1 year in July... but by the time we're married it will be over 2 years.
... it's quick, I know, but when you know, you know. We both told our best friends on our first date (without each other knowing) that we'd met the person we were going to marry.
Wow, I'm surprised by all of the "long" relationships.
DH and I were married on our 11 yr dating anniversary. AW warning: We've been "dating" since 8th grade :O) (with one 3-month break up our soph. year of high-school, but otherwise together the whole time)

I think it has exceptions though. I'm going on 25 and we haven't been together a "long" time. I was just lucky to figure out what I needed and wanted at a younger age.

We are both over 30 - we've been together for almost 2 years. Yes, have been to hell and back with dating, and when I met him I knew what I wanted and knew it was him!
It could have to do with the money and being able to take on the next step of marriage too.
I'm turning 26 next month and have been with FI for 9 years (since HS). We did know we wanted to get married to each other for a long time, but because of school, getting real jobs, and all other things, it wouldn't have made sense for us financially to get married within just a couple years of dating. Plus, so many people tell you not to get married at age 19 or 20, so wanting to "make sure" we're comitted to each other before actually getting married, was important to us too. I'm sure if we had met each other when we were a little older, it wouldn't have "taken so long" lol.

It will be 7 years in October (I'll be 27). We started dating my sophomore year of college and met freshman year.
I think that's an interesting observation about lenght of time together vs. age. I think there is a stigma about young people (20 and under) getting married, espcially when they haven't been dating long. At the same time, it's much more socially acceptable for "older" (28 and older) to get married after a shorter time period.
People can be judgemental on the topic, and I admit I am too sometimes, but I don't think it's the best tool to predict marital success. A couple my FI and I went to school with started dating a couple years after us, got married right after college, and are now divorced.
I think the most important thing is if you are able to grow and change together. During the period after high school and the period after college,(and I'm sure other phases I haven't reached yet!) your life changes pretty siginificantly. I thnk that couple that divorced were good with the college versions of each other, but wanted different things as the "adult" versions of themselves. As long as your relationship can adapt and you support and care about each other, you're pretty much set regardless of age or length of time together!
Phew! Sorry about the long post, but I think it was an interesting point.

I would agree with PP. We were engaged in 18 months - but are 28 and 30. I had to go through many losers to find the one
