Fuck you Shonda Rimes! (spoiler alert - Grey's)

I didn't think she would actually kill off Derek.  I think she should have ended the series awhile ago, so few members of the original cast are left.

Re: Fuck you Shonda Rimes! (spoiler alert - Grey's)

  • I was coming on here to post the same damn thing.

    Derek?! No. Just no.

  • Oh damn.

I haven't watched in YEARS (honestly didn't realize until recently that it was still even on) so I wasn't worried about spoilers but that surprises me. Actually H and I were watching TV the other night and he said "that's STILL ON? haven't they killed everyone off yet?" so I'll have to go tell him. :-p

  • I had avoided spoilers and knew there were rumors that Shonda wasn't happy with his attitude on set, but his contract is good for another year I think.  I really didn't think she was going to kill him off.

I get that "happy" doesn't make for good tv, but I'm over them killing everyone off.  I'm surprised they let Christina Yang move to Switzerland instead of killing her off too.

  • I haven't watched in years and I hadn't heard the spoilers. For some reason, I put it on tonight. When I saw the episode name, I thought something was up. And holy shitballs. I cried my eyes out.
  • UO here but I was kind of 'meh' about it. They did not try to hide it was happening. I'm still wrapping my mind about it but it seems so anticlimatic at this point.
  • Christina was my favorite character, and since she's been gone I've been looking for a reason to boycott the show. I think this is the reason.

  • Throughout the episode I was back and forth with- oh they won't actually kill him off... wait maybe they actually are.. no they wouldn't do that... wait a minute I didn't expect that... it was like an emotional rollercoaster for me! Edge of my seat, commercials came on and I was right on that remote to fast forward (DVR started watching about a half hour in).

AHHHH I'm still hyped up from it!
  • I don't think I've ever cried so much over a TV episode in my life.  Literally sobbing out loud, ugly Kim K crying.  This is still "my show" (my not-so-guilty pleasure, I have no shame) and while I had a feeling this was coming, I am pretty much devastated.

I understand that I need to get a grip, but I'm glad that there are at least a few people in the world still watching this show...

  • It kind of took me by surprise, but honestly, I wasn't the biggest Derek fan anyway and I can't say it was all that emotional or surprising in hindsight considering the behind the scenes/contract issues that have been going on for a couple years now.  I probably should have expected it - when they renewed the contract, didn't he only sign on for something like 13 episodes this season?  And he's been wanting to leave for at least three years now.

I've only been watching half-heartedly since Cristina left.  Pretty much my fondness for Kevin McKidd is keeping me semi-tuned in at this point.  I did tear up over tonight's episode, but that's more because I have a tendency to start thinking about how I would feel and react if it were my own partner.  So it could have been any character and I would have gone into empathy overdrive because I'm too consumed with thinking how devastated I would be in that situation - it's not actually about that character for me.

I hear you!  Derek wasn't my favorite either, I was way more upset when they killed of Dr. Sloan, but it was just one more thing about why the show isn't as good as it used to be.

  • I also haven't watched the show in years, but wow. A bunch of people on my FB were talking about it, though. I never thought they would kill Derek off though.

  • Gah I cried my eyes out! But fuck Facebook, I was on there a few min before the show started, and one of the "sponsored" ads was an article on usa.com and the headline said "Greys kills off major character" fuck you usatoday and facebook for ruining it for me! I feel like there should be some law where you can't talk about a show until like 2 days after it airs.

  • I haven't watched it yet because we don't have cable and I can't stream it on CTV until tomorrow. I had some friends from Ontario post it on fb. I've been really frustrated with the show since Christina left. The long- lost sister line has been done before and why can't they just let Meredith be happy? I think they should have ended last season(?) with the move for Derek.

I obviously think too much about fictional people.

    Anniversary
  • I should not have clicked on this. I debated it for a moment but figured no biggie I don't have time to catch up for a week or so. FI even warned me not to open it and now I am a big ugly crying mess.

Luckily I'm not as bad as George dying or after the plane crash. The plane crash hit hard because to this day my BFF blames me for Sloan dying. My cable cut out for a few seconds as they showed the plane flying, while I tried fixing it I sarcastically said the planes gonna crash people will die not missing much. The cable clicked on just in time to see the wreckage.

  • I'm still watching Greys Anatomy, but the last two years haven't been so great. Tonight's show made me cry. I like Meredith and Derek together. Who's left? Meredith's new sister doesn't appeal to me, neither does Derek's sister - can't even think of their names. Owen is boring. YAWN!

IMO, the most gut wrenching episode was the one where they killed George O'Malley off. OMG. How could Shonda do that? I bawled my eyes out over that elevator scene.

I cried the most when George died and when Denny died. Ugh. So sad.

I cried most with Lexie. That one was such a shocker to me.
  • I haven't watched the episode yet but I put 2 and 2 together last night after seeing some fb posts.  I seriously though the series was ending like 2 years ago, I remember being surprised when my DVR still picked it up.  I still watch it although half heartedly. I'd heard the rumors that he was leaving the show and honestly I'd rather them kill him off vs him disappearing out in DC and starting a new life with his lab partner or whoever that was.

    Denny was the worst.

  • I stopped watching after Christina left... That just seemed the natural place to end the show to me.  But now I feel compelled to know what happened in the seasons since!  I can't believe they killed Derek off.  Hasn't Meredith been through enough?  How much tragedy can one person have in their life seriously!

  • I stopped watching a few years ago, then when it came on Netflix I caught up to the end of season 10, when Christina left. I came across this spoiler last night and...yeah definitely not gonna bother watching anymore.

She's ruining the series by killing everyone off. It's not Game of Thrones, FFS! They work in a fucking hospital! So stupid. I agree that she should have ended the show a while ago.

Really? I didn't give a crap about Denny. I didn't feel like they did a good enough job of developing his character and making me believe why Izzy should love him so much. I didn't buy it.

    George, though... that was brutal.

  • I knew it was coming since last week but I was really hoping I was wrong. Fi was all "he isn't going to die, you'll see" and I was telling him through tears "HE IS GOING TO DIEEE I KNOW SHONDAAAA" wine glass in hand.

Gosh I cried so much because I actually liked Mer and Derek together. And I kept thinking how hard that situation would be for me and Fi.

At least Scandal Had a good turnout!

  • I've watched on and off for years. There have been entire seasons that I stopped watching and then eventually I get sucked back in. FI and I went to the gym and then had a late dinner. We got home and Grey's was on at the part where Meredith was talking to the doctor who wanted her to sign something to take Derek off life support. WUT WUT WUT?

I still haven't watched the whole episode. I have never been that swoony over McDreamy or their relationship but I liked the idea of two kind of unhealthy people building a healthier life together.

Shonda is a mad woman. All of her shows are beautiful disasters. I sometimes have to skip a few weeks of episodes when I get monologued out. Dear lord, the monologues!

At literally 9:01pm last night, a girl I went to HS with posted on Facebook a picture of Patrick Dempsey in his Grey's costume with the caption "Nooo Derek! I can't believe they killed him off!!" And there were no likes and about 18 comments all from other people like "wtf I haven't even got home from work yet I was going to watch it tonight..." "thanks for the spoiler alert..." etc. And the original poster responded to all the comments saying "well I'm a true fan unlike some people. Only true fans watch their favorite shows in real time" LOL WTF. I don't even watch the show but wanted to punch her.

We have a friend who always is spoiling Game of Thrones on Facebook. Drives us nuts. If we aren't watching it in real time we tell him to please please not text us or post on Facebook that night.

Honest question, but does anyone actually watch TV shows** in real time anymore? That's why DVRs were invented.

    **Not including sports in this.
