@minskat30@lavenderfields13 It's currently 50% chance of rain in the day and 60% at night, but that percentage has increased every day for the past week or so. Rain on your wedding day is lucky, right? I'm bummed but not panicking. I can't control the weather, so it is what it is. I'm just waiting for my venue to officially make the call. It's totally OK though. It's not what I envisioned when we booked that place, but hey, I get married regardless! And we have a bunch of booze, a great DJ, and some awesome food, so it'll be a great party rain or shine!
@eilis1228 rain on your wedding day is good luck, and could make for some amazing pictures! But just to cheer you up, there's a giant present on the way
H texted me this morning he rewatched the episode and said the person being ripped open was Nicholas because of the color of the t-shirt being worn was not Glen's. So even if that is the case, I don't know how he would survive that herd.
@speakeasy14 YAAAY! I'm so excited! I forgot to mention, but in the spirit of trying to make the best of it, I ordered this umbrella last night with Amazon Prime:
Our venue is a Civil-War era house, so I figured the parasol-esque umbrella would be really cute in pics.
@untouchablets - Highlight: I thought of that BUT he'd need to be covered in walker guts, not human guts. Remember when him and Rick covered themselves when they were in Atlanta in the 1st season? But they were covered with walker guts so that the "alive" walkers couldn't sniff them out.
ETA: @Peaseblossom55 - Highlight: I was thinking I want to go back and rewatch the episode tonight for that exact reason, to see if there were any clues one way or the other. TWD writers are so sneaky!
@eilis1228 I'm sorry you're having to make a rain decision so early! But you know what, you can get some GORGEOUS photos in the rain!!!
@speakeasy14 Yeah, this is the first time we've ever boarded Cinders. Normally we keep her with my parents, but they were on vacation with us too so that wouldn't work. And if my sister hadn't JUST had a baby, I would've asked her as an alternate, but yeah. Maddux and Cinders are pretty wild together and that would have definitely been too much for her plate. All of our other friends that we normally trade pet-sitting duties with have moved away. I figured this place would be nice because it's one of those doggie daycare style facilities. It's on a farm and they'd place her with a group of dogs with her temperment. However, apparently doggie daycare is one of the worst offenders for kennel cough because the dogs all spend a lot of time together in close contact. Ughhh....
My vacation isn't THAT exciting.
H and I flew first class because the tickets were only $70 more per person and coach class was virtually full so we wouldn't have been able to sit together (and we would've both been in a middle seat). We got free booze and a tasty dinner and tons and tons of legroom. It was the best! We spent Saturday, Sunday, and Monday in the Black Hills. We had a family reunion on Sunday and also celebrated our first anniversary and on Monday I took H on a sight-seeing tour of all the major sites (there's still a TON more out there but we didn't have the time). We visited Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park, the Needles Highway, Sylvan Lake, and the Crazy Horse Memorial.
Tuesday we drove back and visited some family on the eastern side of the state. I picked up my great-grandmother's heirloom dresser that needs major major restoration work and we got to ride my aunt's three horses for a couple hours! Here they are! Pal is the palamino, Ginger is the reddish one, and Blackjack is that big black guy who has the smoothest trot I have EVER experienced on a horse. Seriously, it was like a bicycle or something, no bouncing at all.
We spent Wednesday with my grandparents. We visited a small town where a bunch of my grandmother's extended family is buried. I took pictures of their headstones so I could add them to my Ancestry account. Then we drove to the town she grew up in and visited my great-grandparents grave and their old farmhouse. My grandpa also showed us the areas his family farm was in (it's all developed now) and then we visited my grandparent's farm house back in the town they live in now. The people who own it now have done some really nice things to the house and property and I think it looks beautiful! I wish my family could have bought the land back when my grandparents sold it 7 years ago, but at the same time, I'm glad someone is living on it and taking care of it.
Thursday we started driving back to Atlanta. We stopped in my college town (Vermillion - The University of South Dakota in case anyone is THAT curious). From all accounts, USD is doing really well! They have multiple new buildings since I was last year, and they've made other major improvements. Plus the main student center has a fucking Chik Fil A, Chipotle, AND Einstein's Bagels. I sent a lot of "wtf" messages to my college BFF because we had NONE of that when we were students. Anyway, then we had the best sandwiches ever at my favorite local cafe (that's now inside an Ace hardware because the grocery store it was in shut down - thanks Wal Mart). And then before we left we made a visit to the National Music Museum. It is seriously a hidden treasure - they have instruments from way way back in early history, instruments from around the world, instruments owned and played by famous people and musicians (like one of Bill Clinton's saxophones and one of Elvis' guitars). It really is incredible. We spent the night in Kansas City. I was not impressed with the bbq.
Friday we drove all day and then stopped in Chattanooga, TN for the night. We spent Saturday morning going to the aquarium there, which is just as nice as the Georgia Aquarium even if it isn't as big. I really love the way they do all their exhibits - I think it looks more natural and less....I dunno, gimicky than the GA Aquarium. After we were done there we went home!
@labro it sounds like an awesome trip! I'm a sucker for all the family history stuff and would have loved that. Also, can't wait to see the dresser once you're done restoring it!
@eilis1228 I stressed for 2 weeks about rain on my wedding day. I made myself sick in the stomach over it because I was just so adamant that I HAD to have the exact photos that I envisioned with the mountains in the background. And you guessed it- it rained. I had to call everyone the night before and tell them to go directly inside the venue and I didn't get the pics I wanted. But hey all my pics got lost anyways so that didn't end up mattering. And I really didn't give a shit on my wedding day, I felt so beautiful and happy that really a tornado could have come through and I wouldn't have noticed lol. You will have an amazing time!
I woke up this morning feeling awful, so I called my boss to say I'd be late. After drinking some gingerale during my morning meeting I feel almost human again though.
Friday there was an event at the museum, there's an origami exhibit going on and one of the artists was there to give a presentation and a walk-through, it was SUPER cool, he was talking about how much math is in origami and how he made a computer program that basically turns stick figures into foldable base patterns. I can't even fold a dang crane, so I was fascinated. Here's some of the origami Koi:
Saturday I was sitting around my apartment drinking coffee in my underwear when I got a call from a news reporter, they wanted to do a story about me. I agreed to that, and then scrambled to get myself presentable and to clean my apartment so that it was also presentable. My dad came over too, and we got interviewed and all that. Fun part is it turns out I had met the reporter before, but neither of us could make the connection until I name dropped BF. Turns out we had met at a synagogue event a few weeks back.
After that I chilled for a little bit before going over to BFs so we could get ready for a Halloween party. The party was a lot of fun, although I was in respiratory distress half the time because several party guests were chain smoking. We were outside on a deck and still it was like there was a wall of cigarette smoke out there. I loved that BF was so in character all night, it was super funny to watch.
@untouchablets I agree with the PPs on the issue with your BF. It really does help to sit down and explain that you just need to vent and don't need feedback or opinions unless you request them. I've had that discussion with BF and it seriously helped both of us.
@MissKittyDanger It drives me nuts when people can't get past drama. The situation with your BFs friend's breakup sounds insane... mainly the fact they broke up and are still going to live together? Awkward fo sho.
@eilis1228Awesome with the kitchen cleaning! I really need to do that. Boo on the rain forecast, but that umbrella is cute! Makes me think of Mary Poppins in the park.
@speakeasy14 That bacon/funnel cake stuff sounds AWESOME. New events always have growing pains, hopefully they work out the kinks and fix it for next year!
@wink0erin It's even more awkward than just that. She ended things because she decided she isn't bi-sexual, she's a lesbian and she met a girl. {hence the reason for the split} Apparently now she's turned into raging bitch. He was saying all the stuff she's done, and it's just like "wow, seriously?" Only living together until December at least.
Those fish! Omg! I thought they were real and had to re-read to see they were origami!!
@untouchablets - BF actually has to do the whole "I'm just venting" thing with me on a pretty regular basis. I like to fix everything, and I always have to come up with some way to "help." It always makes it better when he tells me first, "I'm just venting, and I need you to just listen this time, okay?"
Morning everybody! I hope everybody's doing well this morning.
I had a rough weekend. I'm sure some of you have seen the story about the crash at the homecoming parade that killed 4 people (including a 2 year old)...that's my school. So I spent Saturday morning making sure all my friends were okay and trying to deal with the fact that this happened and I was so far away from home and all I wanted to do was go up to campus and just be there mourning with everybody else. Luckily, everyone I know is okay.
Saturday night I decided I was sick of sitting around at home being sad, so I showered and took myself out to have some hookah and a glass of wine. I sat at the bar and read a book and joked with the owner of the place (an older Iranian man who has hilarious thoughts about life). It was a really lovely time. I didn't want to walk the 2 miles back home by myself, so I called a cab. And this is where my whole day went to hell, because I proceeded to throw up, in the back of the cab, all over myself, the cab, and my brand new Kate Spade purse. I have no idea why this happened...I wasn't drunk (2 glasses of wine over the course of 3 hours!), I had eaten (nothing new or weird). The only thing I could think of might be the hookah, but I smoke hookah fairly regularly, and I've been to this place several times before and have never had a problem.
Anyway. I spent yesterday sitting on the couch nursing my wounded pride. Because what else was I going to do? BF and I argued (over iMessage, because that's the only way we have to talk regularly while he's gone), so that made me more cranky. We're fine now, but I just hate arguing with him, especially while he's gone. So I went to bed early and cuddled with the dog.
And so thus far, Monday is a vast improvement on my weekend!
@labro - Awwww, I hope your dog is doing okay! I got super pissed at one lady in the pet store walking her dog around that was NON-STOP COUGHING. Something is obviously wrong with your dog, lady. Don't take it in public. And I was also mad the employees were just letting it happen. . . In other news, I saw that Ozzy was at Mount Rushmore last week! Did you run into him?!?
@eilis1228- That is such a bummer about moving the wedding inside! Who knows, though. Maybe the weather gods will have mercy on you.
I had a great weekend visiting my family! It's such an annoying-ly long drive though. And a good chunk is two lane highway with few passing zones, so it gets super irritating.
On Saturday I went with my dad, little sister, and BF for a hike. We took the kayaks across a lake, then hiked up to a cave in the cliffs. This gives you an idea of the area I grew up in:
It's not green or particularly beautiful, but the geology is amazing. Doesn't look like farm country, does it? After that we met with my mom and older sister for lunch, then we all hung out and watched the Nebraska game and drank homebrew. We also decided to draw names for Christmas presents this year, which is going to be SO NICE because now BF and I only have to buy 2 presents instead of 7 so we can get them nicer things. All the grandkids/nieces/nephews are fair game, though. Everyone likes to spoil them.
We didn't get home until 6 last night, and I caught up on some work while we watched Family Guy. The weekend goes by way too fast when you spend so much time driving. It really sucks.
@labro - OH NO! Poor Cinders! Vibes for a speedy recovery!! Also, that arbor is beautiful! Maybe you can start renting out your backyard for weddings?? And I totally believe what you're saying about the invites. I can't believe I'll be mailing them out in 4 weeks!!
@peaseblossom55 - Vibes for your week!! Praying everything goes as smoothly as possible for you.
@minskat30 - Feel better soon!! Also did I miss updates on Friday about the doctor's appointment?
@speakeasy14 - Oh my god that funnel cake sounds AMAZING!!! Also agree about BFs/FIs/Hs having to work weekends. It sucks.
@eilis1228 - I might be close to my wedding, but it's your WEDDING WEEK!!!!!!!!! So you win. I'm sorry about the weather. You are definitely keeping a good perspective about it, but you're still allowed to be bummed and complain about it to us. Regardless you will be MARRIED in a few days!!!!!
@twodimes - I don't have a picture of FI in the tux, but this one is really similar. His vest/tie will be ivory to match my dress, the groomsmen will be in charoal vests/ties, and the dads and officiant will be in black vests/ties. Ignore his funny face....he did not like this particular vest.
OH that reminds me of a WR question....the lady at Men's Wearhouse suggested everyone except FI wear off white shirts instead of plain white. She said the plain white could make my dress look dingy in pictures. Has anyone else heard this/done this? Thoughts?? TIA!
@jenjen047 H & groomsmen got their tuxes from Men's Wearhouse. My dress was ivory almost a yellowish tinge to it, very antique looking. H wanted the white shirts, H got the white shirts. The pictures looked gorgeous. The tuxes were gray and the white looked much better with them anyway.
@jenjen047 - I've heard that too...but I sort of think it's bunk. I don't think that any shirt (especially not one worn under a jacket) is going to make a wedding gown look dingy.
@peaseblossom55@futuremrshistorian - Thanks! Yeah I did NOT like the way the off white shirts looked with the charcoal grey vests so there is no way we are doing that.
Also @futuremrshistorian - So sorry to hear about what happened back home. I'm glad everyone you know is OK.
In one hour I'll be sitting with my boss giving her my notice. My stomach hurts. Have I mentioned I've never quit a job before? I'm so nervous!!! If this was a big corporate thing or a huge office I might not feel this way, but I work in a small store with a small staff... there are many ways this could go. And nobody has an idea I'm doing it. I feel like I should have let it slip to someone so my boss could be prepared.
@jenjen047 - Thank you. I put an update on the Friday Fun thread with a picture of the lil' nugget. All went well...we saw the heartbeat and baby looks good!
@futuremrshistorian - Were you ok after throwing up? Could you have caught a short-lived bug? I'm sorry you weren't feeling well (and also sorry about the purse).
@minskat30 - Yes, I was perfectly fine! That was the strangest part. I actually went in my apartment, grabbed my cleaning supplies, and cleaned out the cab (the driver just sort of sat there stunned, and I felt so bad), then threw my clothes in the washer, and had a cup of tea and went to bed. And...I managed to save the purse! It miraculously only got on the outside, which is leather, so I was able to wipe it right down and rescue it!
By far the weirdest being sick experience I have ever had.
@mrsfuturehistorian Sounds like a rough weekend Glad you're feeling better now.
@jenjen047 I'd do whatever you want regarding the shirts. My mom wanted to know if H was going to wear an ivory shirt to match my dress and I thought an ivory/off white shirt would look dingy. I honestly don't even know if I could tell the difference between a white and off white shirt but I told the guys to wear white shirts with whatever grey or blue suit they wanted. I'm not one too care too much about matching and I think people get too caught up in things looking perfect. Your dress is not going to look dingy!
@jenjen047 I've honestly never heard that about white shirts and wedding dresses. Then again, my dress is ivory and has some "cappuccino" tulle underneath the lace, soooo the white may not have been an issue for me. Honestly though, I really can't imagine white shirts underneath a tux will have much of an effect on how your dress photographs.
@speakeasy14 Ahhhh those pics are pretty great! Our poor photographer is going to catch pneumonia making us look like models in the rain! :-P
@jenna8984 I'm pretty laid back about the weather right now. I'm doing my best not to make myself sick with worry over anything at this point because it's all out of my hands. I've prepped as best I can for Friday, and all I can do is sit back and adapt to whatever comes our way this week. It is what it is, and I'm sure on my wedding day I won't care at all what happens. Plus, we're going to have a great party afterwards. I've got a garage filled with booze, a great DJ, a cool photo booth, and tons of candy and popcorn for the reception. Oh, and some AMAZING cake! All I can do at this point is trust the judgment of the venue owner and roll with the punches. And who knows, if the weather forecast changes by Thursday, we may be able to set up the outdoor ceremony area anyway.
@AlPacina Gorgeous! It doesn't even look like the US! What a beautiful area!
@futuremrshistorian Oh no! I'm so sorry you threw up! FI read some article about how smoking anything can cause vomiting. Originally I thought it would be fun if he and his GMs went to a cigar bar Friday before getting ready, but he did some research and saw that smoking ANYTHING can lead to vomiting, especially when mixed with alcohol, so he nixed that idea pretty quickly. I'm so sorry that you had to experience that first hand, in the cab, on your new purse, and after such a crappy day. I really hope everyone you knew at your school is OK! That lady is an asshat.
Much knit-flixing this weekend. I cleared two short TV series off my queue (Wildest ___ - I am that dork who watches nature documentaries), finished the cream baby blanket, and made three headbands and a hat. I won my fantasy football match-up, leaving me at 6-1 and probably in first place in the league. H left a message with the plumber; I haven't heard back, but that doesn't mean they haven't called him.
H and I were tiffy all weekend - maybe it's something in the air right now? We didn't do anything special for our seven-year dating anniversary. I ended up telling him he should go hang out with his friends for a while on Friday and Saturday so we didn't have a really bad fight (one where I would say things I would regret, and he was going to hang out with them anyway). I hope we clear the air soon between us. I hate bickering with him.
@twodimes - Those pictures look great and I can't tell what color the guys' shirts are. So maybe it's not a big deal either way? The one she showed us in the store was VERY off white....almost yellowy. FI was not a fan either and since they're his guys I'll let him make the final call, but 99% sure he will go with white. Also yeah she recommended off white for everyone except FI because FI is wearing an ivory vest/tie.
@KeptInStitches 1. I love that Knit-flixing is a thing now! 2. I'm sorry you and your H were tiffy all weekend. That really sucks. I hope you guys are able to work it out tonight!
