Cali - Me too. I only know this because I was just in the mountains in major bear town where there were several spottings a day, and two instances where bikers came upon grizzlies and were bluff charged... so I read all about it so when I went hiking, I was prepared and maybe wouldn't shiiit myself.

The past few summers, we had huge bear issues by my mom's house. One day N and I were hiking with Bax and saw a HUGE bear not too far from us. Thank the mothereffing universe Bax didn't freak out (or even see him, I think) and we just froze. The bear looked back a few times, but just wandered off.

Your animals aren't disrupting the peace. If you called animal control on the neighbor's dog, you'd have at least some documentation. If your landlord tried to evict you after that, it would be retalitory which, while I don't know the laws in your state, is illegal here and probably is in most other states. If you actually consulted an attorney (or a decent one) he or she would likely have told you that. I also doubt the attorney would have suggested you spray the dog with bear mace as that would be considered excessive force, leaving you open to charges of animal cruelty.

This may have been addressed already, I'm just trying to catch up and wanted to say something now because this is really pissing me off.

My S and BIL had a bear poke his head through their cat door at their house. Unfortunately it was shot later that week because it was being a nuisance. Poor thing.
