@jenna8984 they are fun we on't do them too ofte because of the expense, but it seemed H & I both had the same thought about paper= tickets for Broadway shows for an anniversary gift.

@lavenderfields13 you're not a horrible person. I love my bf's mom, but I can only handle her in small doses. It is perfectly ok to not want to spend all your free time with his family.

I will try to have this convo with H as nicely as possible. I don't want to argue about it but he needs to know how I feel. I think sometimes he just thinks I'm a bitch because I don't want to spend time with them (even though they annoy him too, but his mom can be cray cray and guilt trip him-which is a whole other issue). My parents are states away so he sees them MAYBE once a year if that and I don't see the rest of my family constantly so he has no idea what it's like to have to spend so much time with your ILs.

Hey everyone!

Hope everyone's had a great last couple weeks. I've been MIA because of working on my classroom and getting things ready.

SO ready for this weekend. I'm exhausted.

BF and I are heading to see our favorite couple tomorrow to eat and go out with them.

This week was kinda rough -- thought I was losing my job due to lack of kids in kindergarten. Luckily, more registered. Also, BF thought he was losing his job because his boss gave him a fit one night over leaving to go to church (even though it was worked out weeks beforehand). Luckily though, all is well!

@misskittydanger oooh I thought you were changing it, I'm like why? But that makes sense if it was just a glitch. Yum ribs and those potatoes sound yummy. In Sept there is the biggest faire in New England and I cannot wait to go and eat the fresh cut potato chips and all the fried pickles!

My day is not starting out so great. I was exhausted when I woke up this morning even though I went to bed early last night. And my lip was swollen when I woke up this morning. I have no idea why. I put some ice on it before I went to work but since I could only do it for a few minutes that didn't really help. I'm trying to ignore it the best I can but it's really annoying. Today is the last day I have to work with my co-worker. I am so freaking excited about this fact and I don't have to work tomorrow so I'll actually get a whole weekend, yay!

I was talking with my mom about photographers last night and it did not go well. She doesn't want to pay more than $1000 for photography. There's just not a lot of quality options at that price point. FI and I are more than willing to pay for photography ourselves because it's so important to both of us. But my mom takes everything super personally and I'm worried that us offering to pay for the photographer we want will turn into a way bigger thing than it needs to. I'm probably more stressed out about this than I need to be.

@lavenderfields13 - I 100% feel you on the spending times with the ILs thing. My family lives 9 hours away so we don't see them super often. FI's family lives in town so we see them all.the.time. I do really like them but sometimes I just don't want to see them when I just saw them a couple of days ago. I'd be really annoyed if FI cancelled plans we had because his parents wanted to do something.

@Swazzle - I'm glad your dentist appointment went well!

@Minskat30 - I'd be really annoyed if FI was bugging me about money as well. The comment about the checks not being free money would have really pissed me off since it sounds so condescending. I'm glad you got to talk to your H and he apologized though.

I AM SUPER EXCITED TO MEET EVERYONE TOMORROW!!!!!

My life is really boring this week besides tomorrow's festivities. My dog training thing starts Tuesday so I'm really excited about that!

BF and I have been talking a lot about what kind of dog we should get someday light of my new career! I have two dogs already but they're technically my roommates. They're like my step-dogs lol I take care of them like they're my own but when I move out they're not coming with me. Anyway BF is trying to convince me to get a lab but the problem is I had one before and my heart is still broken over losing her five years ago, I miss her very much and I don't think I'll ever have one again. So now they're following me everywhere lol and a couple hours ago I was filling my parking meter at work and there was one that looked JUST LIKE my dog and suddenly she jumped up and kissed me right in the face. It was really cute but made me sad. I don't think I'm ready for my own dog yet lol.

Oh! And BF promised that we will set a date for our anniversary Boston trip!! I asked him one last time if we were gonna go or not and he said we will plan one and have a date set by the day of our anniversary. So it'll probably be in late September or early October. I'm relieved that I don't have to shop for an anniversary gift now lol it's so stressful.

Did your mom offer to pay for the photographer so she's letting you know her budget for it? I know things cost different depending on the area but I think around here you'd be able to maybe get someone just starting out for $1000. We spent $2000 and THAT was cheap! So many photogs were 3K+ and that seemed to be about average. There were plenty that were way more expensive than that too. Ugh, IDK maybe you can get quotes from a bunch of photogs you like and show her the prices so she understands. I'd explain that the photography is very important to you so you're willing to pay the difference and that you're grateful for what she's offering.

ETA @untouchablets I think that is a sign to get another Lab but I am biased. I don't think I could ever get a different breed of dog, I love all the labs we've had/have. I understand your reasons though.

@bethsmiles Have you considered attending a bridal show? We found our photographer there, and he gave us a really good deal. Normally quality photographers cost about $4-6k here, and they may not shoot all day or have multiple photographers or offer engagement sessions, etc. We were happy to pay for a good photographer, but we really didn't want to spend more than $3k if we could help it. Cue the bridal show I went to on a whim out of initial engagement excitement. We found a bunch of really great photographers who were offering their services for $1-3k. We were blown away by how great they were for that amount of money. We love our photographer, and he ended up being under our original budget. Bridal shows themselves suck a lot because they're so aggressive and sell your information, but if you make up an email address specifically for your wedding or even just that particular show, you can avoid the spam.

I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS WEEKEND! We are printing our wedding invitations tomorrow! We're printing them on old school 19th century presses, which will be an adventure in and of itself. I seriously cannot wait to see how they turn out.

I also can't wait for all the awesome AWs next week. @TwoDimes will hopefully be back to AW her wedding, @southernpeach89 and @labro will AW the awesome baby shower, and all the NYC NEYers will AW their brunch!

@lavenderfields13 - My parents are paying for the whole wedding, well really my dad is the one paying. She knows what photographers cost but according to her none of her friends look at their wedding pictures anyway. I sent her a few last night that I like that are more affordable but they aren't under $1000. I'm not willing to compromise on photography though so really I just need to tell her that we'll pay for photography on our own. I just don't want to deal with her potential melt down over that.

ETA: A rational person would not freak out over someone saying they'll pay for something on their own but my mom has a huge anger problem that she should absolutely be in counseling for but of course if anyone suggested that she'd just freak out at them.

@untouchablets Yay doggie talk! I have never owned one in my life but I really love my brother's golden retriever. H won't get one because of all the fur so I think we're going to get a lab in the next year. I really want a one year old rescue that is already potty trained. And YAY for Boston trip!

@bethsmiles No problem! The only thing is they'll want you to book ASAP. Most would only guarantee their special bridal show price for like 48 hours at the max. The photographer we booked was under budget, came with a 2-hour engagement session, a 2-hour bridal session, and all-day photography with 2 photographers the day of the wedding. It was a friggin steal, and his pictures (so far) have been fantastic. I definitely wouldn't have found him if we hadn't gone to that bridal show.

@swazzle - The dresser/media center looks amazing!! You're so lucky that you have an H who's into those types of projects. My BF always says he'll do such and such but then does such a half assed job that I've stopped giving him the opportunity.

@jenna8984 - I can't believe you've never camped! Camping near a house can be worse than the wilderness though. When I was younger we camped in our backyard (we had 4 acres), and something kept attacking the tent! It showed up about three times before we finally caught our neighbor scaring us. But seriously, I hope you have a blast.................. Also, getting a dog from the shelter that is already house and/or crate trained is SUCH A BLESSING. I highly recommend it. My dog had those down, which gave me extra time to deal with his other behavior issues, haha.

@bethsmiles - I'm sorry that your mom is going to freak out about the photography issue. Could you approach it in a way more like "Well, we don't want you to have to pay for EVERYTHING, and since photography is important to us as a couple that is something we'd love to cover ourselves."?

1.) I received this amazing house warming present from my mom in the mail yesterday. I am obviously obsessed w/ dogs, and I have always dreamed of having my own VW bus. She managed to find a combination of the two in a rug and it's PERFECT!

2.) I went and saw Wicked yesterday and it was amazing! Elphaba definitely had the best voice of the three times I've seen it.

3.) This is going to be ME tomorrow!

@AlPacina - Yeah, I'm trying to think of how to phrase it so it doesn't come off as ungrateful (because I'm not, seriously it's amazing that my parents are willing to pay for the whole wedding. FI and I could never afford the amazing venue we got on our own). Maybe I'll say something along the lines of "FI would like to pay for the photography since you guys are paying for everything else and he wants to be able to help."

@alpacina my first and only time sleeping in a tent was when I hiked Machu Piccu, so I went from never to FREEZING my ass off in the Andean Mountains! haha I would like a normal camping experience. And your mom fuckin nailed it with that rug!

@bethsmiles I didn't get a lot out of the one bridal show I went to. However, at that point I had my venue booked and my photographer and I had my options narrowed down for the caterer and the baker. So it really wasn't worth it...and maybe @eilis1228's show was different, but I was seriously unimpressed with the vendors at the show. Most them seemed to be promising A LOT for not a lot of money and that made me really wary of their actual quality. Plus the whole thing was like a cattle call with 50 billion women pushing and shoving everywhere, and the strollers, OMG, I wish they'd ban those from conventions. Anyway, good luck on the search! Don't forget to check out your local board for personal recommendations.

@untouchablets and @speakeasy14 I hope you guys have the BEST time tomorrow! I haven't met @hummingbird125 but I can tell you from personal experience that @Swazzle and @GoldenPenguin are probably two of the coolest and prettiest people you'll ever meet!!

Anyway, thanks everyone for all the good wishes on Costco flowers. Unfortunately, the NEY vibes failed me this time. The flowers aren't coming, period. As far as I can tell, the vendor lied about everything and they were continuing to try to lie up until around 12:30 this afternoon when Costco finally told me the flowers just aren't going to make it. I'm getting a full refund and a small cash card in addition, but it just doesn't make up for it at all. I wish Costco had been able to force the vendor to send me a new box of flowers yesterday, because then I'd still have what I wanted today, or that they had gone through someone else and just made it fucking happen. Anyway, I'm just really disappointed in the whole thing. Obviously I don't NEED flowers, but I feel really let down by the whole process and it sucks to just have what I had planned ruined.
