Dear Congress...

EFFFFFFF YOU.

No, this could not go into FFF because it's arleady dead, and I don't want to just flame them.  I want to tell them to go eff themselves.  H's pay statement is out for the next check, and it's only half pay.

Can I start a donations jar in my signature?

I'd help you out, but we won't get our tax refund until this is over either...
  • I'll second/third/fourth this.  Please let go of your posturing and allow hardworking Americans get paid to do their jobs.  Compromise is a good thing.  K, thanks.
  • Nuggs, why would your mexico trip be kiboshed?

  • DNB, its actually unconstitutional for members of Congress to suspend their own pay, so they couldn't not pay themselves even if they wanted to. I understand the sentiment, however. My entire household income will be out the window come Monday if they don't figure it out.
  • That's what kills me DNB. THEY [congress] still get paid. People who actually NEED the money to live, not so much.

Our passports are still being "processed".  Which means if the gubmint shuts down, so do the passport processing centers so we could end up not getting our passports in time.

But can't they vote to temporarily lower their pay to, let's say, a dollar until this sh*t gets worked out?

No, the 27th amendment states that any change in compensation can't go into effect until the next Congress. This is obviously to keep them from giving themselves a million raises, but it still prevents them from lowering their pay.

No, we e-filed, but the refund itself won't be processed.
  • Nope we leave the end of May.  Which normally, since we sent them in the middle of March, would be fine.  But you figure a 4-6 week processing time, plus any backlog and down time a shut-down would create...it's completely possible we could not have it in time.  AND we can't even go to a passport processing center at the last minute for a rush one because we had to SEND OUR PASSPORTS IN to have them renewed.

Yup. Me too. We had to file on paper for federal because of some IRA thing we did.

This whole situation is BS. Our government is run by a bunch of whiny little girls who act like they've unjustly had their dolls taken away.
  • Are you sure?? This is what I've found several times...

    http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2011/04/08/government-shutdown-what-to-expect/

INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE: IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman said that if there is a government shutdown, the tax-return due date will remain April 18. Mr. Shulman encouraged taxpayers to e-file returns, because those are processed automatically and refunds would not be delayed. But he said there would be delays in processing paper returns and providing refunds for paper returns.
