How about try this.....get engaged, then start looking at venues and plan a wedding.  Then it won't matter if your GF knows you are on the knot.   I don't understand the hold up, if indeed you already have the ring and are looking at venues, why not give her the ring and ask her to marry you???

Totally a female response.  I just want it to be special.  We had been talking about getting married and we looked at the first venue on a whim because we were driving by.  So, yeah, it didn't start right, but that doesn't mean I should just give her the ring and pop the question.  I'd like to put SOME thought into how I'm going to ask her.  I realize it's going to be a challege now... hahah.
Any time we go out to dinner or do something, I'm sure she'll be thinking, "ok, this is it!"  LOL.  What have I gotten myself into.  LOL.

Hence the reason you should not start looking at venues and planning ANY aspects of a wedding BEFORE giving her the ring, because most women will think that.    Just freaking do it.....regardless of when or how you do it, it will be special if she really loves you.

My husband could have given me my ring anywhere, any which way and quite frankly it wouldn't have mattered because it would have made me happy!  You are really overthinking this WAYYYYYYYY to much!     The longer you wait the worse it is going to be.....just get it over with so you can go on with the planning of your wedding together!

Well, I apologize for not fitting into your perfect little mold of how wedding planning should be done.  I guess what you're saying is that no one is welcome here to plan or get ideas until they're actually engaged and planning a wedding "properly."

Got it.  I'll just shut up and lurk until I'm a properly engaged man.

You are too much!   I never said you couldn't come here and plan...but you now seem to be all stressed about proposing because everytime you go somewhere she is going to think that is the time.      I was also trying to say that it doesn't have to be something over the top, it can be very simple and I bet your GF will still love the proposal!

You can come here and plan all you want...I love your entertainment and hope you stay around for awhile, you bring something interesting back to these boards.   I was simply giving you some advice that the longer you wait the worse it is going to get!!

And who the hell said anything about planning a wedding properly, what exactly does that mean...it is just a little odd to be planning a wedding before you even are engaged, that is just a little bit weird to me!     If I was your GF, I would be a little annoyed if you went and started to plan OUR wedding before even asking me to marry you, I would make a safe bet that your GF would like to be involved in the planning, since most girls enjoy and look forward to planning their wedding.

Stick around and keep posting you are making my day interesting, but unfortunately, I have to go entertain a bunch of 6 year olds right now, so I have to go, but thanks for making my lunch hour comical!!!   Hope you stick around!

Hah!  Ok.  Just to be clear, I'm not planning the wedding without her.  I'm just trying to get ideas, so when we do start planning (together), I'll actually have something to talk about.  And you know... getting a general idea of how much a church is going to cost is good to know!  I learned something on this forum today.

I realize I brought the stress on myself, but I still want to do something nice.  That's all.  Is that a bad thing?

I got the ring from a jeweler in the diamond district.  I picked it out.  I knew what she wanted from  passing comments about my friends fiancees rings.  I'm sure those "passing" comments were more like "hint hint."  Hahah.  And no, she doesn't know I have it.

I'd say if you looked at venues together and have gone to bridal shows together, she probably knows you have the ring.  Either way, good luck.

Wow. Somebody start putting together the cross because bereasonable2 is getting crucified.

Dude, I hope you aren't a vendor. If you aren't, I commend you on getting some information on weddings before you get engaged. However, there's plenty of time to educate yourself after the engagement. In fact, you can both sit down and surf the forums and educate yourself together. Your girl won't be a wedding expert just because she's a girl. That's why there are forums like this.

Get the engagement done. I'll even give you my proposal if you need a good one. lol

You seem way more into the whole wedding planning thing then most guys are.  Not too many guys join the knot especially ones who are not engaged who are looking for wedding advice.  For wedding planning that should not even be taking place considering you are not engaged!!

You might want to check out the Not Engaged Yet wedding board.

Thanks smw42. =)   I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. Bereasonable is putting up one hell of a defense to prove he's not a vendor. Can't say that I think a professional would go through all of this just for some business. I say lay off the guy. He could be just a regular guy that is over thinking the engagement/wedding process which could come from nervousness and a little bit of insecurity.  Let's face it, not all guys have the predisposition of a romantic/sensitive side that can come up with all the ideas on his own. I'm a guy and I pride myself on being well rounded but that's because I was comfortable enough in my own skin to allow myself to be vulnerable and do things outside the normal "man" box.

Personally, I never thought bereasonable was a vendor...didn't come off vendorish at all to me...most vendors come on here and recommend a particular vendor (themselves) but unless I missed it, I don't recall him doing that.    I still don't think he is but maybe I am wrong.    And I really hope not, because I love this entertainment!

Yeah, so I'm done with trying to defend myself.  I'm not anyones photographer.  This happened the last time, too.  Just because I wanted to remain semi-anonymous (for now), I got the 5th degree, then got the boot - all based on assupmptions.  I never recommened any vendors.  I never tried to sell anything.

Some people just spoke up and *poof* I was gone.  If that happens again so be it.  No more entertainment for Goaliegirl.  LOL.
