I'm still catching up and I don't care if the subject(s) have changed. I fully support banning smoking in public places. I don't want to inhale your smoke when I'm trying to walk down the sidewalk to class. However, I think it's stupid to ban smoking in bars. Seatbelt laws are stupid for adults. If you want to risk your own life, I really don't care. However, I'm fully in support of strict carseat laws and seatbelt laws for children. I also don't giveashit if you want to ride your motorcycle without a helmet. I will judge you for being a complete moron though. Schools have no right to regulate foods from home. They should, however, make it affordable for parents to buy healthy lunches from the school. (Right now, my mom pays about $3/day for each of my brothers to eat hot lunch.)
    Posted by Steph0871
My problem with people riding motorcycles without a helmet is that if that person on a motorcycle is hit by a car and dies due to head injuries they may not have sustained had they been wearing a helmet, someone is going to sue the shiit out of the person driving the car, even if it wasn't their fault.

    And that sucks.

I'd be ok with that too. But I doubt that would ever happen.

Someone in my hometown pulled out in front of a car, at night, drunk, without his light on, no helmet, got hit, sustained major head injuries, sued the driver, and won. That absolutely disgusts me. Even if there is information that I don't have that shows the driver of the car to somehow be at fault, I think that never should have happened.

Let me see if I can find the article. It was several years ago.

  • J&K, I was hit (in my car) by a bicyclist. He was wearing black and didn't stop when his cross walk was red. He took off right after hitting me and I called the cops. It was found as a hit and run on him and I was damn lucky that I was at an intersection with a traffic cam. Ridiculous. I am still pissed about it.

He fell off his bike all dramatic-like even though he was the one speeding around a corner on the wrong side of the designated bike path. I was the one who had to walk 2 miles in bike shoes (not fun) to the nearest bike shop to buy a new wheel so I could get home, because mine looked like a taco. And I had a gash in my leg. I told my mom about it and she asked if I got his insurance info. ::facepalm::

AND WI is one of the few states without a massive deficit this year.

I like what he did, which is why I refuse to get on the Recall Walker bandwagon. I just don't like how he did it. Being a new teacher this year, the new regulations made no difference for me. But he was so brash about it and tried to illegally make it go through. That rubbed me the wrong way. Yeah the Dems were kind of assholes for leaving the state in order to not vote, but what they did was legal. I give people credit for posting their "Support Walker" signs in their yard. People here are so mob-mentality about this guy. A lot of people who signed the recall petitions against him don't even know the reasons behind WHY they are recalling him, they just want to get on that bandwagon. Lame.

As for the bolded, hence why I don't like unions :)

  • I know a politician who sucks, like, really bad (his approval ratings are worse than Obama's) and I've never, ever liked him. But after interviewing him face to face several times, I noticed how pointy his teeth were. Not a legit reason to hate someone, but I always think of all the reasons why I hate him and then, in my mind I say "And? You have pointy teeth. Stupid."

To be fair, the woman who got her lap burned suffered third degree burns and needed skin grafts. There's a documentary about it. The coffee was something like 240 degrees. In no way can a person drink that. Starbucks serves their lattes at 160, 180 if you ask for extra hot. It was actually a legitimate suit, no matter how ridiculous it sounds on the surface.

In my googling I'm finding that the coffee was 180-190 degrees, not 240 degrees. 180 can create third degree burns in less than seven seconds.

I used to think this was a b.s. lawsuit as well until I saw a documentary about it on HBO. I think it was called "Hot Coffee". They showed her injuries and burns due to the spill.

You may be able to google the images, but they are graphic so be warned. It also showed McD's had a history of serving scalding hot coffee and getting complaints. They were aware the coffee they were serving posed a danger.

On the whole though people are too lawsuit happy in this society!
