Aside from hair and makeup it also depends on the dress -- corset or all buttons take a lot longer to get into

For my sister's wedding we did hair, makeup, and were dressed in two hours and that included lots of food and mimosas, but her dress was a zipper and we did each other's makeup. For my best friend's wedding we were up at 6:00am for 3:00pm ceremony, and spent the whole time getting ready (there was lots of coffee that day). She had a corset dress that she didn't anticipate would take so long to get into and we ended up getting to the church late.

My ceremony was at 6pm (I had to be ready to leave my hotel at 2:30 to go to the winery for pictures and we did a first look) and I got up at 7:30am.

I think @lilacck28 is having a brunch wedding. She could give us her day-of timeline if she has it.

Prep time depends on how many people are in the WP and what they're having done. I have 6 BMs, plus 1 groomswoman, and I'm paying for hair and makeup for all of them. I anticipate that we'll have to start around 11am to make sure everyone is ready on time. I'm supposed to get to my venue at 3:30 for pics, and then the ceremony will start at 5:30pm.

its weird how people can be so different.....i was chatting with my sister and discussing this thread from today and she saw no issue with the whole A list/B list thing. i was shocked! she said the B list is probably more distant friends/relatives to begin with, and that most people understand that guest lists have to be trimmed. so they might be disappointed but overall understanding. what???? i mean sure i understand that my old friend from HS that i havent talked to in 2 years isn't going to have me at the top of his guest list....and if im not on the guest list at all i wouldnt blame him. buttttt i would blame him if he kept me in a "maybe, if theres room" list. SMH.....

I lined up a backup officiant today - there are two pastors at the college church, and the second one will be in town and agreed to step in if needed (i.e., if our officiant doesn't kick the pneumonia and vertigo to the curb). I owe him so much. Whether or not he has to step in, I'm getting him a gift card to a nice restaurant.

Right?! I'm never offended at not being invited at all. I understand that people are on a budget and can't invite everyone they want but being B-listed feels like they are saying we just want you to fill a seat because we have to pay for the meal anyway.

Sorry I've been MIA-- had a dentist appointment back where my parents lived, so I've been visiting with them for the past few days.

I love that you guys are talking about brunch weddings! @eilis1228 is right--- we're doing a brunch wedding, and I'm really excited about it! I'm OBSESSED with brunch, and anyone who is close to me knows it. DC was a great place to live for brunch too... that's the main thing I miss!

Jewish wedding. Most of us (seriously, the vast majority of my guest list!) eat and love bacon, but according to my parents "it's just not done at Jewish weddings!" and my grandpa would go "ew". So, yeah. No piles of bacon. BUT I went to bat to get the brown sugar bacon wrapped scallops as one of the hors d'oeuvres options. My parents don't think anyone will eat them, but I know I will, and FI and his dad like them. Also, no omelet station. Which is a bummer. I love omelets. But we were trying to keep costs down.

My timeline isn't really set in stone yet. I need to talk with my photographer to see what time she wants to start doing pictures, and then talk to the hair/ makeup people to see when we'll need to start.

The ceremony is at 11:30am. Cocktail hour is at 12, and the reception is from 1-5pm.

My guess, based on initial talks with the venue and the photographer, is that we'll start taking pictures (first look, family portraits, etc.) around 9:00am, which means hair and makeup will probably start around 6am. Which means I will need to wake up around 5:30 to shower, eat a snack, etc. I hope hair/ makeup people don't say we need more than 3 hours! But I could be wrong. in which case.. yeah. It will be rough. Two of my bridesmaids are sleeping over at my parent's house with me which should make things easier on them. The third is my FI's younger sister, and she's also invited to sleep over but she (or her mom) might want her to be with FI's family. ETA: My mom is also getting hair and makeup done. So it could be 4 or 5 getting hair and makeup, depending on FI's sister. When I find out from hair/ makeup when we will actually have to start with them, I will let you all know! And, my dress doesn't take long to get into. It's a flowy silk and chiffon soft a-line with a button covered zipper, and a few real buttons.

Now, I'm going to take this moment to fully AW my wedding food. I hope you don't mind.

There will be champagne, mimosas, bloody mary's, poinsettias, and any other type of juice you want to mix with champagne, plus the usual non alcoholic stuff throughout the wedding. I think during cocktail hour they're doing a bunch of non-alcoholic fancy drinks too. I love virgin margaritas and daiquiris, but I don't know if other people do. Shrug. Was just part of the package.

And for food, there will be:

cocktail hour: cheese and crackers and veggies and dip, 6 passed hors d'oeuvres (little hot dogs, steak sirloin with horseradish aoli, shaved duck on crispy wonton thingies, little crab cakes, the bacon wrapped scallops, and MY FAVORITE fried goat cheese medallions. FRIED CHEESE.), plus 2 hot chef's choice dishes. No idea what those will be.

Then for the actual brunch/ reception, we're doing a served fruit plate and then a buffet of smoked salmon eggs benedict, vegeteble and cheese quiche, waffle station with syrup, strawberries, butter, and whipped cream, crispy chicken piccata (I wanted to do fried chicken and waffles as a homage to DC brunch, but the venue said NOPE you pick from our normal selection of entrees for chicken), penne a la vodka, bagels (cream cheese, jam, butter, lox spread) , muffins, croissants, and hash browns or potato pancakes (I guess the chef will decide? I don't even know which I prefer!).

My dad is CONVINCED we need another "lunch" type entree option. He thinks we should do a salmon or fish dish, and if not that, then beef or duck. He spent an hour today talking about it with me. I said "take it up with mom!" What do you guys think? Will guests be annoyed by the lack of lunch options?

I don't think it would hurt to have a red meat option like beef - you could do beef shortribs or sliced brisket or something.

@lilacck28 - I'm going to crash your wedding, okay? I think everything you listed sounds amazing! I don't think you need another lunch type entrée I'd be thrilled with everything else being offered. I don't need lunch food.

@nycgal85I understand wedding guest/ money stress! It's great that you found out early that some of the things that you thought were okay will actually insult people. It's totally possible to find a happy medium and balance everything without making your guests uncomfortable. We're getting married in CT-- in the expensive part of CT, since that is where both my parents and FI's parents live. Brunch is saving us a LOT!! And it's delicious! I knew from the beginning I wanted to do brunch because that's my thing, but the saving money thing was SO helpful. My parents/ FI's parents also increased our guest list beyond our initial expectations, but we're able to afford everyone, including SO for people who don't even have SOs yet! I would be more than happy to lay out the PP costs, etc. for you (I've talked about it on other boards)! Also, we looked at one or two venues in NY (South Salem area) that were lovely, and do brunch, if you're interested. They were a touch more expensive than ours, but still. Also, our venue is only a 30 min drive over the border to get into NY....putnam county area. I'm not sure where in NY you were looking, but... maybe check out CT venues too?

@labro yeah, I agree. I'd be more than happy to add a dish. FI loves brisket! My dad thought fish would be good so the Kosher people would still be able to eat all the dairy stuff too. My mom thinks a fish option will be smelly. I'll need to contact the venue to see what adding an entree would add up to. If it's another $10 pp....then that's another $1000. Since it's something my dad feels strongly about, I'm leaving it to my parents. Their money, their decision. My mom thinks the food we have now is enough, my dad doesn't. They'll have to fight it out.

@bethsmiles @all NEY ladies.. I would kind of like it if you crashed! But I'm not going to B-List you! I'd like to actually meet you all at some point, and FI hears so much about you that you're practically family at this point.

@lilacck28 you are making me hungry and I just ate lunch an hour ago! And now I am questioning the idea to do a traditional dinner reception! But that's what we are locked into now, so I am going with it. Maybe I can still do a waffle station during cocktail hour as a "breakfast for dinner" option too.

Also, how could you possibly forget to mention cake?!
