Oh, and after my accident on New Year's, I don't think you should have to pay your deductible if you were in a hit & run situation (verified by the police to be a hit & run) or if it was determined that the other guy was at fault.

I agree to a point, but then who eats that cost? Why should the insurance company have to eat the cost when they not at fault, just as much as you are? All that would do is result in higher rates. I believe (and this may be the law already, IDK) but anyone who is caught doing a H&R should get their licence revoked for a long ass time. Like 5 years minimum. If you can't be honest with your car, you shouldn't be driving one.

But see, I think that's why people are so quick to cry "abuse!" They don't know all the facts, and they judge a situation they don't know everything about.
It makes more sense now that DJ explained it, but I think alot of people get unhinged about things without knowing the facts (general people, not you specifically).
I am all for spanking, provided it doesn't venture into abuse terrority (like that video that was floating around of the pastor or whoever who kept going back into his daughter's room to beat the hell out of her).
My UO is also that you should be able to spank someone else's kid if the parents won't discipline him/her. I had a kid repeatedly hit me on the back of the head at a party once and the parents just laughed. I was thisclose to popping the kid across the ass. I have slapped a kid's hand when she repeatedly grabbed at Whisky after I told her a dozen times to leave him alone.
And this is coming from someone who was slapped aross the face as a kid and still has the scar (toothbrush was in my mouth, busted my cheek open). It was an accident (the toothbrush part), but whatever, it kept me from doing it again.

Its basically the amount you "self insure" although there is no deductible here for liability claims (if you hurt, injure or destroy someone's property you don't pay a deductible)
Some companies let you lower your ded but you pay more for your insurance.
AATB- its the same with the maximum payouts the ins company will give. It all depends on how much coverage you want to pay for.
My parents own a trucking company and every single truck has a 1 million dollar policy on it in case something happens. They pay a boatload for it, but its better than risking losing the business over an accident.

Glass is covered by your comprehensive coverage - it's the same type of coverage that covers vandalism and such. It's an automatic coverage to which the deductible doesn't apply.
Your accident falls under collision damage, and as part of the collision portion of your policy, you carry a deductible, which is what they are imposing on you.

Just take another look at your policy and what it covers. You can usually add some better options for just a small increase in your monthly bill.

Would you like a babysitting job? lol I need someone who is not afraid to correct my kids when they do something bad.
I'm cool with spanking kids, too. My other unpop op about kids is that parents are damaging their kids so much by tip toeing around them and being scared to ever hurt their little feelings.
Another UO, I don't think a person should be able to plead insanity for violent crimes. Their mental state should not be mentioned during their trial, only during sentencing so that the state can see that they receive treatment accordingly.

I am all for spanking, provided it doesn't venture into abuse terrority (like that video that was floating around of the pastor or whoever who kept going back into his daughter's room to beat the hell out of her). My UO is also that you should be able to spank someone else's kid if the parents won't discipline him/her.
In Response to Re: I judge / unpop ops : Chels, drunk drivers don't even get that stiff a penalty, I can't imagine they are going to invoke it for a hit and run. And it's really hard to catch someone who does a hit and run. It sucks, but that's why some (most?) states require you to carry sufficient insurance to cover such an occurence.

Yeah that's true I guess. It just irks me how dishonest people can be. yeah it sucks when you get in an accident and it's your fault. But don't be a pansy. Own up to what you did.

Agreed. It's a crappy situation all around.
I thought deductibles were just part of having insurance? What's that insurance company with the vanishing deductible? I think it's Nationwide. They're on your side.
Posted by AllAboutTheBenjamin
Its basically the amount you "self insure" although there is no deductible here for liability claims (if you hurt, injure or destroy someone's property you don't pay a deductible)
Some companies let you lower your ded but you pay more for your insurance.
My parents own a trucking company and every single truck has a 1 million dollar policy on it in case something happens. They pay a boatload for it, but its better than risking losing the business over an accident.

I've only done it once, and it was to protect Whisky (this was earlier in the year when he was essentially on his deathbed and couldn't defend himself or run away). If you're going to stand there and let your kid terrorize my cat and refuse to leave when I say so, then sorry, your kid gets a slap to the hand.
But man, when I worked at the zoo, there were so many punks I wished I could have spanked. That is not a good place to work if you have little patience.
You wont have to pay a deductible if you just pay a higher premium. So if you dont want to have to pay after an accident, then pay more each month.
Posted by Blueyed228
Yeah, I'm kicking myself for not choosing that option sooner.
And I should probably retract my previous unpop opinion about not paying the deductible, I'm just whiney because I think it's bullshit that I pay such a high premium already and to have to pay $500 on top of that for something happened to me is like a double whammy (getting hit + paying for damage caused by someone else who's a friggin' drunk-ass coward).
I guess I'm just confused in that I didn't have to pay for my windshield replacement when someone threw a baseball at me, but I do have to pay for damage caused by a drunk driver? Makes no sense to me.

I've yelled at them before. They listen to me more than they listen to their mother. I think it's because their mother doesn't follow through on anything and when I say something you can tell I mean fucking business.

I would be pissed too.
Just take another look at your policy and what it covers. You can usually add some better options for just a small increase in your monthly bill.

I have zero problem yelling at other peoples kids when they are being totally out of line.

I 100% will be doing this, thanks for the advice!
I hate that I was so insurance-dumb before now. This has definitely been a learning experience.
And MrsBJ, thanks for explaining the difference between comprehensive and collision. :)

Would you like a babysitting job? lol I need someone who is not afraid to correct my kids when they do something bad.
Another UO, I don't think a person should be able to plead insanity for violent crimes. Their mental state should not be mentioned during their trial, only during sentencing so that the state can see that they receive treatment accordingly.
