[QUOTE]Dang, raes!  What do you do?  We got paid to drink once at work.  There was a mandatory social to celebrate a company achievement.  It was at 4pm and in the office. Now if we have socials at the office, it's "donated time".

I run the visitor center at the local chamber of commerce. A huge chunk of our membership is made up of wineries, so we have to drink their wines and not be rude lol

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Nighttime ladies! : Confession:  I didn't drink until I was 21. But I think I've been making up for it ever since.  I drank long islands when I first turned 21.  Those things can eff you up!

<div>Same here. That was the first legal drink I had. I'd tried alcohol before, and my family always had wine on holidays, but I didn't really like anything I tried. Once I could actually order stuff at a bar, my cousin said I should try a Long Island because it's sort of sweet. I've been trying new drinks ever since. ;)</div><div>
</div><div>I don't like gin, so I've never had a martini. I feel so lame. I'm really into the Rat Pack and atomic age, so I feel like I should be sipping on a martini at every party.</div>
  • I was just a goody-goody throughout high school and the beginning of undergrad.  My friends and I had so much fun without alcohol (drama, dance, band geeks).  Also, I had a family member who worked at the police department.  She put the fear of God in me about being caught at a party where underage drinking was present.  In Indiana you can still be arrested even if you're sober.

We were at a frat party that got busted. We were 20 and it was during a big party week.  We were all sober, but we had to breathe through a breathalizer to get that 0.0.  We weren't in any trouble, but it was still pretty nerve-wracking.

I could get behind that!  Actually, it's probably best that I don't drink on the job.  I'm not very good at only drinking a glass or two.
  • Chrissy, I don't think that I've had a martini before.  Some friends of mine love them.  Maybe we'll try some when we all go to Vegas next month.
  • Oooh, I love me some gin.

I would love to be able to drink on the job, but I work for an insurance company call center, so it's probably not the best idea. ;)

Maybe I'll try a Cosmo one of these days. It's served in a martini glass, so it's sort of martini-ish-but-not-really.  /sad trombone
  • We were actually on our way out of the party when it got busted.  :(  Luckily a bunch of dorky, sober engineering women can charm the police.  We were joking with him about the standard deviation of error of the breathalizer.

[QUOTE]I started drinking kinda early - high school area.  By college, I was in bars in Mexico 2 or 3 times a week, until I hit 21.  Then I was drunk in American bars. I used to really like to drink.

In Canada, you can drink when you're 19, so we used to cross the border all the time. I always felt SO WEIRD ordering a drink, like the cops were going to come over from Detroit and arrest me or something. :-P I got over it eventually, but it still felt really weird.
  • I had my first drink when I was 21, only with the numbers in reverse order.

I sound like a total alcoholic right now, but I swear I'm not!

  • Dang, raes!

We just didn't have alcohol in the house growing up.  My stepmom would sometimes have some red wine, and she'd offer us a sip.  But I thought it smelled gross.
  • I don't think that makes you sound like an alcoholic, raes, I think it sounds like you had a very different tweendom than I did.

I didn't leave the basement much...

Right behind you! It's almost 1 here, so I really need to get my butt to bed. Good night everyone!

Yeah, Chrissy.  I should probably get on that whole bed thing.  I'm getting sucked into Bravo.  And it's quarter to 1.  Have a good one!

Raes, you're not an alcoholic (they go to meetings).  Like I said, my friends and I were just busy being silly sans social lubrication.

ETA: I'll be heading to bedfordshire, too.  G'night!

[QUOTE]I should go to sleep.  Night ladies. Also, I hope I'm not the only one that thinks it is weird that the girl on the West Coast goes to bed first....

Ha. I work West Coast hours (10:30A-7:00P Central) so I was thinking of going to bed soon myself. But there are so many distractions...

  • Thanks, Dot!

I should probably go to bed too. It's almost 1:00 here. Bleh.
