Mine are kinda lame, but when I was 13 I went to Tanzania for 3 months on a mission trip and built a church. We even smuggled back a pair of earrings made from elephant tusks.

When I was 9 I met Fidel Castro. My godfather knows him well. Fidel is actually decent. he gave me a colorbook, crayons, and a cigar. I still have the cigar and will probably never smoke it.

I also got to ride in the Presidential helicopter with Bill an Chelsea Clinton.

Hmm. I have a few. I can't think of any others, I don't realy do much.

I spent 2 weeks in a small village in Ecuador rebuilding a school bathroom and a new greenhouse, then went on hikes through the amazon.

I gave the opening speech for Carl Haaisen at my college's Presidential Lecture in front of some 3,000 people.

I wrote my first book at 15 and published it at 18, second one at 19.

    ETA--you ladies are friggin amazing.

Yeah the pay is pretty maddening, but I got lucky with my working hours - I work 9-5, M-F.  Pretty much unheard of especially in broadcasting.

  • Parasailing in Newport during the Jazz Festival

Visiting the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Rome (well, every bit of my trips to Italy were amazing, but this church is decorated with the bones of the Capuchin monks, google it, it's pretty freaking wild)

Performing all alone on the largest procenium stage in New England (at the time it was the largest, it might not still be)

  • I hiked for two days on a remote part of the Great Wall of China, and slept overnight in a tower.

I rode horseback over the mountains of Sichuan, China to a Buddhist monestary and had lunch with the monks, which they cooked in big pots over a fire.

I went canyoneering in Costa Rica - repelling down waterfalls over 200 feet tall by lowering myself down a rope.

I've snorkeled with dolphins and turtles in Mexico.

  • I ditched the tour of the pyramids in Egypt to be given an "illegal" tour of the back parts by a young Bedouin guy who then brought me and my daughter back into the Bedouin village surrounding the pyramids to his house where we had tea with his father and his mother cooked us dinner.

I went to a polo match in Abu Dhabi, then to an after-party where the Crown Prince was along with a bunch of Egyptian belly dancers.

I went on tour with Depeche Mode for their Chicago, Phoenix and LA shows.

I had a baby in high school but still graduated third in my class and went to University of Michigan while being a full time mom at the same time.

My daughter and I stayed in a cave-like villa in Santorini where we adopted a cat during our trip who would howl outside our door every morning and come inside and sleep with us for hours.  And we would sleep with our door open.

  • My most recent coolest thing...on Monday, FI and I opened 3 college funds for our future children.  It will be at least a year from now until we try to have children, but as of Monday they will have monthly contributions towards their futures.

It makes me happy to think that they have a jump start, and aren't even here yet lol

  • You ladies are amazing! and that is awesome that you all got to experience so much one way or another.

The only thing that I find interesting is when I was in High-school I was able to leg press a weight of 210lbs. and not be able to even do 20-30lbs bench press with my arms. I had no upper strength whatsoever. Now my legs aren't as strong anymore neither.

Other then that I got nothing.

[QUOTE]This is an uber dork one but I presented one of my archaeological reports at an annual BIG conference and afterwards I had a bunch of people come up to say how great of a job I did and how ground breaking the work was. Many were professors I had or people I had worked with but there were a few whose names I remembered but couldn't figure out why...Yeah, they were the ones who wrote the archaeology textbooks and case studies I'd be reading all year! OMG.

  • There are some seriously amazing women here!
  • You ladies have reminded me of some of the cool things I've done - Its made me grateful so...thanks! Here's some of the ones I was thinking of and the ones I've been reminded of:

    1) I went on a trip to Mexico. Before going, my group visited 2 families of legal immigrant workers. In Mexico, we visited their families. The one family lived 3 hours from any town and only got running water once a week. They cooked us an amazing dinner despite never meeting us before, not knowing a lick of English. It was so sweet and so heart wrenching all at the same time.

    2) On that same trip I toured the Corellejo Tequila plant in back woods Mexico.

    3) I've covered an agricultural event at the National Press Club in Washington D.C.

    4) I've signed for the National FFA Chorus at our national convention in front of 50,000 people and the tv audience.

    5) I've eaten jerk chicken at a whole in the wall restaurant/auto mechanic in Kingston Jamaica

    6) I've helped clean the PA state vault - we had to be locked in compartments that looked like jail cells while we worked.

  • This thread makes me feel like a loser.

To be honest, I think the most amazing thing I've done is raise Ben. His 'father' left the picture when I was 3 months pregnant and we were a two man show for the first 3 years of his life. It was hard as hell, but it made me so much stronger. He's such a cool little guy and he makes me very proud to be his mom.

I also went to Greece. That was awesome.

And I went skydiving in college.
  • Cew, I think raising your son is not just cool but also something that deserves a lot of respect (and you've got mine). :)

Besides, I'm waaaay to chicken to go skydiving.

  • i used to live on a tiny indigenous island just south of papua new guinea where i was a community development worker.  i speak a language that only 20,000 people in the world speak.

i went to east timor during the height of the conflict - scary but amazing.

i gave birth to both my children in my home, with no drugs.  by far the most amazing thing i've ever ever ever done.
