!?!?! You don't know Dillards!? Omg. I'm so sad. I love Dillards. Well, Belk is way better than the JCPenneys I've been to around here. Its so hard to explain! At the mall...what are you anchor stores? I guess you could say Belk is like Macys?
Posted by LDYGTR13
I have a love/hate relationship with Macy's. Mainly because I still call it Daytons. ITS DAYTONS DAMMIT.
image
• As a side note, I'm sure lowereastsiiide would die a billion deaths if she saw the stores we were discussing. ;)
image
• I'd compare it to a Dillards. At least, in NC - that's where they started/are based.
It's been hard for me to stop saying Belks. That's what many folks in NC call it, and kind of a "mark" of being from there. Like "the store the Belks started."

There's a shitton of stuff at my college named for them, and at a couple of other colleges. John Belk is a graduate of mine (college) - WAY before my time.

There was a pretty fancy one in downtown Charlotte that sold Kate Spade, Dooney & Burke, Etienne Aigner, Lily Pulitzer, etc all before they became a little more commonplace. They had a little luncheon counter downstairs, and a live piano player. MFJ and Bec might remember this (and they may still do that).
They had a hair salon that was an Aveda place, and the best thing in the world was that you could use your Belk card in the salon for cuts and massages.
Talk about trouble with a capital T.
Don't know what Dillards is, but I do know JC Penney. I can't remember when it was, but at some point I remember someone on here talking about Express as a bargain store for nice clothes. Then I felt all sad because Express is my favorite store but I barely can afford to buy more than one or two thing at a time there.
Posted by musicalsunlight
Bargain store? Wow. I'm poorer than I thought. I only shop their sale racks.

I had never heard of Belks before LDY mentioned it.

I am finally going shopping next week. I'm super excited about it too.
• Missy, that's what our Belks around here (well, not the one at the ghetto mall) are like. I <3 it. I LOVE IT.
• I know we're not really confessing anymore, but I have another one. There's a HUGE soccer game in Buenos AIres on Sunday (Boca vs. River if that means anything to anyone), so I emailed this company about tickets because H would so love to go. They're $150, so no.

I just emailed back saying they're too expensive but asking if they'd like to offer me any kind of discount in exchange for me blogging about it. I am about 99% sure they're going to say no because a) they probably don't need the publicity and b) my blog really doesn't have enough readers to get me free things, and I am kind of embarrassed to even ask for those reasons, but I made myself do it because I figure there's nothing to lose. I really hope this random Argentine man I'll never meet in my life doesn't laugh at me.

We have Peebles here. I think the name is funny.

• I can't fit in Express...are their prices still kinda pricey? Like $60 for jeans and $24.50 for t-shirts and stuff?

I usually only shop when I get the "$50 off of $150" or "$30 off $75" coupons in the mail, unless they are having a really good sale.

• Musical, if you have a Younkers, its a little like that but more upscale.

Krupar, there are Belks in Richmond; I'm sure of it. Check Chesterfield Mall/Town Center.

• Upon further investigation, it was called Belk Lindsey, so it is spelled right. That is all.

Except that, Express is NOT a bargain store. They have some good sales, but their new clothes prices are generally a bit above what I want to spend. Old Navy and Target are bargain stores.

• I know I'm a little late to the party, but I get really annoyed when I see people on motorcycles in flip flops, shorts and no helmet. We get that all the time down here. I just keep thinking, "Enjoy that road rash!"

Also, on the motorcycle issue, we always get people either weaving in or out of traffic or people double teaming you. I know that isn't what I mean (not that kind of double teaming lol), but they actually drive up next to me in my lane on my side trying to get into another lane. The sweetest day is when there was an undercover cop behind me and pulled him over.

Okay, that's technically a rant, but whatever.

I used to get free stuff when I worked at the radio station all the time - it wasn't payola, but it was pretty close lol. Work the angles you can, I say.

Yeah, more or less. I think the jeans are between 60--100 depending on the embellishment/style. Either way, for me jeans have to be between that price range anyway if I want to find ones that come long enough.

Never heard of Younkers either. We have Macys (DAYTONS!!!!!), JC Penney, Herbergers, Bloomingdales, Sears, and Nordstrom as the big dept stores in the area. I loooove Nordstrom. But I can rarely afford to actually purchase clothes from there.

• Emily, it never hurts to ask about that kind of thing. H does photography as a hobby, and he took some great pictures of our hotel in Mexico last time we were there. The manager emailed him to say "Hey, saw your pics online and they're great!" So... H emailed him back to say "I'd love to do some more for you, maybe we can get a discount on a room?"

We're staying free for a week at the end of June :)

It's in Billiegoatiest's thread from this morning. All of LL's posts are gone now, but she was quoted.
• Yeah, not so cool. Jeans, and either boots or tennis shoes in a pinch. J won't wear the dirt bike boots; there isn't enough give in the ankles to control the bike.

Me? I'd prefer to be wrapped in bubble wrap on top of the ballistics jacket and helmet.

There are some people I trust implicitly with my safety - he's one to ride as a passenger with on a motorcycle; and another friend of mine is the only one I'll tandem skydive with. I just want to know they care about my life as much as I do. J's already told me the new ATV is probably not one I want to ride because it runs a lot faster (bad sign right there), but the cheese trail up in WI I could probably handle. Not UT.

• Kiki, my friend who's a photographer (our wedding photog) is on free hotel stay number 2 because of her photos. She has like 3x the blog readers I do though and also obviously has awesome photos which she lets the hotels use/posts on her blog to entice people. Clearly I should have been a photographer! That's awesome you guys are staying for a whole week.

Alright, that was quick and painless. He just responded and did not touch the discount/blog issue and just said no problem with us not being able to afford it and suggested a bar for us to watch the game at (and said he'd buy me a beer if we were there when he got there after the game). That wasn't so bad :)
• I've been on a motorcycle once, and the experience was so terrifying I started to cry within 30 seconds and demanded to get off.

Yeah, to me it's just asking for trouble. Especially when I see that they are the flimiest flip flops in the world. I get that it's hot down here, but have some sense.

• I LOVE motorcycles. My dad used to ride until he almost got smashed between two cars on the Bay Bridge when we were little. H has one but doesn't ride it anymore. It was his only mode of transportation when we started dating. We are really careful, though, and wear full gear.

• Motorcycles scare the crap out of me. My dad crashed one in college, and he now hates them. He passed on the fear and paranoia to me.

I'm afraid to ride my bike without a helmet. Like, even two blocks to the ice cream stand.

Totally random, but I just got an email from the school about an "incident" that occurred near the school. Apparently last night some guy got robbed and beat unconscious by two guys right outside my old apartment building. I am happy every single day that we moved out of there!
• I'm actually amazed at the offers he gets from his photos. It's totally a hobby, and he only recently even got a website. Before, they were just on Flickr. He has one of his photos hanging in the stadium the Broncos play in. That's a pretty cool one :)

The downside is that everybody asks you to take their e pics/baby pics/family pics... boring stuff. He doesn't like doing those.

• I didn't know so many people were scared of motorcycles, although my best friend here has refused a ride on our scooter because she's scared. I have my motorcycle license and enjoy having a scooter (and think we'll probably eventually have a motorcycle).

I love motorcycles. I wouldn't trust myself to drive one (especially in the city), but I loved being a passenger when H had his. He sold it 2 years ago, but plans to get a new one when we're both gainfully employed.
