Anyone else watch it?
DO NOT READ FURTHER IF YOU DON'T WANT SOME SPOILERS. I tried to keep things vague, but these are the fun details.
Opening scene with the swords and wolf pelt- pretty sure it was grey wind's pelt, but who did the original sword belong to? My vote is for Ned Stark, since they emphasized his gigantic sword in the "previously on.." segment.
Cersei continues to be a self absorbed, catty bitch, though she does introduce a new comment to follow Loras- instead of his grandmother's "sword swallower" we now have "pillow biter."
Margery has a touch of her grandmother's snark- a necklace of sparrow heads, YES!!
Olenna's one scene was brief, but enjoyable, especially her admiration of Brienne
I don't blame Sansa for feeling miserable, but I wish she'd be more like her sister- Arya proved yet again tonight what a total badass she's becoming.
Tyrion has quite the mess on his hands- grieving wife, pissed off girlfriend, and Oberyn Martell's warning
Speaking of Oberyn, I greatly enjoyed the look on the blonde procurer's face when he was ordered to stay as entertainment, only for Oberyn to start playing stabby hands at the sound of The Rains of Castamere
Drogon is HUGE. And snapping at his mother. I got a chuckle out of the contest between Grey Worm and Daario, especially when they dropped their swords immediately. I'm still annoyed they replaced Darrio, but thought the new guy made a good point with the flower scene, pointing out to Dany that she has to know her people and their customs to rule effectively. If it was the old Darrio, as soon as she got the flowers, the clothes would have started flying off.
For the first time, Jamie is forced to realized his "nephew" is an arrogant little shit not fit to rule. I think Brienne is going to have to smack him around a few times before he remembers his promises.
Preview for next week's episode indicates the Purple Wedding has arrived!!!
Re: GoT Season 4 Premiere? SPOILERS
@shrek- the wolf had to be Grey Wind- Ned never had a direwolf; Lady (Sansa's) was killed early on, Nymeria (Arya's) was run off to save her life, Ghost (Jon's) is somewhere around the Wall or beyond it, Summer (Bran's) is with him beyond the wall, and Shaggy Dog (Rickon's) is with him. That leaves Grey Wind, who was killed (or apparently killed, depends on what plot twist theory you enjoy) during the Red Wedding, beheaded, and his head sewn in place of Robb's after the Red Wedding. They showed Grey Wind's head in the final episode of last season.
Regarding Ramsey- he's Roose Bolton's bastard. Roose (guy who betrayed Starks and stabbed Robb saying the Lannisters sent their regards) mentions who he is in final episode of season 3. During the opening credits for last night's episode, we saw their stronghold for the first time (black, red painted flags). Ramsey isn't interested in the throne, he's merely a sick, psychopathic asshole who likes to torture people for fun. Unfortunately, his father is ruthless and sees this as an asset, which is why he's in charge of destroying Theon/Reek. Now that we know his father is working for the Lannisters, Ramsey has extra motivation to hunt down Bran and Rickon, so that House Stark and the Stark name are finally and completely destroyed.
There was a line in the books where Jamie unexpectedly found Brienne attractive (the bath scene where she stands up and nearly starts whaling on him), but he was very uncomfortable with his arousal, as she's nothing like his sister (except in the blonde coloring) and he didn't expect that to happen. In the books, Jamie is slowly making the evolution from the self absorbed incestuous jerk to the man with honor.
Cersei's previous family lover disappeared mid way through season 2. Her self absorption is staggering, and Jamie is starting to realize that while he was always faithful to her, she's a spoiled brat. Before Robert's death, it was implied she slept with her husband long enough to have a dark haired son (who died), prior to Joffrey. I think theres a subtle hint there that afterwards, she only ever slept with Jamie, faithful to him, BECAUSE he was always there with her. As soon as he was gone, she found another playmate. That has to be grating on him, that he spent the better part of a year trying to survive, while she's busy screwing around.
@shrek, nope, bastards are given last names based on the region they are from. The north- Snow. The Eyerie- Stone. Dorn- Sand.
Ramsey and Jon are in no way related, except Bolton was a vassal to Stark, so there might be a minor blood tie there. Theories on who Jon's parents are run rampant, as we dont know and the two people who did in the books are now dead. Ned's still in the running. One of the favorites is that Jon is the son of Rhaegar Targeryn (Dany's older brother, the last dragon), and Lyanna Stark, (Ned's sister, whom was "abducted" by Rhaegar, starting the war that ended the Targeryns rule and put the Baratheons on the throne). Lyanna was dying when Ned found her, perhaps of childbirth or infection afterwards, and she made Ned promise something. Catelyn was pregnant with Robb when she arrived at Winterfell to find Jon already there as a baby.
A fan favorite also has Jon marrying Dany at the end to tie the bloodlines together, end the hatred, etc.
Personally, I'm expecting the White Walkers to come in, slaughter everyone and everything in the 7 kingdoms, and Dany takes one look and goes "eehhh, no"
I don't have HBO, but I have read the books. I'm just hoping I make it through the end of 5 by the time that season comes out. I'm a slow reader. (I read the 4th book over a period of 3+ years.) My Fi has read it all and I get mad at him for spoiling things that happen in the books that I haven't read yet.
As for theories for the way it will end, I think that Dany is the key and her dragons are important. While all the kingdoms are playing their games, Winter and the White Walkers are the real threats. So far, they're being mostly overlooked, which I believe will be the to the detrement of the entire kingdoms. I think that Dany will come across the Narrow Sea and conquer, however, at some point the war will shift and the Seven Kingdoms will have to come together to survive against the White Walkers. Dragonglass is a major weapon against them and I think that the dragons will save the world in the end, though they may die in doing so. At least, that's what I think.
GRRM has a sense of humor to be sure and he loves a good twist, so I can't see something as seemingly "obvious" as that being the real ending either. I heard of an interview where he said that he chooses which characters live and which ones die based on whether or not his wife likes them. If she does, he kills them off. I've also heard him joke that the last two books will be nothing but descriptions of snow blowing across gravestones. I just hope beyond hope that he actually writes the darn things. Just like Patrick Rothfuss and the Kingkiller Chronicle. Get over yourself and finish it already!!!
"They say there's no such place... as Paradise. Even if you search to the ends of the Earth, there's nothing there. No matter how far you walk, it's always the same road. It just goes on and on. But, in spite of that... Why am I so driven to find it? A voice calls to me... It says, 'Search for Paradise.' " - Kiba, Wolf's Rain
I just listened to a "Smooth" version of the Game of Thrones theme (from the opening of the show). My friend shared it on facebook and said he hoped that someone put together all the Cersei/Jaime moments to it. Smooth jazz GoT. Yay.
Now I must look up what Chipmunk referenced. Looking forward to confusing my coworkers with an outburst of snorting laughter. Does people good on Monday.

I'm so excited that GOT is back!! I think there was a lot of good set-up last night for some really interesting/exciting things to happen this season!
ETA: @Chipmunk415 - I saw that honest trailer! It was hilarious!
Awesome episode.
Who gets the sword now? And I think the fool did it because he seemed pretty ready to go. But then he has talked to Sansa in the garden that one time so maybe they came up with it together. But ugh, Tyrion
I just reread the books last year and to answer they do say in the books exactly who did the killing and how ( though it was slightly different from the show). IIRC littlefinger explains it in a Sansa chapter.
Also, I don't know if I was just being judgy, but did it not look like the show was hinting at a potential future relationship between Bri and Jamie? Ladies who have read the books, do you remember this being a part of the book? I know that if there were something it would have been in book 4 and I flew through that book because it was extremely boring to me.
Yeah the hints towards it irked me. I could be totally wrong but I am almost postive there was nothing hinting towards it in the books.
Also, Cersei, isn't all to into Jamie anymore not because (well maybe partly because) he took soo long to get back to kings landing but because he isn't a whole man anymore (lack of hand).
As for Brienne and Jamie there are some hints to this in the book. I think there is one scene when they were traveling where she is naked and he thinks to himself that he surprisingly finds her attractive.
I also love hearing theories on who did it from those who haven't read the books. I think it is explained pretty well in the book who did it and who was in on it and how it was executed (not sure if it was shown the same in the show). I think you probably will find out in an episode or two.
