What would you have done?

Re: What would you have done?

  • Serious question here. Does grandma have a cell phone?

  • I am planning on going to the grocery store this weekend to calmly speak with someone to let them know what happened.
If your family has any intention of pursuing legal action against the store, DON'T do this. You may accidentally say something that gives the store a solid defense. Let a lawyer handle it. When I worked retail we were told to be VERY specific with our incident reports when people reported injuries on site, just in case they said something that made it clear they were in any way responsible for the incident.

I'd give it a little time to make the call on legal action. Once you know how much the hospital bills, etc will be, and your grandma recovers enough to give you the full, clear story, you should plan your next steps.
  • Jesus fuck, universe, Y U HATE HIPS?!

My mom tripped over a chair leg at the bank today. Fell and couldn't get up. The bank manager tried to call an ambulance right away and the STUBBORN OLD BIRD REFUSED. Thankfully this manager was slightly more with it then the grocery store one, and wouldn't let her just try to leave. He drove her home in her truck, with someone following to drive him back. She called one sis "I think my hip is broken but I'll just wait for H to get home," who obviously wasn't buying her shit, so she called the 911 dispatcher sis and sent an ambulance.

THE AMBULANCE GOT STUCK IN HER DAMN DRIVEWAY. We cannot win. But since sis had spoken with the paramedics already, they refused mom's wishes to go to the nearest hospital (medic said "I know your daughter; I see where she gets her stubbornness," lol), and went to the better hospital instead. We're waiting on x-rays now.

DAMMIT PEOPLE stop being so goddamn stubborn!!!

  • I work in physical therapy, so no, obviously no.  If someone cannot stand by themselves, there is no way I can ethically load them into a car and send them on their way.  However, you cannot force someone to receive medical treatment.
  • Lolo, I'm so sorry about your mom! Please let me know what happens.

My grandma does have cell phone. She sadly didn't have it with her. And we don't plan in taking any legal action against the grocery store. She has very good insurance and will be covered most likely for everything.
  • Ugh. Sorry @lolo :/ . Stubbornness, be gone!! And hope Gma is on the road to recovery quickly, @climbingwife!

Crap!  I'm sorry lolo.  You're right, the universe is hating on hips this month.  I hope her surgery is uncomplicated and that she recovers quickly.

  • The fact that your grandma fell while she's on blood thinners is scary.  It's a good thing she didn't hit her head! Probably because I'm a nurse, I would have called an ambulance for sure. In a situation like that, I could never let an elderly person who just fell and CAN'T STAND get in their car and drive home! But you would think people would have the common sense to call an ambulance for a situation like this anyway!
