Good Morning! Well, not so good for NC.

Re: Good Morning! Well, not so good for NC.

  • Um... I haven't been to Disney either.  I don't have a ton of desire to either because of all the kids. Yes. The reason I don't want to go to Disney is because of random children. I know, I'm the devil. :)

Hey Baylicious! Guess what?! H and I just decided to take our summer vacation in..............

    BOSTON.

For serious.  Well, it won't be entirely in Boston. He will be there for 4 days for a conference (where I will be on vacation. At the Westin. BUAHAHAHAHA) and we're taking advantage of the free airfare. The other week we'll probably do a drive around on the East Coast.

FI said recently we'd have to go when we have kids and I was like uhh are you crazy? I'm not waiting that long!Posted by angelstar975We just went in February and it was amazing. nbsp;I'm a huge HP fan, however.FI has been trying to recreate the perfect Butterbeer since then. nbsp; He's getting close, but even in our souvineer Butterbeer mugs, it's not the same. I need to try butterbeer. My best friend went last year and she loved it. I was so jealous! I love Harry Potter, I love that he has his own "world" haha.
So this week has been crazy busy but I'm kinda looking for advice that isn't really worth it's own thread so here I am!  I'll try to be concise. I've done almost 100% of the wedding planning - FI hasn't really cared to be involved which is fine, really.  He's had like ... 3 or 4 things that I asked him to do and he did them, or so I thought. Our plan for the wedding night (Saturday, btw) has been to go stay in a local hotel just for Saturday & Sunday then come back to real life since we can't really afford a honeymoon right now.  FI had assured me that he had talked to his dad (who is staying with us) and he was happy to house and dog sit for those 2 nights.  Last night I found out that's not true and his dad is leaving right after the wedding Saturday.  I don't know if FI flaked or his dad did but I'm just so, so disappointed.  Now we not only don't have a dogsitter but someone has to drive his sister to the airport Sunday morning.  So our "mini-moon" is pretty much scrapped. I know that if I tell my close friends or family about this that one of them will step up and offer to do both of these things but I really don't want to do that - it's not fair to them and they've already done a lot to help.  I'd rather scrap the planned hotel stay than dip further into savings to hire a sitter. WWYD?
    Posted by ceh789
Could you swing a professional dog sitter for those two days?  If not, I think you should ask a couple of friends if they would be willing to do it.  As long as you make it clear that they can say no if it would be a burden, I don't think you are asking too much of anyone.  It would just suck if you had to scrap your plans because it sounds like you were really looking forward to this.  And you deserve at least a "mini-moon".

  • Dude, are you kidding CEH? Ask around for someone to watch the dog and help you out. There is not a single soul who will tell you no so you can have a couple of days after your wedding. I'd do it and I don't even know you.

Bleh, I just unfriended someone on fb over their NC post.  He was already questionable due to some of his other posts.  Good riddance.

  • Snips, when is your vacay?  That is so exciting!  Will you be house hunting, too?  I know you said that you want to move here.
  • CEH - You totally need to ask around. People will step up. Don't feel bad about it!

I have all kinds of things going on today. My BFF's son (my "nephew" :)) fell out of his bed this morning and has a concussion. Plus, today was her Mom's birthday, who passed away from cancer a few years ago. :( I'm going over there tonight for sure.

  • So are they changing the 10,000 Leagues Under the Sea area into The Little Mermaid? I miss 10,000 Leagues Into the Sea. I don't like when Disney changes stuff.

  • Midge- poor little guy :(.  Other than the concussion, I hope your nephew is OK.
And when is your wedding date?  I think we might be date or almost date twins :).

    That's been gone for years.

Disney closed Mickey's Toontown Fair sometime last year to begin the FL expansion.

  • Hi Penguin!

It will be August 5th-August 20th.  No house hunting!  I'd love to, but I've just now really gained traction and tangible evidence of what I am accomplishing in my job, so I need to wait it out until I can get in good with people and find the right job.

Cfas, I will definitely let you know if we make it to DC! I think that's the actually the route we will take. H is just now saying we can do all the Civil War battle fields that I wanted to do when I was younger! EE! I am such a geek. So we'll probably do Gettysburg, DC and some other places.

Exciting trip anyway!  I like how geeked out you are over the batltefields.  I'm sure they're a sight to see.

ETA:  It reminds me of when Bay was so excited to see that carving of the pilgrims taking the food from the native Americans on the Common.  What was wrong with it Bay?  I don't remember, but you were so funny trying to take a picture to show your prof.

  • Heh. That's a short summer vacation for most Swedes. Seriously.

The whole week before the 20th, I will definitely be IN Boston while H is in his conference, I get to play! WEE!! We should plan lot's of fun stuff.
  • I totally forgot about that until you mentioned it, MP.  It was the attire and the attitude of the Native Americans.  We were studying colonialism and the way it's portrayed in art (the benevolent white people, the subservient natives, etc.) and that was a prime example.  I completely forgot to show it to him, too.

  • What beach are you going to Rach? The panhandle by any chance?

Your SIL is being annoying but I will forgive her if you guys are going to Destin or somewhere else close to me.

Same here, the only reason i'm able to go on a short HM and miss a few days is because i've worked my butt off to get comp time, so it's either they have to pay me for about 30 hours i've worked over time or let me go...they are letting me go on the trip that is.

  • In Response to Re:Good Morning! Well, not so good for NC.:
Snip that will be fun. When we lived in Virginia we used to go visit all the battlefields. So H's family has planned a beach vacation at the end of July. Great, right? Well, it will be if H and I both can take off work. Which is possible, but it will take the rest of H's vacation days since y'know, we took a weeklong HM and all, and possible unpaid vacation time for me. That's even IF I were allowed off. SIL just doesn't really get it that I can't just waltz in and say "Hey I'm leaving for a week!" like she apparently can.I'm annoyed. Posted by rachers1017
It's SO frustrating when people don't enderstand that. I don't get vacation time and when I take off, it's unpaid, and it also means the parent has to take vacation time too since I won't be there. FI never understand this. He's always like, "Just give them plenty of notice." It doesn't really work that way, dude.
