[QUOTE]I don't think it's unfair to impose. I think it would both help stop the overpopulation program and help encourage responsible ownership. If you can't afford the cost of a spay/neuter, then you probably can't afford the cost of emergency vet care either. Thus, you aren't financially ready to have a pet. I think it would be very beneficial to have everyone but licensed breeders have their dogs spayed/neutered.

One issue in LA is enforcement. They can't go house-to-house to check. So if there's a noise complaint or the police come to your house, they can catch you/fine you for not having your dog fixed, but that's really rare.

  • They could institute it by requiring shelters and pet stores to spay/neuter, I suppose.

In Response to Re: I judge... : Don't judge me...I wear whatever I want to work. This includes flip flops, tee shirts, and yoga pants. Most mornings I know I don't look like I am going to work, but I really am. And although I have never done it, I sometimes wish I could get up earlier, get her ready, drop her off in my PJ's and go back home to get ready in silence. This would put her at "school" (daycare) a half-hour earlier than usual. So I have never done it but I would like to sometimes. ~I judge KPS posters and try to guess which one of you posted which secret. ~I also judge the grammar police. It's a message board, not an e-mail to my VP of marketing. (And I trul/e/y believe in being grammatically correct. I just don't feel the need to go back over every post and critique people's spelling. It's self-righteous, IMNSHO). That is all.

didn't require an apostrophe with the word P.J.s, and never start a sentence with the word 'and'.
    that is all.

  • I judge people who make scenes in a crowded shopping place or restaurants.

I judge people who think everything should be handed to them!
    Finally, a Mrs!
  • Holy shitt, Grammar Police came back in this thread? How did I miss this? That is pretty funny though.

  • Ok here's a new one

I judge the person on my dog forum whose dogs have been fighting (note, not playing, but drawing blood fighting) for over 3 months now but she refuses to crate or muzzle them. She's now saying she won't muzzle them because it would cost her $30/muzzle, and she doesn't have that kind of money right now.

I understand being short on cash, but really? You are going to the vet weekly to get stitches on the dogs and antibiotics, it seems like a good investment to me.

    You have a PM

I judge my neighbors. They've been trying to sell their house for 2 years (way overpriced) and instead of fixing things that are unappealing, they do cheap cover-ups.  I'd be pissed if i bought that house and discovered that it was all an illusion.
  • I really don't understand why you wouldn't spay/neuter your dog, to be honest.  We adopted our dog from the Humane Society and he was already neutered.  Just the morning before we got him, actually, and he was fine.  He's never humped anything and he's not overly aggressive. I'm not sure if this is because of that or not, though.

Here, in St Paul, your dog has to be altered to visit the dog parks.  Registration was only $11 for him (would have been like $60 if he wasn't.)

Even if you're the best dog owner in the world, accidents happen.  What if a neighbors dog gets into your yard?
  • Anna, that was the house we almost bought. The investor repainted/recarpeted and put in all new appliances. We were so distracted by all the new and shiny things we never noticed the broken boiler, sagging roof, rotted deck boards (supports underneath) etc. Thank god for inspectors.

duh katie...this would be the person that would dump the dog at the shelter claiming it wasn't hers or it was mean so it would be euthed right away...cause if she took it to the vet then she would have to spend way more than $30 for a muzzle

  • That's the stupid thing jelenny, she's had these dogs for 7 years and apparently the fighting just started. She's now using a plastic e-collar to keep the meaner one from biting the less mean one, but doesn't understand why that one is now getting bit. Crazy lady says what?

the only problem is you still have the "backyard breekders" on craigslist and in the paper with their "akc" registered puppies for sale...

a lot of shelters and several rescues do spay and neuter - laila was fixed, utd, and chipped for a whopping $117 - I paid $125 to make it a little donation...if you get a "Free" puppy and have to do all the shots it typically is way more than the fee for adopting...BUT there is a wave a discount spay and neuter clinics, of course people look a free, get lazy and never vet the dog...

i guess i just get sick of the emails and pleas we get you cannot save them all and it's not the shelters fault for having to euthanized, if people adopted instead of bought, fixed their pets instead of breeding...it would stop the cycle...too many emails of XXXX urgent, puppies, labs, boxers, chi, to be PTS TOMORROW and they never have a name...nope just numbers since every day the shelters have to euthanize...sucks
