To me, I don't see a difference in distraction level between handsfree and one hand holding the phone to your head. There may be a diffrence in ability to swerve/maneuver/etc in an unexpected event, but when it comes to talking on the phone, I don't think you're any less distracted by that call by being handsfree.
Lesser of two "evils" then Edie? I get that. Talking to your passengers is probably equal to or more dangerous than a cell phone due to looking at them tons while talking to them. I'm super guilty of talking on the phone while driving but I've only been in one accident and my phone was nowhere in sight or use. Just bad road conditions.
DJ, that's a little silly, signing a bill on Oprah that is.

After their visit, I downloaded an app on my phone that locks it while my car is in motion (it can sense how fast it's going). You can admin override the app if, say, you're a passenger on a bus or something. But, if you're driving while the app is engaged and you get a text or phone call, the caller/texter automatically gets a message saying "The person you are trying to reach is currently driving a vehicle. Yup. They dont pass the eye exam at the registry and they get to keep taking it till they do.
I think eye doctors should report to the registry if their patient cant effing see well enough to drive. I think here they are supposed to, but they never want to get involved.
So maybe rather than it being the Drs job to report, each time you go to get your license renewed, you should have to get a real eye test from an ophthalmologist and bring the results with you?

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll watch it. I also need to watch "Waiting for Superman" too I've been told.
Parents are totally too easy on their kids nowadays. When I was at the doctor, he just told me that his daughter, a teacher, had parents all riled up over having the kids stack their own chair on top of the desk at the end of the day. They were calling it child abuse. All because the custodian has back problems and she wanted to be nice. I'm pretty sure I did that every year of school ever. It was part of the end of the day routine.
I hate the argument that just because some parents abuse their kids or take spanking too far, that means that ALL parents shouldnt be allowed to spank.
Thats like saying just because some people drive drunk, noone should be allowed to drink.

<div>O.o</div><div>
</div><div>My SIL and BIL got into an argument about this recently. Surprisingly (even after being raised in a rougher than spanking house) BIL was on the spanking side. Shocked the heck out of SIL and I, who always thought of both of our H's as against their upbringing. I think he was just reverting back to what he knew and was comfortable with. And then there's the whole argument "I didn't turn out that bad". SIL plans to change his mind though and they don't plan to start for a while.</div>

[QUOTE]Chels- I watched this documentary on either HBO or Showtime called "The Lottery". It was about the charter schools in Harlem. It was fascinating. Im not involved in education, so my view on it is from an outside perspective, but some of the struggles the kids in the public schools were having was really sad and avoidable if the DOE got their act together. You can probably find the doc ondemand.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll watch it. I also need to watch "Waiting for Superman" too I've been told.

[QUOTE]Parents are totally too easy on their kids nowadays.

Thefuck.
That reminds me of that couple who had their daughters taken away from them for a <strong>month</strong> because some employee at the Walmart photo place developed pictures of bathtime and determined it was child porn.
[QUOTE]Texting while driving was a hell of a lot easier in the days of nokia brick phones. Touch phones make it nearly impossible anyway, so I gave up on it.

True fact. With those phones, you could text one handed. I was able to text without taking my eyes off the road when I had my Razr.

I think that people should have to retake their drivers test every 10 ish years, regardless of age. As you get older (like 60+) you should have to ever 5 years.

[QUOTE] I don't think it's child abuse I just see it doesn't work well.

I think it's a combination of other things with spanking that makes it effective. If a parent sucks at parenting, a swift swat on the ass will not teach a child anything.

Exactly! I had trained myself to text w/out looking anyway in HS since I would text under my desk without keeping my eyes off the teacher, haha.
