[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Dear Congress... : I never said that the woman was less important than the fetus. Just because the fetus needs the mother to survive does not mean that is has less of a right to live. That is how God made us, that is how the life cycle works. Calling a fetus a parasitic organism is pretty harsh in my opinion. I also wouldn't call abortion dying from natural causes. The adult chose to remove the baby from a life sustaining womb. And I forget who asked this, but I am against the death penelty.

It IS a parasitic organism. I'm not saying I think of tapeworms and babies as the same, but the fact of the matter is that a fetus has a parasitic relationship to its mother. Sorry if you don't like it, but that's how science works.

And I know you didn't ever flat-out say that the mother is less important than the fetus, but my argument is that taking the stance that abortion is wrong is by definition giving more weight to the rights of the fetus than the rights of the mother. So either be anti-abortion and recognize that you place more value on a fetus than a grown woman, or be ok with abortion, but don't try to kid yourself that you can have it both ways.
• If both the mother and the fetus can make it through the pregnancy alive, I don't understand how I am valuing one life over the other. Medical science has come so far that death of the mother due to childbirth is almost a thing of the past. I realize it still happens, but it is very rare.
• Your argument is that the fetus has more rights to another person's body than the other person in question (the mother) does. I'm not talking about the mother having to die, I'm talking about each human having sovereignty over his or her own body and how the anti-abortion argument takes away a pregnant woman's rights to her body based on the argument that the fetus has more important rights.
• My argument is that abortion is murder and murder is wrong. Sorry if that's too black and white. Neither one of us is going to change our minds, so there's really no sense in continuing to argue about it on a wedding message board.
