  • Ok, Christy, email or FB message me when it's closer!  We'll figure something out :)

And, since I'm apparently full of randoms today:  Does anyone have any tips for splitting/peeling nails?  I thought it was because I was polishing them too often, so I stopped two months ago.  They're still splitting.  I moisturize them nightly, I've tried Biotin, I've tried prenatals, I've tried paint on treatments and oils.  Nothing helps.  They're terrible.  They're bad enough that if I paint them, they still split and peel off and just take the polish with them.

EXCELLENT IDEA!  But then how would I type on the internets?

  • Ooh.  Try soaking them in olive oil.  I did that when I was younger and it helped a lot.

And have you had your thyroid checked lately?
  • Wow... I didn't even see that thread.  She was... sweet?
  • Your thyroid impacts your nails!?

  • It can.  So can vitamin or mineral deficiencies, but if the prenatals didn't do a thing, that probably wasn't it.

J&K - good luck.  Have you tried OPI's Nail Envy?  It worked okay.  I have the same problem with my nails splitting.  Prenatals have made it better, but I have two that are still my "problem nails".

ETA - I find my nails get longest and seem strongest when I switch up my polish brands every time I redo them.  I have no idea why this might work.  And use nail polish remover, don't pick the polish off or you take off layers of nail with it if you pick at them.

Huh, that's a good idea.  I'll try that, thanks!

I had my TSH checked two months ago.  2.6, doesn't get much more normal than that!  I have a physical in May though, and I'm asking for my T3, T4, free T3 and free T4 to be checked too.  I need my iron levels checked as well.  Yay for family histories!

  • Loops, I did try nail envy.  Nothin' doin'.

Mica, the prenatals helped the peeling, but not the splitting, if that makes any sense.  Like, they still split and you could see the split line where it would normally peel, they just didn't peel.

Thank you for this.   It was in my head.  For once I filtered it, but I'm glad someone didn't.

  • JK, my nails are terrible. They've always been weak and grow in funny ways (like bending under on one corner). I feel your pain.
  • Mine bend in at the ends too.  I hate that the most.  Nothing makes them not do that.  Even when they were strong and not splitty/peely/breaking, they still always bent in when they'd get past my fingertips.  I've always kept them short because of that (which is ok becaues I don't like long nails either, but still).

  • JK I don't have any suggestions other than my observation that my nails grow faster and strong when I'm swimming regularly.
    image
  • Really?  The chlorine doesn't destroy them?  My nails were always at their worst in high school when I spent 15-20 hours a week in the pool.  That's pretty amazing.

I know, it's weird, but for real, they grew like crazy and were super strong. Didn't make sense to me either. I have normally long, thick nails to begin with though.

  • Eagles I drum my my fingers all the time. Maybe that's my secret. I need you in my life as well.
    image
  • Yeah, I keep my nails short also. It annoys me to have them long. When I went for a manicure before the wedding the lady was weirded out by the shape of my nails. ha.

I have to go do some work now. :( Boo. Hej då.

If someone 'likes' your profile, it doesn't bring up your facebook. It shows on the FB page of whoever pressed the like button. If that persons friends see it, and click, all it does is bring up your TK/TN/TB profile, not YOUR facebook.

I'm pretty sure that TK and FB could never 'link' profiles, since on FB you have to authorize any connection to another site (for example: goodreads, pinterest).
    image
  • I've heard the drumming your fingers thing before too.  No idea if it works or not.
  • Random musing.

With Pinterest getting to be so widely used, I am way less impressed by people than I used to be. Like...they make stuff and do stuff or whatever that they saw on Pinterest? And I'm like...yeah. I saw that on Pinterest, too. You're not creative.

    Ugh, I'm an asshole.

  • I have almost zero desire to do pretty much any crafty DIY project I see on Pinterest.  I like it for recipes and room decor ideas (so I can buy stuff, not make it) and outfits (again to buy, not make).
  • I just can't get into to Pinterest.  I spend enough time online as it is.  I don't need something else to become attached to.
