I'm trying to figure out what time to make the hair/makup appointment for. I alread spoke with the photographer about how much time she needs, and took into account travel time, and buffer time, so I am thinking for a 4PM ceremony to start around 11AM. But wondering if that's too early?
Re: How much time are you giving yourself to get ready?
If it helps, my hair and makeup people are getting to my house for 9 AM for my 7 PM wedding, but they have 9 people's hair and makeup to do.
Two of my other girls are getting hair done, but we are going to a Salon for it.
I wasn't sure either, but i spoke with the salon to confirm how long they expect to need. They asked me what time the ceremony is and how far I had to drive, etc, and where very helpful with planning. I also spoke with the photographer to confirm how much time they will need before the ceremony. With that, i added in travel time, and time to eat lunch and get dressed - plus an little buffer. I'm going to start at 11 for a 4PM ceremony. My salon expects me to be out of there by 1-130.
I think it is better to have extra time then not enough! I wouldnt' worry so much about your hair not holding up - i think they will make sure it does!
As long as you have a "practice" run with your hairdresser you can adjust your time as needed according to how long the practice run takes. That is what I am planning to do. I have all morning set aside to get "ready" as I do NOT want to be rushed. I am a photographer by trade, so I know how frazzled rushed brides are. Be sure to leave yourself plenty of breathing room.
P.S. Don't forget to eat!!!! It's mentioned above, but worth the repetition as it's probably one of the most over-looked things to do on your wedding day. But one that can have the most impact on how you feel and your ability to enjoy the day.
I'm not trying to dump on Mary Kay, they have a lot of nice products, however I am not a fan of their base/cover-up. When I had a Mary Kay party I also felt like the makeup covered too much and looked very flat. If you would like to get it done professionally I would certainly look around at other salons and see what they have to offer. I don't think there is any problem with doing your own makeup. If you are uncomfortable with it go on Youtube or Pinterest and look around at ideas/tutorials to practice and have fun with.
I would suggest doing a trial run. I did a trial run for my hair and makeup this past weekend. We spent slightly over 3 hours fine tuning my hair and make-up and now the stylist is aware of what I want. On my wedding day, it should take 60-90 minutes to do my hair.
I also did the trial-run to be able to test the quality of the hairstyle and to make sure I like the way she did my make-up. It is an added expense, but typically less than what it cost on your wedding day as they don't have to use so much product.
Strongly recommend a trial run
