[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Anyone around? : Ithaca snow is SNOW. Ithaca is SO pretty in the summer, but most people are only there for the 5-6 months when it's covered in lots and lots of snow.

<div>I KNOW!!!!!  I never spent a summer there, but I wish I had.  Was there Aug - May for school, and it snowed Oct - April.  Senior year I lived at the top of a steep hill and was afraid to drive to campus.  I kept clothes in my car in case I had to stay at a friend's place.</div>

  • It also didn't help that with people fearing snow today we had a checker and a bagger call out which make the day just that much worse. I'm trying to relax but I'm not sure that will happen until after Tuesday.

The holidays are just hard this year because of all the family drama going on. I have great friends that are being very supportive and everything I need but my family members are making it difficut to enjoy a the things I would normally enjoy with them.

  • Isn't it amazing how much stress families can cause sometimes? I have had my problems in the past where I distanced myself from them for awhile. Now, we are far away, not by choice (but due to H's job) and I miss them. Time usually heals a lot of things, so I hope that things will get better in the new year for you guys.

That is what we are here for. I don't mind at all.

I think TK is an outlet for a lot of us and our problems, etc. Don't worry about it at all Ciara.
  • Ciaram, I haven't talked to you about this yet, but is there a way to do a surgery in utero? Have you guys had to make any decisions yet?

My cousin was born with a cleft palate... 29 years ago. Of course, they didn't do routine sonograms back then, even. She had a lot of hospital visits and surgeries as a kid, but it wasn't terribly bad.

I understand if you don't want to talk about it.

There is a reason that I stayed living where I am when they moved. I lived with them for 20 years and they sold the house here on the Island and moved to Eastern Washington a good 6 hours away 4 years ago. There are times that I wish they were closer but mst of the time I'm glad they can't just drop everything and show up.

They actually offered to buy DH and I a house the winter before the wedding but we would have to move to Eastern Washington for them to do it. We said thanks but no thanks we don't need the strings that would be attached with it.

I'm not sure if there is we haven't met with the doctors to discuss it yet. That is what we are doing Tuesday. I have 3 appointments the first is the ultrasound, the second a meeting with a genetic counselor and the third with the high risk OB. We will find out everything then.

One of my coworkers actually told us not to listen to what my regular OB said because they don't really know what they are talking about and normally make it seem 10 times worse than it actually is.

I'm not worried to much about the surgeries that he will have to go through if it turns out he needs them, its the waiting to actually get the confirmation on whether or not he will need it that is driving me crazy.

  • Good luck C! OBs usually make things seem really serious to cover themselves from litigation, so I think your coworker has a point.

Ciara, I definitely had to cut the strings with my Mom. When we first started dating, I still lived at home at 24 yrs old. She was very controlling and told me I had to be home by like 12 midnight. I basically ignored her and she went off on my now H for it bc we were out doing things.

Long story short, H helped me get out of that situation and into my own apt. We almost broke up a few times bc of her, but I finally came to the conclusion that I had to live my own life, I couldn't live it like she wanted me to anymore. I was done with those days. So, I listened to my heart and talked to other people I trusted. A few months after we got engaged I moved 600 miles away to be with him. While I don't regret it, it is just hard bc in the almost 2 yrs we have been away and only seen the family a few times a year, things have gotten a lot better. I guess that is why I miss them. But I really miss my Grandma and sister the most.

I want to go home really bad to live (for other reasons as well) but part of me thinks that it may be like starting all over again in some ways, even though we would never live really close to them. But now I do know since I have set my Mom straight and she knows I won't let anything get in the way of my marriage.
  • Good luck Ciara!  I hope you get confirmations on everything soon and that all is OK.

<div>I work in Sherman Oaks! I have a good friend who I think was in the program that semester. I'll PM you his name to see if you know him. I wonder if we've run into each other at alumni stuff... I don't hang out with TOO many IC people here anymore, but I know half a dozen or so. </div><div>

  • My mom and I have never really been close. I haven't talked to her much at all in the last couple years. As a kid I hated talking to her on the phone so there were always numerous minutes of awkward silence during phone calls. I lived with grandma and grandpa and when they were moving I knew that I would have to go to school and quit my job if I moved with them. They didn't like me having a job and going to school when they could give me anything I needed. I decided that wasn't an environment that I wanted to stay in so I just moved in with DH (then BF) and started to live my own life.

    Good night WFF.
  • My tv has been hijacked by my FI and my brother, playing on the xbox. So I sit here trying to find signs of life on TK to entertain myself.
    image
  • It has been pretty dead around TK all day.
  • I've noticed that as well. In my area, because of the massive snowstorm last weekend, the traffic was just insane, everyone is getting all the xmas shopping done they couldn't do last weekend. I had to drive around Target's parking lot for 20 min to find an open space. Ridiculous!
    image
  • I live on a small Island in Puget Sound and when people here hear snowstorm on the news they go crazy and flock to the grocery store to stock up. But then again there are only 2 ways off of this Island by bridge and by ferry. The snowstorm we had the week of Thanksgiving it took people 6 hours to go just under 7 miles to get off the island. Thank god the ferry system runs using generators when there is no power or it would be a pain to get off the island.

  • Dang, that is crazy. I probably would have given up. I have a few things to buy for H this week, but I am off the entire week so I am hoping it won't be as bad as the weekend.
