Not Engaged Yet

Tell me I'm not the only one...

who's looking at dresses without being engaged?  (I feel the need to say that we've been ring shopping twice in the last two weeks and have talked about planning our wedding for next October)

Anyway, I was on the A&A board and someone mentioned HouseofBrides.com so I clicked over and just perused the offerings.  I just fell in love with this dress:

http://www.houseofbrides.com/allure-women-wedding-dress-style-w252-p-350-147-14107.aspx

I don't know how much it is, or where I could find it in a store to try on, but I think it's just gorgeous and wanted to tell someone!

I've come across a few I really like online, I'll admit. My sister is getting married next spring and I'm her MOH, so while she is e-mailing me links to dresses she likes, I am getting tempted and looking at things for myself. Bad, Jewel. *smacks hand*

Not engaged, and not perusing gowns (minus boredom clicks around TK)....but that dress is cute. Especially like the lace up in the back!

You're certainly not the only one, but if you're still of the mind-set that 'if everyone else is doing it, it must be okay', than I'd say it's too early to think about marriage let alone wedding dresses.

That wasn't my mindset at all, actually, but thanks for the tip.  I was just excited and wanted to talk about it with other people who might have been in the same boat.  I spend most of my time on E, where mostly everyone's engaged/married, so I thought this board might be better suited for my post, that's all.

No one is going to stop you from looking. If you get your jollies by looking at dresses for your imaginary wedding, then by all means, look. But the fact that you need to ask if you're the only one that does this means that you know it's a little crazy.

Nope, your not the only one. Plenty of girls who go to  "ring before spring" type colleges will typically look for dresses starting in the winter of their relationships. One of my best friends who just graduated actually bought her wedding dress before being engaged. Yikes O.o that's too big of a risk for me though. I've always liked looking at dresses and getting ideas though... I like shows like on We where they try on dresses.

And what types of colleges are these and where are they?  Because I'm pretty sure if the next words out of your mouth are at all related to women's colleges you will get your hand bitten.

ooooooh no. Basically any religious college has this kind of mentality.

CBU is the biggest one. One of the first things they teach you is "Ring Before Spring"... It's weird.

Yeah, I'd certainly not buy anything or even try anything on until we're engaged and know what kind of wedding we're having and where, but I think it's kind of fun to window shop.

Do "ring before spring" type colleges really still exist?

Here in the south. A &M, Baylor, Rice, LSU etc etc. Ol' Miss. It's insanity.

At A&M they have a "ring dunk", which is where you put your class ring in a pitcher of beer and then chug said pitcher. The goal is to have two rings to dunk.

Yup they do... also, any college with significantly more women then men do that...

It's weird how guys think they can propose on like the 2nd date at these schools O.o ... and a lot of my friends who go to idaho get engaged pretty fast too.

Not condoning getting engaged fast because when you know you know, but I once had a guy friend propose to a girl on first date (they had met on a dating sight on the internet) she shot him down HARD.

I think we should also have a site/sight thread, Desert.

First date? For real? I saw an ep of "Bridezilla" where the bride was 19 and the groom was 20. He proposed on their third or fourth date. And they planned their wedding in three weeks. Insanity.

I know Hetshup, I'm a good many springs behind.

Okay now, stop talking about those schools Maere, because that's not how it happens at all.  People do get married a lot right out of college, that's true.  But you're being a little excessive. I've literally walked through a proposal in the gardens and I've witnessed some in the student center.  But I haven't met anyone who proposed on the second date. Seriously? That might have happened, but that person is just a lunatic.  Don't act like it's how it happens at every school like that.
