Wow... macegate continues on.  That was a bit of an exhausting read. For those who wonder, bear spray can actually work up to 15 meters away, and is a detractant.  It doesn't usually harm the bear, just throws them off you for a second so you can have a chance to get away.  Most bears don't want to be anywhere near people and simply making noises while going around blind turns and up hills while in bear country will scare them away.  Sometimes you piss them off and they bluff charge you.  That would suck.

  • Cali - Me too. I only know this because I was just in the mountains in major bear town where there were several spottings a day, and two instances where bikers came upon grizzlies and were bluff charged... so I read all about it so when I went hiking, I was prepared and maybe wouldn't shiiit myself.

Although, we live in bear country too (just no grizzlies).  My H took this on his way to work this week.  How cute is this cub?  H was worried that Momma was around so snapped this and quickly took off.

  • So, E should not plan a camping trip in bear country, right? We'd all be a mess, covered in poop and being chased by bears.
  • I kind of find it hilarious that Kwills considers me a twat.  I take it as a compliment, coming from her.

I have a feeling she was all talk, though, and she isn't coming back.

  • The past few summers, we had huge bear issues by my mom's house. One day N and I were hiking with Bax and saw a HUGE bear not too far from us. Thank the mothereffing universe Bax didn't freak out (or even see him, I think) and we just froze. The bear looked back a few times, but just wandered off.
  • Bay if she was back, we'd know it because she'd find a way to almost fit in and blow her cover after 2 weeks being like "I told ya so, people DO like me!!!"
In Response to Re: FFF : It states that if my animals disrupt the peace they may be forced to leave.
    Posted by StefffiC
Your animals aren't disrupting the peace. If you called animal control on the neighbor's dog, you'd have at least some documentation. If your landlord tried to evict you after that, it would be retalitory which, while I don't know the laws in your state, is illegal here and probably is in most other states. If you actually consulted an attorney (or a decent one) he or she would likely have told you that. I also doubt the attorney would have suggested you spray the dog with bear mace as that would be considered excessive force, leaving you open to charges of animal cruelty.

This may have been addressed already, I'm just trying to catch up and wanted to say something now because this is really pissing me off.
