TR - I channel my inner grandma and put a shower cap over my hair.  I'll still need to run the straightener through some pieces but its definitely less time than my typical blow dry and straighten routine.
In Response to Potentially TMI hair question : Your head is very used to you washing so frequently, so it will produce a lot of oil.  I promise you, that if you keep it up with washing less that it will start to produce less oil and you'll be able to go longer.  My hair is very dry and chemically treated, so I only wash it twice a week.  I used to wash it every second day.  If I even TRIED to go 2 and a half days it was nasty.  Now I can go 3-4 days EASY.  Dry shampoo helps, baby powder.  Just put it into your hands and work it into your hair starting at the root.  It'll become managable. If I full out sweat in my head (not just my forehead) then I wash it.  No matter when the last time I washed it was.  But, that only happens to me when I run in the summer.  In the winter months I don't have to worry about it cause I barely sweat.
Posted by mandysmear
This is me exactly.  My giant head of curly (and therefore dry) hair would break and fall out if I washed it every day.  2-3 times a week for me.  If my head gets really sweaty from working out, I'll wash it, but if not, I'll let it go.

I used to wash it every other day, but it is better this way.

Crap. I'm pretty sure that's what I just bought last week. I haven't tried it yet.
• I do wet it on the days I'm not washing it.  It helps the frizz and reactivates some of the curls that get squashed from sleeping on them.
• Sometimes I put in Velcro rollers and then the shower cap while taking a hot shower because the steam kind of sets my hair.

• But not drenching/soaking wet.  Just dampen parts of it.
So Mandy, about how long do you think I'd have to be wearing my hair in a greasy ponytail every other day until it started getting used to being washed less? And if you ladies don't wash it, do you still get it wet and restyle?  What do you do on the mornings you don't wash it?
Posted by FutureMrsTR
PS.  FISHY!  YOU'RE AN ANOMALY.  SO THERE'S THAT.

TR: probably a couple weeks, i'm guessing.  just use dry shampoos in between to help.  or baby powder.  that's a cheap and easy way.  just makes sure you work it in well so your hair doesn't look grey.

i don't even remember how long it took for my hair to adjust.  i just know i had to do it cause my  hair is/was so fried.

my day routine has always been wash at night except on weekends.  i like my sleep too much.  so i will wash it on say sunday.  blow dry, flat iron or curl depending on my mood and laziness.  then i go to bed.  wake up.  spend maximum 10 minutes fixing pieces by curling or straightening kinks out of them.  spray.  go.  and sometimes i don't even spray.  then i will wash it again on wednesday night (probs) and most times i will be talking to the night crew while blow drying and flat ironing.  i take breaks cause i loathe blowdrying my own hair.

Well fail. That's totally the kind I have.
• I might have to try some of these Velcro rollers.  I have pretty fine hair and it's really straight so I lose a ton of volume when I don't wash and blow dry.

• I wash mine every morning, except for the occasional Saturday or Sunday. I have too many cowlicks to be able to shower at night or skip a day. When my hair was long, I'd do it every other day and ponytail it on non-wash days.

• ...I've never used a velco roller, but they were used in my hair for the wedding - proof:

I actually stole these from my boss (who did my hair) and I've tried to use them again, but I can't make it work. Is there a trick?
• Those might be the largest velcro rollers I have ever seen in my life.

maybe I just sweat a lot?  Even in 30-40 degree weather here if I run for more than a mile I'm already sweating... and I'm a long distance runner, so 3-4 miles is typically the shortest I go.

very smart!  just make sure the hair is cold before taking the rollers out.  when the hair gets cold, it sets it better.  that is why there is a cold shot button on blowdryers.  (i didn't know this til i went to hair school)

• Ha, I mean, I use my tressemme stuff (b/c it's at home - rockstar stuff is at work) - it's not the worst. But there are much better options. =)
• GA, me too with the cowlick thing!  My part goes straight down one side of my head and then takes an odd left turn when it hits the back of my head.  And it's much more noticable when my hair is greasy.

• seriously.  ask fishy and alix how long it took me to get ready in the mornings.  no time at all.  i crawl out of bed at 620-625 and i'm outside at 640 getting into my sister's car.

• I will say when my hair was long I washed it a lot less. But I was also in college so the fact that I never really had to look nice probably had something to do with it. I just wore it up all the time.
• I always wondered why blow dryers had the hot/cold setting.  Inneresting!

it's all in the angle you take them at.  take them at an exaggerated angle.  like more than 90 degrees from your head.  put them in 80% dry.  take a blower to em.  aim the blower DOWN the shaft (not up) (omg the jokes.  dirty mind.) because you go up and you'll get fly aways and frizziness.

let them cool completely.  take em out.

• I have dry, coarse hair so I wash every other day.  I used to be able to skip two.

I got the spray Tressame(sp?) stuff and I kind of like it.  I just spray it on my roots and it seems to help absorb oil.  It says to comb it out, but I take a towel and rub the roots.

me too - you're not alone =)
• Ditto Pink. I have specific days I like to wash my hair because it takes so goddamn long to blow dry that I don't want to do it more than twice a week. My hair feels like it's about the same texture and length as a horse's mane.
