Hello, long lost friends! It feels like forever since I've been on here.
I took Thursday off to go to Houston with my cousin and aunt to look at wedding dresses at BHLDN. We didn't find a dress, but we did find 2 really great options that she's considering. She doesn't have a venue yet, so there's no rush to get a dress. We had lunch at a really cute restaurant, but it ended up being $100 for all three of us! Yeesh! Kind of ridiculous for two salads and a sammich, but whatevs. It was a really fun girls' trip, and I really enjoyed spending that time with my cousin and aunt.
On Friday H and I took the day off to have a staycation/date day. We went to the local natural sciences museum, had lunch at our favorite Indian restaurant, and went to see The Jungle Book. We vegged at home the rest of the night and did absolutely nothing. It was fabulous.
On Saturday we drove out to the corgi breeder's ranch (it was like 2 hours away) and played with corgi puppies! They have visitation days for every litter so that people on the waitlist and people getting puppies from that litter can see the ranch, interact with the puppies, meet the sires and mommas, and get a feel for everything. We had so much fun! We were originally on the waitlist for a female Pembroke corgi, but we switched to the Cardigan waitlist and have requested a male puppy. We should be offered one in the fall or winter. H has decided to name him Rex lol. Here are a few pics of the 6-week-old Cardigan corgi pupper dogs:
Adorable little furballs!
Yesterday we did chores around the house and vegged. I watched A LOT of Parenthood and worked on a baby quilt. Fun times.
Today should be pretty crazy. I have a lot of work to catch up on from being out (80 emails!), and then I have to pack tonight. I will likely work late yet again... worked until 9pm two nights in a row last week. I'm at a conference in Houston Tuesday - Friday this week. I'm not looking forward to it, but it probably won't be that bad. The weather is supposed to be gross, so I'll have to take the shuttle every day instead of walking, and I'm scheduled to work the booth the entire time instead of having tons of meetings like I normally do. Lots of sitting on my butt doing nothing and trying to work on an iPad. Oh well.
I will reply to everyone in a separate post... this one is pretty long. Sorry for the novel!
@Swazzle I'm a firm believer that some of the best restaurants are hidden! @southernpeach89 Sounds like a very productive weekend...but poor Callie's head @cocobellaf yay for 3rd trimester! @labro wow! can't wait to see the after pictures! @twodimes I LOVED your bike pic! I look really scary on a bike, like people's faces cringe as I ride by. @beachyone15 no more hail! @minskat30 Grrrr. I'm so sorry that happened...I would have hit her for you (the hoop earrings would come off) @speakeasy14 mmm pizza stuffed pretzels sound worth it. But I agree, not a fan of the inflated prices.
Good morning everyone. I am off for the week and it feels amazing. Lots of friends/family are at the marathon today. I think this is the 4th year I have said no to going along. Even if it is super nice out, like it is today.
My weekend was filled with baby celebrations. On Saturday I went to a 1st birthday party and there were hardly any other kids there. There were about 80 people there, so it just seemed a little weird because I know many of the people there have kids. I'm just used to seeing kids at kid birthday parties. Saturday night I met up with my college BFF and we drove down to the beach (my tires hit the sand!) and had dinner at an awesome dive bar. The patio was open and the view was amazing. Wish I took a pic!
Sunday morning I had a baby shower for one of my friends from grad school. It was a road trip getting there, half highway half crazy windy back roads. I'm guessing that's why none of my other grad school friends went. I ended up sitting with her mom and family, since so few of her friends showed up. It was nice and I felt even better about going for my friend. After all is said and done, still no baby fever here.
Today I plan on writing an evaluation report and taking a walk outside. I'm going to have dinner by the water later since it's actually going to be 70 today. No more snow.
@Swazzle Two books in one day?! You are a BAMF! Sounds like the perfect day. I'm with @southernpeach89-- scary movies make me too paranoid, so I don't watch them much. I get freaked out way too easily and think every noise is a murderer/rapist trying to break in.
@southernpeach89 Awww, I'm glad you and your H got to spend some quality time together this weekend. Sorry that Callie had trouble sleeping for 2 nights in a row-- hopefully you don't have issues the rest of the week!
@CocoBellaF YAY third trimester! Your pregnancy is flying by! K will be here so soon!
@labro YAY your bathroom is demoed! So exciting! What is the estimated completion date for everything?
@TwoDimes You and your H are the cutest, I swear. Bike riding and gelato?! Could you guys be any more perfect?! I think not. I also love that you're a creeper on TCF.
@lavenderfields13 I'm sorry you guys haven't had any luck with the open houses What's your ETA on getting your credit scores in line so you can start seriously looking one-on-one with your realtor? Also, I haven't read Horns, but I saw the movie last year and REALLY liked it. It was so different from what I thought it would be. I didn't realize the book was that much different. I'll add it to my list of books to read!
@cu97tiger I loooooooove Stag's Leap! It's one of my favorites. I'm glad it wasn't rotten! Also, I'm sending out that Fitbit today, I promise. Sorry for being so late with it. I didn't anticipate taking off two days last week, and it threw me off for the whole week.
@beachyone15 UGH so sorry about MORE hail and thunderstorms! Texas weather is insane this year. We've had so much hail... it's ridiculous. I'm glad you were able to save the ribs and move the party!
@minskat30 I'm sorry your family focuses so much on your sister. That is so rude of them to ditch you when you put the whole event together and were so thoughtful of everyone else. Ani will be perfect and beautiful. I can't believe your sister would say otherwise-- that is so tacky and unnecessary! I also have no idea what she means about your H's nose because I've seen pics of you two, and both of you could be models. Ani will be a heart breaker for sure.
@speakeasy14 I hope Little Miss comes out ASAP! I'm cracking up at the guy being afraid to massage your sister's legs and feet. I probably would be too.
@500days, enjoy your week off! --- Friday night I worked late. Saturday I stayed home and spent the day with H. We didn't get much done, though. Sunday I worked while H gamed.
I guess this weekend just wasn't that fascinating, to be honest.
@TwoDimes@speakeasy14 Me either! This litter had like 6 merle pups too, which is kind of rare. One had two blue eyes, and the rest had one blue and one brown. They were gorgeous! Unfortunately H isn't a fan of the merle coats. He fell in love with the black and white pup.
@500days Enjoy your week off! I'm jealous! Your weekend sounds fabulous, especially the trip to the beach. I wish you had taken a pic-- sounds perfect!
@eilis1228 - Glad you are hanging in there! I was thinking about you since the weather always seems to be worse up north of us. And those baby corgis!!! I clearly NEED one.
@beachyone15 This week all the bad weather has been south of us. We've just had tooooooooons of rain. We're estimated to have 6 inches of rain before tomorrow. My coworker said parts of Houston have already flooded, so hopefully we have no delays or issues this week when we're there. El Nino springs are horrible. I just hope we don't have the crazy floods this year like we had last year. Your area got hit especially hard last year with those floods. So scary!
@Swazzle LOL at trash picking! I've had friends get some awesome stuff by doing that! #CocobellaF YAY THIRD TRIMESTER!!! AW the chandelier? @TwoDimes Bike riding is so fun! I have a bike that is still at my parents house. I look forward to bringing it to my place and riding again. It's kind of hard to find places to ride a bike around here that don't have traffic though! @minskat30 Man your sister sounds rude! I woulda considered throwing the baby things at her. @MissKittyDanger So sorry about your mom's friend @eilis1228 OMG CORGI BABIES!!!
My weekend was pretty grand. Friday evening BF and I decided to go get food so we went to our normal place for grilled cheeses. It was a good chill evening.
Saturday was action packed. Went over to the ballpark for a beerfest + baseball game which was followed by a band playing. We got there early to snag our first beers and get good seats. At the same event last year I got royally sunburnt so I'm glad I remembered to bring sunscreen. I got some sun but didn't burn. Yay! One of my friends joined us and some other friends stopped by, it was a grand time. Once the game ended the concert began, which was a ton of fun. My friend group was front and center and dancing around while most other people stood and bobbed their heads and gave us sideeye. Speaking of acting a fool, during the game I started dancing in my seat to some song, looked over and noticed I was on the Jumbotron. I kept dancing and then waved at the camera. hahahaha
Midway through the concert BF and I had to hightail it out because we had to get to the symphony! We waited until the last minute to leave the ballpark which gave us only about an hour to clean up and change into symphony attire. We got there right on time and it was really a great concert. After that we were starving so we got some junk food.
Sunday I planned to do nothing but laundry. Midday I was thinking I should mow the grass, so I looked outside to see how bad it was and noticed my grass looked recently trimmed. I was kind of confused and my first thought was maybe the deer ate a LOT of grass... but I looked out front and saw my whole front hillside had been mowed too. That's when I made the connection that my neighbor mowed it for me. I went out to pull some weeds and talked with my neighbors a bit, thanked them for helping with mowing. I feel like just saying "thanks" isn't enough. What does NEY think? Is there something I could do to let them know how much I appreciated the gesture?
After pulling weeds and some dead stuff out of my flower bed I went to Lowe's and bought some plants. The azalea bushes out front are starting to form buds and I think they are all the white kind. The bright pink are my favorite so I got a couple to fill in a couple big bare spots. Also got some peonies to plant. Hopefully next weekend I can put everything in the ground!
This post is so long. Congrats to anyone who read it. haha!
@TwoDimes You just described my H perfectly. He had the exact same thoughts about the merles. I thought they were all stunning. Is this not the prettiest dog ever?
They are more expensive than the others and have a longer waitlist, but since we're in no rush to get another pup, I wouldn't mind. I don't want my H to be creeped out by the dog though, so I said a black and white pup was fine by me.
@wink0erin That is really nice of your neighbors! Do you know them well enough to know hobbies? Do they drink wine? I would definitely give them a giftcard to a restaurant or a nice bottle of wine if they drink. Sounds like you are in a great neighborhood.
@wink0erin Aren't they the cutest things ever?! I emailed the breeder the next day to let her know how much we enjoyed playing with the pups, and she actually thanked me for coming out and playing with them! hahaha I was like, "No, really, it was my pleasure! Thank YOU!" Re: your neighbors-- that is the sweetest thing ever. I would bake something as a thank you. Maybe cookies or something. You could even do a lasagna or casserole.
I'm glad the consensus is hitting my sister is ok. Kidding, obviously, as I love her but sometimes she is pretty negative. I think one good swat with at least the soft winter stroller cover I bought her would have done her some good. I'll visualize it and laugh at least.
@eilis1228 - OMG those puppies! I'm so excited for you to get another puppy. Seriously, they are adorable. As to the comments, my H is really sensitive about his nose since its on the bigger side of the scale. He's been saying the whole pregnancy how he hopes Ani doesn't get his nose (including in front of my sister) so for it to be her first comment was just rude....thankfully H wasn't around so I told her to shut up about it before he came in. I'm second guessing having her in the labor room at all at this point (I was her labor partner (her H was too but didn't know what to do half the time) and she promised to be mine a long time ago but (a) she is high risk in her pregnancy and I honestly don't think she could stand that long/help me up and about/sleep at the hospital like I did and (b) like I said above, she is really negative sometimes). Thankfully, H is going to be well trained on being a labor partner after this class we are taking is done.
@500days - I'm picturing the earrings coming off now and laughing out loud. No baby fever is a-ok...you have plenty of time for whatever you guys end up deciding. I hope you had several drinks on the beach, including one for me.
@wink0erin last year our neighbor had a landscaper at their house. The guy mowed our lawn and told my bf he remembered what it was like to have his first home and refused to take any kind of payment. We looked up how much it would cost and put that money aside. We decided to use the money to pay it forward. For your neighbor, maybe help them out with something?
@eilis1228 Sounds like you had a great weekend, dress shopping, date day and puppies! H opened the dispute with his credit card company in March and they have 30 days to review it- 30 days is up on Thurs and he still hasn't heard anything back yet. We were hoping he would win the dispute and then the company will report it to the credit bureaus so we will see the change at the beginning of May. If they don't remove it I'm going to be pissed but his score went up in April anyways so hoping it will go up again in May even if he doesn't win the dispute so it will be right at a "good" score by then. So basically we're hoping for the beginning of May!
@minskat30 Your sister sounds really insecure and jealous, honestly. I agree that it's probably best to have your H as your labor partner given your sister's high-risk pregnancy and her negativity. You will need a partner who can 100% support you physically and emotionally, and I think your H will be a much better candidate. I'm sorry you had such a rough weekend with your family. I really hope her attitude changes once Ani is here!
@wink0erin That was so nice of your neighbors. I would probably want to do something for them too but would probably also be asking for suggestions because I'm no good at that stuff lol
@lavenderfields13 Well that's annoying that they are waiting until the last minute, but May will be here before you know it! I can't believe it's already April 18-- where did April go?! I'm so excited for you guys! I hope you have much better luck in a few weeks when you can hopefully start looking one-on-one with your realtor. Sending you tons of vibes!
@minskat30 BF is sensitive about his nose too. He said if/when we have kids he hopes they don't get his nose! I keep telling him it's one of the things I like most about his face.
@speakeasy14 All I have is a push mower and they know that (and have probably seen me struggling with it, haha). I like the pay-it-forward idea! I'm afraid of food gifts since I don't know if they have any food allergies.
@TwoDimes TOTALLY understandable! The adult dogs with kids thing is one of the reasons we are opting to get a second puppy within the next year... that way they will be grown by the time we want babies (timeline for kiddos is to start trying in 2 years at the earliest). The second reason was we noticed that Zoey seems a lot happier and better behaved when she plays with other dogs. Her foster home had a ton of pups, and she just lights up and gets so excited when she runs into her friends at the dog park and goes to play at doggie day care. We started feeling guilty, so we decided to get one next year when she's a little older.
@labro Yes, it's spring break here! Thankfully the weather has been very nice, it's usually hit or miss. And then it's seven and a half weeks until FREEDOM!
