  • Any updates on this yet about whether she got her cat back?

  • I'm so worried about the cat right now. I hope the fake owners don't just put it outside or something equally stupid. Poor kitty.

If I were the police, I'd tap on the window to get its attention. If my cats heard noise at the window (just a light noise, nothing scary), they'd come in the room to investigate.

I'm going to go hug my kitties right now.
  • I feel so bad for the Dexter's real owner. What a shady operation happy trails is..... I still stand by reporting them to the BBB. So do the new owners have any idea what's going on? Maybe I missed that part, but it seems like any reasonable person would give the cat back...

  • This whole thing is BANANAS.  What is wrong with people?

  • This story gives me chills. I hope Dexter is okay. I pray he gets home soon

  • Wow, I live in a suburb of St. Paul so this is pretty local to me.  I will definitely be passing along this information about this rescue.  I hope they get banned from taking more animals in!!  They should NOT get away with this.

I really hope Dexter is found!!

  • What a shocking and horrible story. I hope Dexter is reunited soon with his rightful owner.

If I were in your or the owner's position I'd sue the organization, its president and the foster along with the steps you've taken.
  • I'm super late to this, but what the fuck ):

  • @pinkrevenge I was away all weekend but was thinking of Dexter - any word?

    Holy. Wow.

As someone who volunteers at a shelter - this is just CRAZY pants!

Most fosters at this time of year are packed full of cats and kittens in their homes and we have cat rooms and crates with way too many cats at the shelter! The odds that this cat was adopted in a matter of days would be pretty amazing. And a foster who wouldn't WANT one more cat gone so they can take in one more from a physical shelter to foster? Or one less cat there to have to care for? Seriously - we have people who have like 2 of their own cats and are fostering 2 sets of kittens in extra bedrooms with their mothers until they are old enough to be adopted. "Kitten season" as we call it just ended - and that means TONS of cats who need some love!

ETA - that my point is any normal fostering group / shelter would be delighted at a call about a cat who's only just there temporarily and has a forever home already to go home to!

Totally email the press with all this.  As a member of the media, if I worked in your town, I would look into this.
So I realize I'm way late (haven't been on in a couple days.)  I live in a pretty small city.  So whether the media is interested or not probably largely depends on how big your city is.  We have one animal shelter and EVERYBODY adopts from there.  We did an entire story plus a photo when their sign got vandalized.

ETA: totally quoted the wrong thing.  I meant to quote one of @pinkrevenge's posts about the media not jumping all over it fast.

  • Well just yesterday a big news story came out about another rescue (that focuses on dogs) that is in hot water for doing the exact same thing to two other people.

Take a wild guess who was bashing the news and anyone who agreed with it in the comments. Go on, you'll never guess who was in there, telling the community at large that they suck and they're stupid and animals will DIE without the amazing work THEY do.
I might be coming to the area on an ass-kicking mission.

  • Shocking! Maybe if they spent less time trying to the judgment God for all stray &/or lost pets and spent MORE time trying to reunite said stray &/or lost pets, they'd stop getting themselves and their pathetic "rescues" smeared across the news.
