sell cookies and treats. I think they do offer healthier options though, whcihis good. But I've seen the food come in and it looks vile. The ground beef gets shipped in the shape of a giant cube. They just hack off pieces for lunch.
Re: COL living Map
Local equivalent to $250k: $327,750
The median household income for my town is slightly higher than it is for the state.
70K compared to the states average of 65K.
Average house costs $377,065 compared to the states average of $353,600.
I think thats why I nearly faint when I see some girls post pics of their beautiful 4 bedrooms they bought for 200K in other parts of the country!
I guess its all relative though. It also explains why some brides think spending X amount on weddings is outrageous.
DX: PCOS/Recurrent losses/MTHFR mutation (compound hetero)
5 hysteroscopies/2 surgical
3 Inject IUIs = 2 m/c's and 1 BFN
IVF #1= BFP. m/c at 7w6d. Needed 2 D&C's and scar tissue removal. Mild OHSS
IVF #2 = BFP. Severe OHSS. 4 Drainings. TWINS!
Charlotte and Raleigh are getting a lot of people moving here from the NE. They've realized they can buy twice as much on the same income living here.

Also, FWIW, upstate NY is WAAAAY cheaper than NYC. I bet Buffalo would be well below average.
