So, for those of us who aren't old married hags (yet!), what are you currently up to as far as wedding planning? Right now I'm figuring out my Save the Dates. We have a lot of OOT guests I figured I should start shopping around and order them within the next few months. I'm probably going to either use a VistaPrint template and play around with the features or I'll use a service like PicMonkey and put something together. I really want to purchase a cute illustration of FH and I (and our cat) from Etsy and include those on the StDs. I've been looking at an illustration like this in particular from PippaPaper on Etsy:

I'm still unsure, though. I have time! I've been reading that you can send them up to a year out, but I feel like 8 months is more appropriate. What are you all doing? What have you just gotten done? Show me!

  • I'm planning to start my centerpieces (we're planting wheatgrass) and experiment with cookie recipes for favors this weekend and probably practicing our first dance. With the height difference between my FI and me, it's hard to not stumble on each other so we should probably practice...a lot...I also have to call the Florist. I haven't been able to get a hold of her since we signed the contract and gave her our deposit. I'm kind of afraid she just ran off with the money or went out of business or something.

Good luck with your centerpieces, cookies (feel free to send some my way for a taste test), your first dance practice, and getting in touch with the florist!

  • Ha... I'm trying to make myself decide on flowers. And our wedding is 2 months away. I'm ordering them wholesale so there's not a huge rush, but my mom is about to lose it stressing over this. I promised I would sit down this weekend and decide once and for all what I want regarding all-things-flowers. I know I want big white hydrangeas because those have been my favorite flowers since I was like 13 (screw you pinterest for sticking hydrangeas in EVERYTHING), but I'm not sure if that's the only thing I want/do I want to add in some random small flower to compliment that/what about centerpieces/etc.

    Cheers to the freakin' weekend!

  • Reception venue hunting! I'm not sure if I want to do a place with an in-house caterer or if I want more options!

  • I've spent all weekend getting my invites together. So far, they've been printed - still need picked up - I have the postage and envelopes coming as well. I'm planning on doing a personalized stamp but I need to see the weight of the envelopes before buying them. Last night, we went and picked out the suits for the guys to wear, so that's taken care of as well. Now it's just herding cats to get them all to get measured. My Dad doesn't own/won't buy a suit, so he'll be ordering one and it finally got down to "You are wearing a suit. You wore one for my brothers wedding. You're wearing one for mine. END OF STORY." Fairly certain he wanted to wear his mechanics coveralls. He's lucky I like him (kidding. kidding. sort of.)

But yeah, invites seem to be on the horizon for me for the next few weeks. My mom comes into town in two weeks for my bridal shower so that'll be nice to have her to help since she's over a thousand miles away from me.

  • Invitations came in this week. I'm ditching the response envelopes I had planned to use for a colored one, so those are on the way. Initially I'd planned to do a belly band to tie it all together but something to fit 6 x 9 is proving to be hard to find and I am not feeling the DIY route with that. So once the envelopes come in I can shop for ribbon to make a flat bow and call it a day.

Invitations go out in March, so I feel ahead of the game for once in this process.

    Those STDs are so adorable!

  • I'm sitting here coming up with nothing. I should plan my centerpieces or something. I really don't have much left to do.

I think I will start to put together my comb!

  • Right now I'm working on our guest book poster and programs. Except we need to finalize the readings before I can make the programs. So I should probably get on that. I've also been addressing a couple invitations a day.

  • Right now I'm trying to figure out which of the BM's and moms want hair and/or makeup so I can give a deposit to the stylist and also figuring out who to use for rental equipment. This weekend I'll probably start building our registry and website and maybe we'll work on the STD's.

  • This weekend I want to: (1) buy my wedding shoes; (2) figure out FI's tux situation with him; (3) go over the ceremony outline with FI and our officiant so I can design the programs

I just finished assembling my invites the other day (see photo) and now I'm apparently working on writing my vows lol (actually started jotting down some ideas last night).

When I first read that you were looking for STDs, I was gonna recommend Vista Print! FI designed ours but I uploaded them to Vista Print and got a really great price. I had looked through their templates (before FI said he wanted to design them himself) and they have tons of cute ones. Plus their shipping is pretty fast.

  • I have a dress fitting today. Last night I was able to schedule my hair appointment for the wedding day, and will be doing a trial in exactly 8 weeks, so I want to find a comb for my hair and figure out what I want to do with it. Our invitations arrived this week, so I want to put them all together and get them weighed for stamps. We only have 10-15, so we could probably address them and everything this weekend to be ready to send out in just 2 weeks! I also want to try to figure out how we want the ceremony to go. I'm not sure if we want to write our own or what. We'll see if we get to that. I think that's it.
  • Practicing calligraphy and finalizing my invitation designs - all that's really left on that is to figure out the content and wording of the details insert. Then we can order!

I also need to find 3x3 candles for our centerpieces. Does anyone have suggestions for websites to get cheap candles? I'm still deciding between LED and real ones. Any input on that? Venue has no requirements.

Other than that, we're in a nice little lull.
  • I'm working on bouquets and bout's (we're doing fake flowers) and FI is working on cutting out the favour boxes from our material.

FI is been such a helpful crafter. His work has slowed down due to the economy so he's been sitting at home alot. And instead of playing video games he's been doing these favour boxes while watching James Bond (To manly it up lol).

Our wedding isnt until the fall but we want all these time consuming projects done during the winter, because once its summer we are not going to want to be inside crafting.

  • I need to get FI to renew his passport.

I need to find a way to explain to my one over-excited friend that even though she's trying to give it to me as a gift, I don't want my hair done and thank you but no thank you.

Those are the two that are stressing me out because FI is too busy at work to take the morning off to stand in line at the passport office and my friend is super sensitive and is going to be devastated that I don't want to do it.

  • I gotta finish dress design sketches and get a dressmaker locked down, and I also need to start my invitation designs.

Itching to mail out invites, but it's a tad early still.

Going to the seamstress today for my dress - she called a little bit ago and asked if it was letting my dress out or bringing it in - she couldn't remember....um, she's had the dress for 3 weeks, shouldn't she have asked this earlier?  Whatever, we still have lots of time.  grr

** - update, she had it taken in when I got there, we need to take it in a bit more in the bust, she's gotta do the bustle, and sew in the bra cups.  Her total?  $65.  I'm shocked, and will probably give her a bit extra because that seems awfully cheap.

  • Over the last few weeks our planner wanted us to:
    • Start thinking about floral
    • Start looking for wedding rings
    • Start looking into bakers
    • Send STDs
    I managed to:
    • Make a decision on what I want to do for floral, but don't have to really act on it for a few more months
    • Look online for rings along w/ my fiance, but he wants to try things on in person- we've done nothing about that
    • Research online the 2-3 bakers the planner referred us to; decided not to do anything yet b/c we're 9 months out and a few places seem to prefer they not be contacted more that 7 months out
    • Send our STDs

My fiance and I have hardly seen each other the last 3 weeks b/c of our different work schedules, and on top of that, he's been going to lots of different doctor appointments and is going to have 2 minor surgeries in the next 3 weeks- I'm more worried about that shit than stuff I don't really need to do for another 2 months at least.
  • We're so behind on sending save-the-dates.  They're going out next week.  Also, we need to choose a cake person, but they all tasted the same to me.  It may come down to who can best do a cake along these lines:

We love that it's a subtle reference to Harry Potter (and our first date was right after I saw the last movie).

  • We're getting tuxes and registering this weekend. I'm trying to find some ceremony music for under a grand. I'm surprised how hard that is. Other than that, everything is going great! Tasting march 4, can't wait!

  • We decided on centerpieces last weekend! And we also booked the officiant. Next on the agenda, is setting up the hotel blocks, and ordering invitations. We're cutting it close with the invitations, so I want to get those ordered soon. Looks like TK is being funky with the image, but I uploaded a pic of the centerpieces below.

  • I'm an OMH but at 7 months post-nuptuals, I'm STILL working on our wedding scrap book. I got all 400ish pictures in it and am now trying to fit in the notes from our guests before putting down all the embellishments. I swear, I've spent more time working on this book than I did on planning the wedding!

  • Um....so for sweating under the dress, do you just put baby powder all over your body?  I just had a fitting, and I was running sweat down my back and my legs just STANDING in my dress while she laced up the back.  Is there something other than slathering anti-perspirant all over myself that would help with this?

  • Omg that illustration STD idea is SO CUTE! I love it. :)

Right now FMIL and I are figuring out if we can make the placecards I like ourselves. They're $2/each on Etsy (so probably almost $400 total) but we think we can make them for around $60. Hopefully one of the next couple of weekends we can get together and make a mock-up (and get started on the "real" ones if the mock-up goes well!)

  • My SIL just sent my invites to the printer! eeeeee. Seems really real when there's information put down on paper!

We're still really far out from actually sending the invites, but SIL was designing and printing them for us as a wedding gift (shes a graphic designer). She's currently on Mat Leave and her access to her work programs and printers etc will expire soon so she wanted to get them done asap.

I'd go with gold bond powder or a thin spray-on anti perspirant. Might make you smell a little more medicinal than baby powder but it also might keep you cooler.

  • FI's doing some research on caterer's.  We're using our spring break from school to do some wedding planning, So I told him I want a short list from him of 2-4 caterer's that I need to set up meetings with during that week in March.  He's basically doing the leg work for any and all food related wedding things, since I did the leg work for photographer, DJ, and venues.

I had ordered a lantern from Amazon that we were thinking of using for our centerpieces, I wanted to see one before we decided on it.  Well it came in the mail yesterday.  It looks good, I was a little surprised by how wide it was, but that's just because my brain has a hard time comprehending what 7 1/2 inches square looks like.  FI says he likes it.image

Other than that I just have my on-going paper crane folding.  I'll be able to get more of those done during the summer when I only have work, as opposed to work and school.

  • Oh, and FMIL is bugging me to go up there to pick out flowers and cake and meet our minister.  So I may have to take a day off later in the month.
