In Response to Re: flameable confessions? : Sesh- last week a local station decided to play two NB songs at the same time... to show how they tend to use similar sounds, hooks, timing etc. It was pretty hilarious..

Oh, I know they all sound the same. I love them anyway. The guy's voice is sexy.

I don't think I've noticed a one-upping of who was more laid back. I think people have been pretty honest in the past about their bridezilla moments.

  • I can see your point DJ. Especially when people come in and say they are hurt that none of their bridesmaids want to come to their bach party or have a shower for them, and everyone jumps on them and says "if people don't offer, you don't get one, NO BIG DEAL! get over yourself!!"

I mean, yeah, in the scheme of things its not a big deal, but it's OK to be hurt by it, and/or want to experience your own bridal shower.

  • Also, I wrote "they all taste the same" the first time and caught it at last minute. Ha, I'm writing a gourmet popcorn site and it was on my mind. I should have just left it.
  • I like that we have more money than anyone else in my family. No, I love that we have it. I feel like we earned it instead of sitting around and whining that we did not "get any brakes".

Weird thing is, I do not feel that way about anyone outside my family. I figure the world is full of waitresses and car salesmen who probably, on balance have contributed more to the good of others than I ever will. If I told you a horrid joke I know about lawyers, TK would ban me :)

I think the sometimes "poor pity us, we deserve better" attitude some of my relatives have (and none of them are currently doing all that poorly, even in this economy!) just rubs me the wrong way. I am probably still being arrogant and bitchy though.
  • This is more of an "I don't get it" but one of the party lines on TK is that if you pick out shoes for the BMs to wear, then you need to pay for them.  With that reasoning, if you pick out a dress for the BMs to wear... shouldn't you pay for it?

I never knew what my BMs wore on their feet but I've had brides dictate shoes for me before.  They were never expensive so I guess that's why I didn't really give a rip that I paid for them.

I found my random long chin hair lastnight, the little blonde one. I saw it glinting and called adam into the room to see it. I find this hair so fascinating.
Sometimes I'm ashamed of what I do. I love teaching but especially since I don't have a full time job right now I'm getting down on myself. It's just frustrating when I'm out with FI and we're talking to someone new and they'll say ''so are you an engineer too?''. And then when I tell them that I'm a substitute teacher you can just see the judgement in their face. I'm a very intelligent person and I'm positive if I wanted to be a doctor or a lawyer or something like that I could have been successful. But I love kids teaching so here I am. Just frustrating.
    Posted by acaponi87
I know how you feel with this. When I meet people through FI, they' always ask, "Are you in law school too?" And I'd have to say, "No, I'm a nanny." And then I feel like a failure because I don't even have my bachelor's degree yet and I'm 26. FTR though, being a teacher is awesome and I'm surprised people judge you on that.

  • I mean think about it.  The BMs  pay for the dress and the GMs pay for the tux rental.  If you pay for the BMs shoes should you also pay for the GMs shoes?

I dunno.  It just makes me wonder.

  • The way I think about it, bridesmaids have always been expected to have the same dress (or color or style or whatever) and I guess it's kinda a newer idea to have the same shoes. I don't know. I find it annoying if I have to buy a specific pair of shoes for a wedding I'm in. Being in a wedding is already expensive so adding shoes to that gets on my nerves.
Yesterday it was taken a step further.  Before people had always said that as long as you just give them a color, you don't need to pay. Yesterday, several posters said if it were a color other than nude or black, you should offer to pay. I think that's going too far. The nice thing about just giving a color is in addition to finding the style they want, they can also find the price range they want.

Yeah, that was new to me... I was told by at least one person in that thread that since I'm requiring silver shoes, I should pay for them because silver isn't something everyone already has.
In Response to Re: flameable confessions? : It's one of those things that surprises me because, while I've loved it when brides have let me pick out my own shoes, I've also been told to buy horrible shoes and expected to pay for it. I do wonder if it's regional - around here, it's pretty standard that the BMs pay for dress, shoes, and in a lot of cases hair.  My bridal party was pleasantly surprised when everything except the dress was optional.
    Posted by djhar
I think it's regional.  When I've been a bridesmaid all I expected to have dictated to me to purchase was my dress.  I've never been told that I had to buy specific shoes, or have my nails/hair done.

When my cousin was in a wedding last fall in another area her dress, shoes, hair, spray tan, nails and makeup were all required by the bride.
