Speaking of waxing things...

Re: Speaking of waxing things...

  • I can't imagine getting armpits waxed!  That sounds so painful!

I got below my knees waxed once and surprisingly, my shins were more painful than a bikini wax.
  • So ladies who get a wax, you don't clean up at all for six-eight weeks? That would probably kill me. I got a Brazilian once and waiting for it to be long enough was basically torture. I shave probably every three days.
  • I get a brazilian and my eyebrows waxed every 4 weeks. I get my lip waxed probably every other month. I've gotten my underarms waxed a few times before. Underarms DEFINITELY hurt the worst but that could also be because it's not something I do regularly. The other things don't really phase me anymore. I've been getting brazilians once a month for 3 years now and will never shave again. I'd really like to do laser but it's so expensive :(

  • I'd like to have laser too, at least on the bikini area, but yeah it's totally expensive.

Has anyone ever tried that NoNo, or know anyone who has?  I've been curious about it but don't want to spend the money unless it really works.
  • Wow, I feel like a hippie. I just trim. I've never had anything but my eyebrows waxed. Fun fact: don't wax your eyebrows if you use a retinoid cream...it'll tear your skin off.
  • The worst part about waxing is waiting for your hair to grow back so you can wax it again. That's like two weeks of hairyness.

That article is pretty funny! I used to get brazillians regularly. I might start again now that I'm moving somewhere that I can use groupon. I had mostly good experiences, going to a couple salons in my college town, but one bad one in my hometown. A friend of mine had gotten waxed there once, and said it was so painful. I figured she was a baby because my experiences had not been that bad. I now know that the salon academy in my hometown's area probably leaves something to be desired.

I made an appointment and was met by a lady with a Russian accent that took me to the back, saying with a slight cackle, "Vee don't do vedy many of dese!" (pro tip: this is when you should run).

In previous waxings, they got it done pretty fast. They did the front (mons area is actually the worst part, interestingly), the sides, then had me lay on my side with a leg up to get the back and it was all over in under 15 minutes. It doesn't feel good, but it's not as bad as you'd think.

Well, this lady took an hour. And for some reason, she thought that if she pressed down after ripping it off that it would help the pain. She also did not have me turn over for the back but continue laying on my back, so this did not work well. She continued with the weird pressing thing, so I questioned if an accidental fisting was going to occur.

So an hour later there is still hair left and she's trying to pluck it but I'm in so much pain that I tell her I'll just do it myself later when my vag is less angry. I figured that there's 5, maybe a dozen hairs left, but I got home and there was a considerable amount left so basically it took her an hour to do half of what most places do in 15 mins with a lot less pain and potential for unwanted fisting.

So from now on I will be checking reviews before making waxing appointments.

  • Just throwing it out there, if anyone is considering a wax my most enjoyable expereience was at a European Wax Center. I have no idea what makes their wax different than any other hard wax, but its much better than Uni K's and the soft wax with strips. Fastest, cleanest, best job for a brazilian (and I've gotten them on and off for the past 5 years)

  • I know I couldn't handle the hairiness between waxings, so I've never bothered trying it. I'll probably look into laser hair removal once the wedding is paid for... ya know, that or grad school. Priorities. ;) I think it's a worthy expense compared to all the time and money I'd save not having to shave or wax for the next 40 years of my life and never even have stubble. I have several friends who've done it and said it was totally worth it.
