Well, it's in the middle-of-nowhere Indiana, about an hour outside of Louisville, KY. Most people outside of that immediate area don't know about it...I live in St. Louis now, but grew up in IL, and it was somewhere we went every summer. It's pretty awesome.
I think Olive Garden sucks. I side eye people who consider it "a nice restaurant." No, it's not. Its an overglorified chain with bland low quality food and mediocre wine. Expand your food horizons, ffs.

I agree, but add in "pretty much every chain restaurant."
In Response to Re: Unpopular opinions : Should kids not be out on a Sunday at 2pm? It was most likely the church crowd. Which is often a family thing. Personally, I expect that when I go to OG.
    Posted by louisvillebride21
They were not dressed in church clothes, and I don't know anyone who feeds their kids lunch that late.

Or who lets their kid sit at a bar. I thought that was actually illegal.
We go to Olive Garden twice a year or so. H likes the neverending pasta bowl event. We enjoy it. It's not the best italian by any means, but it's good you get a lot of bang for your buck. I always leave with enough left overs for 2 or 3 meals afterwards. We made a promise to never be food snobs and too good for places like applebees, OG, Denny's etc. I know too many people like that and I wonder what they would do on a roadtrip through some one horse town.
    Posted by mandysmear
See, like PPs said, there's a lot that's in the same price range as those places, but is either local (so supporting the local economy) and better/more authentic. However, that's exactly why we went to Olive Garden - we were in an unfamiliar city and our focus was on eating lunch more so than expanding our culinary horizons. Often I pick "mediocre, but known" over completely unknown, you know?

See WIC is different. WIC is (IMO) the best goverment aid program. It's almost impossible to abuse, and really helps those who need it. It provides families with basic foods that are expensive and essential nutrients young kids need.
My Sis used it, and I want to kiss the person that came up with the idea.

  • WE have high chairs in SOME of the bars, but only if they serve food. It's a weird rule, and I don't totally understand it, admittedly, but it's something like...as long as food is served, kids can be in the bar, but they have to be out by a designated time of the night and/or when food is no longer served.

Orrrr something like that. Unless the bar is closed off TOTALLY from the restaurant, then they can't be in there.

GAH I DONT KNOW THE RULE.

  • but wrkn, you're missing the point. if the mom would just work at mcdonald's, she wouldn't need WIC. or anything. I bet her kids would never get sick. I bet she'd find the fountain of youth. I bet her family would win the lotto, but donate all the winnings to the big businesses who really need it because the mom works for mcdonalds and now money doesn't matter.
In Response to Re: Unpopular opinions : There's a bar here where I live that had a great solution to this problem when we went smoke free. The owner dubbed the bar the separate smoking area and non-smokers could stay outside, in the "smoke free" area. I'm not sure how long it worked, but I thought it was hilarious. And I'm a non-smoker.
    Posted by waltzingmatilda13
CA banned smoking on bars and restaurants in 1997. And there's this TINY tiki bar in Silverlake where you can smoke. It's the size of a small trailer. They get away with it because it's owner-operated - so technically, they don't have any employees.
