Do you wear your ring around the clock?

Re: Do you wear your ring around the clock?

  • Totally! I worked at a Bakery and Cafe so cooking, serving, cleaning, I couldn't bear to take it off, really helps not to get hit on in that line of work too.
However, I was afraid to lose the diamond so I get it cleaned and checked every month. Its free and it helps with any bacteria that could build up under it and cause chaffing. :)
My fiance` thinks its cute. I can't wait to have the second part that not only says I'm engaged, but also married!
  • Haha, I agree.
  • I've only taken mine off once in the ten months since we've been engaged.  That was when my fiance and I were trying on wedding rings and he insisted that I let them clean my engagement ring while we were there.

I don't wear a lot of jewelry, and what I do, I wear every day.  A nose ring, a sterling silver brontosaurus pendant that my fiance gave me, and my ring.  My ring is the most significant thing I have ever received (until my wedding ring) and I can't imagine taking it off throughout the day.

  • I usually have my ring on except for when i'm getting ready/showering and sleeping. the first month or two that i had the ring it was almost a size too small so i couldn't sleep with it on without it hurting by morning so i started taking it off to sleep and still do even now that it's the right size. that being said, my fiance is out of town at a conference this weekend and i missed him and felt lonely so i slept with it on and felt much better ;)

  • I wear mine almost all the time. When I first got it I took it off whenever water or cooking was involved. After time I would forget to take it off and realized I didn't have to take it off all the time. I take it in to get cleaned and everything every six months so that's the only time it gets taken off now.
  • i take it off for: sleeping, cooking, baking, showering, washing my hands, putting on lotion, DIY projects around the house, stuff like that. i do wear it around the house when i'm just watching TV or playing on the computer, even though i may never leave the house, cuz i just really love it, hehe!
  • OMG!! Yesterday I took my ring off in the restroom @ work because it kept snagging on my stockings! I sat it down and then my boss starts calling me yelling that we were busy and I needed to hurry up! So I take off, wash my hands and dart out the bathroom!  20 minutes later i'm RUNNING down the concourse(I work in an airport) trying to get back to my ring. IT. WAS. GONE!  I had a FIT! I was on the floor in tears and could NOT get it together for the life of me!  I was just picturing some uncouth heifer with my ring on her finger sitting on her plane waiting for it to take off! My fiance thought that something was on fire because I called him to hyperventilate in the phone for the first 2 minutes until my coworker took the phone and explained what happened.  He didn't understand why I was so upset!! 2 HOURS later there is a page over the intercom for the "crying lady who lost an item" to come to the information desk.  An airline employee found it and waited until her break to turn it in!! Now it NEVER comes off!!!!!!
  • I take all of my jewelry off at night before I go to sleep. I slept with my ring on the first few nights that i had it. My finger ended up swelling up because I sleep with my hand under my head. I could not get my ring off because of the swelling. When I did finally get it off I put it on my other hand for an hour to let the swelling go down more. I've never had any problems with swelling or it being hard to get my ring off since I stopped sleeping with it. I put my ring back on every morning after my shower. I also remove it when I wash my hand and put it back on as soon as I dry them. I also remove when I am putting on lotion or cooking something that i have to put my hand in food. Pretty much I take my ring off when I am doing stuff that will cause stuff to build up in my ring. I worked in Jewellery sales for awhile and I would have customer bring in there jewelry that they never took off to be cleaned. They would be covered in gunk and build up. It was always really gross. I would never want my ring to look like that.

  • I probably only have mine on half the time - I love my ring, but I"m also a klutz.  I remove it while eating greasy foods, showering, sleeping, exercising, etc. and yet I still managed to break a prong... I think while babysitting.  My ring is pretty dainty so I just need to be even more careful with it.  I think besides chemicals like cleaners or activities that are physically "abusing" to your hands though, you just have to consider how "like new" and "shiny" you want to keep the ring and adjust when you're wearing it accordingly.
  • Lotion, or washing just my hands, because I don't like stuff getting stuck under it. Other than that, it's always on.

    Big, big like the moon...
  • I take my ring off everytime I shower and let it sit in the jewelry cleaner jar, it keeps it nice and sparkly, which is needed because I dont take it off at any other time.  I have a very simple tiffany style engagment ring setting, my wedding band is going to be much more intricate... so perhaps I'll take it off more often then (more places to get gunk and food stuck in) but for now it always stays on.  I feel NAKED without it on...

  • I don't  wear mine to bed because I hear it put a lot of wear and tear on it. I enjoy wearing it everyday but I have already lost my citrin amd blue topaz out of it. My man says to wear it and we will replace them as our love grows strong.
  • My ring is an antique (a family heirloom), and I wear it all the time. I take it off when I'm cleaning, showering, or running, if I'm home already and can put in in my jewelry box. Otherwise, I generally leave it on if I'm already out and go to the gym, or I'm doing research, though it's annoying under gloves!

I never worked for a jeweler, so I've never seen the damage that can be done by wearing rings regularly. But this ring was worn for almost 60 years (all the time, even gardening!) before my fiance gave it to me, and people always comment on how beautiful and "chic" it is! In fact, months before my fi proposed, my sister (and best friendd) asked me what I thought about rings, clearly because he asked for her advice. I really had no preference...I just wanted something classy and not too gaudy, and she asked me how I'd feel about getting a family heirloom instead of something he bought. I actually hoped he'd choose the family heirloom, since we're both in expensive graduate programs. When he proposed, I was shocked...I thought he'd spent way too much money on my beautiful ring, since it looks brand new!

So I'm not sure how much damage you can really do to fine jewelry by wearing it most of the time, aside from exposing it to chemicals. My ring is truly vintage, but you'd never guess that someone's grandmother wore it for most of her lifetime :-)
  • I keep mine on all the time except for the same messy times that everyone else is mentioning. (cleaning, washing dishes, showering, doing my hair, cooking, and sleeping)

For the most part if there is a chance it will get messed up or dirty I take it off. But other than that it's on my finger : )
  • I take mine off when I shower, excercise, cook or clean. My ring is also quite large on me.
  • I take mine off when I shower, wash my hands,do messy cooking, cleaning with harsh chemicals, at work because the gloves leave a film on it and when I'm sleeping but otherwise it's on my finger.
  • I take it off to shower, cook messily, run, and cut the grass.  It is always in one of two places: my ring box on the bathroom counter or the ceramic jar in the kitchen - that's what the jar is there for!
  • I lied - I take it off for swimming and scuba diving too.  Or any time I'm at the cabin - I bring my jewelry box with me for travel.

My uncle lost his ring in the lake once (luckily off the dock not the boat, so we found it), and it does not fit under scuba gloves.
  • I only wear mine when I leave the house.

  • Around the clock... but beginning to think I should take it off for a few activities...starting to see where it gets banged around... but that's what "insurance" from the jewler is for....Cool

when mine comes in & all [we're picking it together] & i will wear it most of the time. not showering or as pp's have said doing or working with messy/dirty things. i'm also an artitst so if i'm painting or using clay or something i'll of course take it off so it doesn't get on it or in the little crevices.

but in the meantime we are getting tattoos on our ring fingers so it won't really be a big deal when i take it off anyway =]
  • omg mochadiabla i would be so upset! i would want it sewn to my finger after that..lol

i would be extremely relieved it was found [i mean what are the chances?!] but also be pissed they waited to turn it in!! glad it was returned to you!

[QUOTE]I wear mine all the time except when I do dishes or shower.  I even sleep in it.  Last night I took it off to shower and forgot to put it back on when I got in bed.  My FI grabbed my hand and got a little upset that it wasnt on my finger.  :)   He wants me to wear it all the time, he's such a girl, LOL.

</div><div>LOL-- my FI does the same thing!</div><div>
</div><div>I ditto this except I also don't wear it if I'm cooking with messy foods (meat, baking, etc.)

  • I take mine off for sleeping, cooking, showering, doing laundry, doing dishes, playing sports, or anything like that. When I do take it off, I always put it in the same place, so I won't ever lose it. My diamond was my grandmother's , and so even though it is insured, and could be replaced, it wouldn't be the same diamond. The sentimental value would be gone, which would break my heart. When I get my wedding band, which will be his grandmother's, I will take that off for the things listed above too because it has diamonds all the way around it, and I wouldn't want them to get hurt either.
  • I have my grandmother's ring - it was so dirty and worn when i inherited it because she never took it off.  Then when my fiance gave it to me it had been cleaned and refurbished look brand new! I never take it off, because it can always be cleaned again. Plus I know myself - I'm more likely to lose an heirloom than worry about some dirt!

That being said, my aunt cautioned me against having it on while i use a hair dryer because the heat can loosen the prongs and cause you to lose a diamond (as is what happened to her).
  • Always except the ten minutes it takes to get it cleaned every now and again :)
  • I'm a personal Trainer so I'm afraid my ring will become damaged if I'm wearing it while also lifitng weights. Sometimes I take it off if I'm, teachind an aerobics class or doing my own cardio workout- really only because it still feels weird being on my finger, and my fingers swell when my body temp. rises.

Other than that I take it off when applying body lotion, hair gel, face wash, doing the dishes, cleaning the house with all the cleaning detergents or when I'm riding my horses. I try to use my best judgement.

  • For the 1st month I took it off when I showered, did the dishes, cleaned, touched meat. But, my grams said I was crazy and she never takes hers off. So, now mine only comes off when I am using harsh cleaning chemicals or have my hands in raw meat preparing dinner. I "spruce" it up after the shower with a cotton swab gently wiping away the little bit of soap residue.

  • Hi Ladies,

I only take mine off when I take a shower, thats about it.  I dont have the heart to take it off any other time.

    Kiss
  • Yes, when sleeping everynight - I sleep with my hands near my face and don't want to scratch myself or my future husband.  I also taken it off when exercising as my hands swell.  If I'm cleaning then I'll take it off.
