@jenna8984 I absolutely say keep the chest and restore it! You can try to strip/sand the paint off but do some research before doing anything. I dunno...my family has very few actual heirlooms and IMO sometimes that stuff is kind of important...especially if it looks nice and is made with good quality materials that last. It would make an excellent toy chest for your son! My grandparents gifted each of their granddaughters with an antique hope chest when they turned 16 and I know I wouldn't sell mine for the world!

hahahaha so true! It's a really good thing that we have very minimal contact!! Haven't seen that aunt in 5 years because she's too high on all her prescription drugs.

Our IT guy has been known to remote in and control our computers sometimes while we're working. It took me a solid 15 minutes to edit that in paint after the senior pastor had walked in) and the whole time my heart was pounding.

Now "cervix diagram" and "donald trump big penis gif" are stuck in my google search history!

@swazzle @labro here's the chest. I can't lift the A/C off the top so I couldn't get a pic of the blue inside! If we use as a toy box, we'd probably have to remove the lid because it's really heavy and will practically break your hand if you drop it.

@jenna8984 - HOLY HELL THAT PAINT.

It is really, really awesome otherwise! I definitely still vote to keep it and refinish it. I think you can buy special hinges to attach to the inside so that it closes slowly without slamming on tiny little fingers.

My parents have a chest like that. My mom's dad passed away 3 years before I was born, and she keeps all of his things in it... like the flag they got at his funeral, his military uniform, etc. She actually has it under a table behind the sofa, so it doesn't get in the way.

You could also go another way, and possibly paint it (maybe with chalk paint) or refinish it and put some cushions on the top and use it as a reading bench or something in your LO's room. I would store things that we don't use often in it. I'm all about storage!! It also looks nice at the end of the bed if you have room. I would LOVE to have a piece of furniture like that, except we have a very small house and it wouldn't fit at the end of our bed. I would definitely use it in the baby's room, though.

Ideas:
