Re: Morning!

  • We didn't do a big honeymoon after the wedding either.  We did go to St. Augustine for a few days after the wedding but H had to be back for work soon after.  Since I got a mandatory week off in December we went on a cruise then and called it our honeymoon.

I've heard the same thing, Shay, but I'm flipping through some exerpts and wondering how on earth I'm supposed to keep from laughing when it's all stuff like "and then he touched me....down there..."

[QUOTE]Morning!  We had a hail storm last night and that is when the dog decide he had to go out.  He changed his tune pretty quick once H opened the door. It was hilarious.  He did hte potty dance until the storm stopped. WWSBD?  Our friends got married 6 weeks ago. They had a DW and we couldn't go. I sent a card/check to their house the week before the wedding. The check hasn't been cashed yet. Do you think it's OK if I ask if they even received it or should a wait a little longer?  I'm having dinner with the wife tomorrow night.

    Good morning!

Can I confess that I'm sad that we never took a honeymoon?  We were living in DC and the wedding was in IN.  We got to IN a full week before the wedding to finish up last minute crap that we couldn't do from long distance, so neither of us had enough vacation time  left for a honeymoon after.  We kept saying we'd do one next year (2011), but then we decided to move/H started a new job/I was looking for a job/we were saving for a house, so it never happened.  We went to Vegas for 4 days in Feb 2011, but technically that was for H's work and he was at a conference most of the time, so I don't really count that.

  • I'd bring it up, Duds.  Seven weeks is long time to hold onto a check IMO.

  • I have next to nothing to do at work today. The one person who may have had a new project for me is working from home today. At least my coworker is out sick so I can play music and knot without shame. Maybe I'll try to get my desk organized.

I'm only planning on taking Thurs/Fri off before the wedding. I'm pretty sure I'll be useless the days before but I may try to schedule patients at least one or two of those days so I am distracted and have something to focus on.

  • Hmm, jcb. Okay, I can kind of see where you're going with that. Maybe I'll download the e-book and see if it's worth the read. I keep hearing that I need to read all three to really get it, so we'll see. I just feel left out since everyone at work is talking about this book and I'm all confused. :)

Duds, I would bring it up.  I get that people are busy after their wedding, but 6 weeks is more than enough time to cash a check. I hate when people hold onto checks for that long.

  • LP - don't feel bad, we didn't take a honeymoon either and it bums me out. Especially because we live so close to the Bahamas/Jamaica/BVI, etc, so flights would be super cheap. But, with H's deployment schedule, we just never got the opportunity. At this point, any luxury vacation like that will just be a vacation, not a honeymoon, since we're coming up on our 1-year anniversary soon.

    Good morning, ladies.

You're both going to rock that testing, Nebb and Mehg.

50 Shades is either reviewed as 'ZOMG amazing!!!!' or 'meh, poorly written porn'.  I haven't decided whether or not to drop the $10 on the Kindle version.  Probably not.

<div>I'm hopefully taking Th/Fri off too.  I'm getting worried because half of our lab is transferring to a new lab and I'm now really worried that all of my vacation time wont transfer over.  I need at least 9 days for my cruise right after the wedding!</div>
  • Good luck to you too, Mehg!

We never took a honeymoon. The plan was to go somewhere on our one year anniversary... then we bought the house and had no money. Then the plan was to go on our 2nd anniversary.. and we'll have a two month old. Probably not happening then either ;)

Eventually we'll get away for a week. ha

Mehg, I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels a little sad about it.  I know that a honeymoon isn't an entitlement, and lots of people don't take one.  But like you said I think I'm more sad that the "honeymoon" ship has sailed, so whatever vacation we eventually take will just be a vacation.  It's silly and petty maybe, but I can't help it.

DJ, a lot of people thought we were overdoing it by taking off 1 week before the wedding to finish stuff up (though we actually did end up needing every bit of it.  I'm SO glad we didn't try to do everything in 3 days like we originally had thought of doing).  But 3 weeks before?? Yeah, that sounds like severe lack of planning ahead on their part.  And 2 months after?? Damn, wish I had that kind of vacation time.

We didn't take a honeymoon either, the plan is to do something big for our 5 year anniversary next summer. We are tentatively planning to backpack through england and just stay at little bbs. Also, holy crap this place is packed with people we are in this big lecture hall the university and the seats are so damn small! I got in my seat only after knocking over pencils at one desktop, then sitting on another desks paper and folding it. Apparently I'm too fat for university lol

lbarr, if your vacation time doesn't transfer but you already had the cruise booked/paid for, hopefully they will understand and let you take it off unpaid as a worst case scenario?

  • 3 weeks before? I don't need it, but that would have been awesome, and I probably would have worked out a lot more, slept a lot more, and had less stress pimples!

</div><div>That would be nice.  I need to get in touch with HR.  We are moving from the medical school to the medical center (where I've heard benefits aren't that amazing).  Heck, if I'm going to lose it all I might just take my 3 weeks now (we are moving in June).  I'd hate to have it be unpaid, but my boss is awesome and I know she'd at least let me go regardless.

  • H and I had a pretty cheap HM in the Keys. We want to save up and take a bigger vacation in the future, way down the line, maybe to HI or somewhere similiar (there must be a beach). Maybe the Virgin Islands.

We were talking last night about where we want to live in the future, and came up with pretty much nothing. We decided we'll just buy property all over the place that he can raise plants at, and we'll just go between those homes whenever we feel like it.

Clearly, we're planning on being rich and not having real jobs in the future.
  • Jenna! Yayfor this weekend! I'm glad the weather is going to finally cooperate.  Last saturday was disgusting, so thankfully this saturday will be great!

Steph, your ticker makes me feel so awkward that I just ate a banana. I still can't believe you're as far along as you are :)

Speaking of? Any baby news from Raynes yet?

I woke up this morning and said (out loud even) to myself "HOLY CRAP WE'RE GETTING MARRIED NEXT MONTH!!"  Happy dance :)
  • I do not miss the lecture halls at college. Nope, not at all.
  • ha, don't worry about it chels. I've been tending to crave whatever week it is. That's awkward. No baby news from Raynes yet!

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Morning! : I think it was more wanting to just not work. I think she only worked part-time anyway, so I don't think it was lack of planning.  Things were so hectic our last week that I was slightly jealous. (Finishing last minute things, packing, <strong>if anyone remembers the drama of the 3 airport trips in one day due to selfishness, etc.</strong>)

    <div>I'm intrigued by this. </div><div>
</div><div>I also get irrationally irritated when people say they don't want to go to work.  I am looking forward to working again SO much after being unemployed for 10 months now. But I know it's irrational because when I was working, I definitely complained that I didn't want to go. And I'm sure once I finally start my job and get into the swing of things, I'll complain again. The grass is always greener and all that jazz. </div>

I hate working, I always have. I'd much rather be a SAHW and all sorts. I have plans to make this happen in the next 5 years, believe me.

OT, but this is how I felt about Eat, Pray, Love.  Haven't ever not finished a book before, but I still don't know how it ends.  Meh.  I've got to be in the mood to be Oprah'ed.

Duds I'd ask her if they're all caught up with stuff since getting back.  She may have seen but just not have opened the mail yet.

One of many of the department heads I was bothering for info I was gathering for a project finally sends it to me, past deadline, ccs my boss, no he doesn't cc my boss, he replies my boss and ccs me (even though the original email was from me) then asks me if I've followed up with the other department heads for their stuff.   a.  why wouldn't I <em>already</em> be doing the task that requires me to contact you?   b.  I have a boss, thanks.  c.   No muthafu*ka the other department heads followed up with me, like my boss asked them to.   D*ck
  • I can't see myself being a SAHW, at least not for awhile or until I have kids.  Even then, I'd probably do something similar to Edie and stay home while they are really young and then as they go off to school and such gradually go back.  I know in reality they will be in daycare and I will be working my butt off right from the get-go to pay for everything involving kids :).
  • Edie, I just saw this on pinterest and thought of you. I'd repin it but idk where I'd put it haha.

  • I never ever ever wanted to be a SAHM/W.  But now, I can see the appeal. Ideally, I'd like to work part-time. One of my coworkers is like 70% time and works extended days on MWF. I would love that, but I doubt they'd approve me for it. boo.
