Lets have a good day.

Re: Lets have a good day.

  • I mean, at least a blizzard - it might cause accidents if you're out driving, and the occasional roof collapse - but it's not the wide-scale destruction of hurricanes or tornadoes.
Adamar -- That's so wierd. Why would your coworker put fertilizer in your plant? I guess she thought you were neglecting it?Posted by cfaszews25
It's not a very high maintenance plant, so I don't know why she felt the need to do that.  She's really weird, though.  She knows everything about everything, and has a story about everything.  I try to avoid interacting with her most of the time, but she sits right in front of me :/
MK, I had no idea you were so close to that school! H and I couldn't believe our eyes when we saw it on the news because we both have been there and couldn't believe it got destroyed like that. I'm glad you're both okay and missed it.
    Posted by waltzingmatilda13
Yeah we were driving by and saw the cop cars and utility vehicles and at first I just thought oh they're fixing the power lines, but then noticed there were a bunch of cars lined up on the side of the road. I looked closer and saw the tree that was in front of the school had been destroyed, and thought wow they must have had a lot of wind last night. But as I looked more and my brain was comprehending what I was seeing you could see the building, and the busses, ad the field next to the school was just littered with debris.

I looked across the street and saw the woods across the school were destroyed as well. That's when it hit me that a tornado must have come through. It took all of 3 or 4 seconds for me to comprehend, but it felt like forever given the amount of destruction to the school.

  • Wow. 4 pgs already. I guess I have some catching up to do.

H is home sick with me today. Even though this cough and congestion is annoying, I still managed to get things done yesterday. I have a feeling that is not happening today with H home. But I am going to try if he leaves me alone.
  • Cincinnati tests their tornado sirens the first Wednesday of every month at 12:00pm. I always wondered what would happen if there actually was a tornado at 12:00pm the first Wednesday of a month. Would people be immune to the sirens because they're used to the testing?

  • I remember in elementary school, we used to have to hide our heads under the coatracks for tornado drills. There were always spiders under there, it was kinda gross.
Rosie- I'm a little outdated on my criminal justice, but if he pleads the whole insanity thing, and they find him Not Guilty by reason of Insanity, he'll be spending his life in a mental hospital, right?  I'm sure the laws vary on that in different areas, I just know that pleading insanity is really not a great way to get off on criminal charges.  I haven't been in the field since I graduated, so you lawyer people will probably have a better explanation.

Not necessarily. If they  evaluate him later, and he's found to be mentally competent, the Supreme Court ruled that it's unconstitutional to keep him because of a prior mental issue. The only reason I know this is because my boss is the one that argued the case at the Supreme Court.

  • And the damn toliet in the bathroom overflowed, so H had to clean it up with towels. Now I have laundry to do that I didn't plan on doing today. And mop the bathroom down. Yuck. I am just glad it didn't ruin anything.
  • We've had 2 tornados go through my town in my lifetime.  I feel like the once was just twisty wind, but they said it was a tornado.  The other one actually did damage.  You could see the path it took through the forest.  But no serious damage.

They scare me though.  My dad used to live in TN and I was always scared when a tornado warning was on because I wasn't used to them.

Anyone from Michigan and remember the good storm a few years back in August?  I was on my way to Richland Park horse trials and came in right behind the storm with my horse trailer.  You could see some crazy damage.  It took out some of the stabling at the show too.

Ours is the 1st of the month at noon. Used to freak me out and now I think I've gotten immune. And if there really WAS a tornado I think we'd all have been paying attention to the weather. Hopefully.

    I think I heard that it's happened a few times...you'd think they'd come up with a solution
  • A building down the street from where I work got completely obliterated by the snow and had to be torn down.  The roof collapsed while people were working in there -- thankfully they realized what was happening and got out before anyone got hurt or killed.

Funny thing though -- until about 10 years the ago the church I work for owned that building.  My boss went around for days saying how thankful he was that one of his predecessors sold it and that he wasn't the one who had to deal with arranging the demolition.

Sometimes I wish mine was still younger...he had a back injury last year that left him half paralyzed for a few months, and now he walks with a little wobble in his back end.  He still plays with the other dogs, but I'm nervous now that it'll happen again.

Aww, poor thing!  We worry about that with her too since it can happen so easily.
  • I don't think we have tornado sirens in FL. At least, not in any areas where I lived. We get them during pretty much any hurricane, and always have warnings during storms. I was never afraid of them until Hurricane Charlie in 2004. 2 tornados went literally right in between my house and my grandarents' next door in the middle of the storm and we all thought we were going to die. The next morning you could see the paths on the ground, and our trees were gone.

Then a few months later 3 tornados ripped apart an apartment complex on Christmas Day just 2 miles down the road. So now, they scare the hell out of me.

It was a total freak thing with him.  The vet couldn't find anything specific that caused it.  It makes me feel like I might end up being a good nurse, though, because I nursed his furry little butt back to health for months!  Shea was useless during the process.

  • Sesh, I think you're right, I've never heard of tornado sirens in Florida either. And I think tornadoes are for sure the most scary part of hurricanes.
