Do you like root beer?

2

Re: Do you like root beer?

  • I am incapable of drinking a glass of Vernors without inhaling the fizz and coughing. I don't know why. My whole family learned this trick years again, we all do it.
    ~xoxo~

  • I love root beer. There is an A&W stand here that makes it on sight and it is seriously the best thing ever.

I also love ginger ale. Vernors is probably my favorite you can buy in a can. There is a local brand here is Kentucky that is like a citrusy caffeinated ginger ale called Ale 8 and that is sooo good. You should only get that in a glass bottle though. It isn't good in a can. Glass bottles all the way.

Root beer is actually the only brown soda that I will drink. I hate coke, pepsi, dr. pepper.

Now here in New England, we love our ginger ale. Pretty much all restaurants have it on tap. When I lived in AZ people thought I was insane for trying to order it. They were like "Um, we don't have that...you only drink that when you're sick". Travesty I tell you.

I didn't know ginger ale (Canada Dry is the best) was a NE thing, but I love it with lots of ice. And I still enjoy a Shirley Temple every now and then.

I love root beer and sarsaparilla. But birch beer is even better. We buy our soda from a local small batch soda company.

  • @jenna8984 I always thought ginger ale was a safe drink to get at a restaurant. Never knew they don't have it everywhere.

I love root beer, cream soda, birch beer, all those drinks.
Mr. Pibbs is a southern or Mid Atlantic thing right? My sister and I always laugh about that (inside joke); we got it on vacation one year on our way to Florida.

  • If ya'll love root beer, try it with Malibum rum (the coconut kind). I love it.
  • I like root beer but rarely drink it. Sometimes I mix it with water :(

Rum and rootbeer floats are my life.

  • I love root beer, but not Barq's. And not with ice cream. Diet root beer always disappoints so I save regular for 'special' occasions.  I love gingerale but not Vernor's (it doesn't taste gingery enough).

I try to keep full sugar gingerale in the house for when I have an upset stomach. Whenever it's around, The Kid drinks it all- while complaining that we don't keep "good" soda in the house. I can drink sugar free gingerale happily all the time but it's a bit harder to find.

Iced tea can only be unsweetened.

I'm with you, I make my own pitchers of iced tea because I can't stand sugar in my tea.

A tip for the upset stomach, I found all the sugar in gingerale usually made it worse so I get a bottle of fizzy water and some fresh, peeled ginger.  Put the ginger in the fizzy water bottle (it will cause a lot of fizz so do it over the sink) and let it sit for at least 15 minutes.  Then you get delicious unsweetened fizzy water with a hint of ginger and it's great for upsat stomachs.

  • Love root beer! I'm corn fed white folk though so... I always wondered why I liked it. Now I know.

I'm also into Mr Pibb. That was my drink when I was little. They stopped carrying it in a lot of gas stations. Sad times...

Me too, with the Shirleys! I still love a Shirley Temple once in a while, for nostalgia.  (Or a Dirty Shirley, with vodka added.)
I like most root beer. A&W, only on tap. It isn't the same at all, bottled. There's a brand called Teddy's with Theodore Roosevelt on the label, and I really like that one.
Typically, I only buy soda for holidays and parties.
  • LOVE root beer!  I prefer A&W over Barq's.

But I think the best I've had was at Schilo's Deli in San Antonio.  They make it everyday in wooden barrels and it's so creamy.  I'm drooling right now.  DH refused to drink it because they use egg whites in it as a foaming agent and that grossed him out (also the reason why they can't bottle it--can't let it get to room temp).

I never knew ginger ale was a New England thing either. The more you know ...

Dirty Shirleys are my "The bride recommends ..." cocktail at our wedding. Try it with Bacardi torched cherry rum.

I'm in the minority here but Barq's is my favorite soda of all time. A&W is an acceptable substitute. Mug rootbeer brand is the absolute worst.

  • I can't think of a soda I dislike. I mean I like some better than others but overall...I like soda.

Also rootbeer float vodka exists. I have yet to try it. But lord do I want too.
  • I don't even understand people who do not like rootbeer. That is the equivalent of not liking fireworks. I will take EVERYONE'S rootbeer. I love jelly belly rootbeer flavored jelly beans, those rootbeer barrel hard candies, Barq's rootbeer, and my supreme lord and savior: IBC rootbeer

...I actually don't like fireworks either unless they're far enough away that I can only barely hear them.

I reiterate my gif from earlier as my one redeeming factor.

I don't understand this. Fireworks is blowing shit up. What's not to love?
  • MIL loves root beer, because she says it tastes like home. I like it well enough. It isn't really a thing here though. There's only one local brand, which is freaking expensive, and I can't find any of the US brands outside of the city (where they're also expensive because they're imports), so I have root beer maybe twice a year.

I could kill for some ginger ale right now though. I didn't anticipate getting sick, so we only bought cola and lemonade, and now all the shops are closed because it's Easter.

    - The stars, like dust, encircle me in living mists of light. And all of space I seem to see in one vast burst of sight.
  • I love root beer. It's my favorite. Mug, A&W, then Barq's is the proper order of best root beers, though.

I don't like the noises. I LOVE the explosions visually, but I don't really like loud noises in general. I always end up with a headache after the 4th of July.

  • I'm meh on root beer. I like it when I drink it, but I'll rarely choose it. I'm a coke zero girl.

Funny root beer story. When I was about 4/5, there were root beer float samples at the grocery store. I was amazed at the magical floating pop and though it tasted pretty good too. Mom bought a 2 liter bottle and when we got home, I opened it, grabbed a glass and started pouring. All over the kitchen counter and floor after the glass was full. I couldn't undertand why it didn't work at home. Mom explained the ice cream, much to my disappointment. I really thought it was magical pop.
