FFIL's male dog isn't neutered.  Just like Roxy's pup, he's always leashed or supervised, and honestly, he's fine.  Great dog.  Has energy (not an obnoxious amount)... I have no problem with people like Roxy and FFIL whose dogs are au natural but not getting into any trouble.
  • And I see nothing wrong with a few sips of wine here and there while pregnant.

I see where you're coming from Vegas, but the beauty of "I judge" threads is that it's never the same thing twice. It's a bitchfesting opportunity for whatever is bothering you that day or in general. Especially if the board is dead or lame, this is the type of thread that will get people to talk. Because really, who can't think of something that they judge, even on a small level?

That said, did we ever assign a day for I judge threads? Like Confessions or something? Just an idea.

  • Cew, you know I've always wondered about that though... Like do people really judge the things they report on, or were they prompted to think of something from their day and take a stand on it so they could frame it as an "I judge?" I know in many cases there are legit sides (like the drinking while pregnant debate), but I wonder if people really "judged" the person who cut them off today on the road when it happened, or if they did it in hindsight for the benefit of bitching about it here. AND, are "judging" and "disliking" the same thing? I feel like I'm not making any sense here and I'm rambling about social psych ideas.

Anyway, I'm not disagreeing with you, just elaborating on a thought that you made me think. And now I've thunk.
In Response to Re: I judge... : My thoughts exactly.  I work for a company with no dress code.  When I was hired it was with the expectation that I would wear business casual attire, but I'm the only person at my company with any sort of expectation like that.  Some of my coworkers come in every day in sweat pants.
    Posted by betrothed123
Same here. I usually wear business casual, as do most of the other women in our office. The only guys who DON'T wear jeans a t-shirts and the sales guys. The only things we're not allowed to wear are shorts and flip flops, but they aren't really strict... most offices in SoCal are like this, though.

And I think it's a weird thing to judge. Most parents treat day care like "school" because at good child care centers, children are socialized and learn things in a developmentally appropriate way. So what if they take a day off from work and do things around the house/run errands/go out to lunch with friends rather than keeping their kid home with them?

  • That's a great point, BG. Maybe I just have a different frame of reference for the whole idea of judgement. I just feel like there was a lot of judgment of parenting in this thread in particular and it just kind of turned me off.
  • Aw, sorry Cew. I can definitely see getting turned off by debates on topics that are close to home. Definitely not the same as complaining about traffic. Which is good, because I'm likely to bitch about traffic in the near future. ;) Honestly though, I tend to glaze over most "serious" judgments in these threads, especially ones that turn into debates. It's not that I'm apathetic, but I'm like you: I don't want to know who thinks these things.

Sadpants. My FI really wants a suburu. Fr multiple reasons: 1) it gets good enough mpg that he can use it for commuting, 2) it's easy to transport his kayaks on the roof, and 3) it can handle the dirt roads and trails that his current Saturn SL2 cannot. He's had a dream of visiting the racetrack in Death Valley for years and years - but it's about 20 miles of rough dirt road to get out there.

Also, my friend had a 4 oz glass of wine (1/2 cup) every other week during the 3rd trimester of each of her 2 pregnancies, and her kids are fine. Her doctor ok'd it.
In Response to Re: I judge... : I judge that too. It really irks me though that people constantly get on us about getting Quincy neutered. He is with us at all time, we walk him and he's never off a leash. There's no risk of him impregnating some dog. Why do I have to get him neutered? I like him just the way he is with all his bits. Um, on the other hand, I do kind of want to get it done to seee if it helps calm him down.
    Posted by nda_roxybabe
But mistakes can happen. He COULD escape. My cats never go outside and have never accidentally gotten outside, but I still have collars with tags with their names and FI and my phone numbers, just in case they DO get outside.

I guess I don't see why you wouldn't unless you have a compelling reason not to - like, you're a licensed and experienced breeder. Actually, I think many places (shelters, rescues, even some breeders) require you to have your dogs and cats fixed. The city of LA actually requires it, unless you're a breeder.

I DO judge people who aren't breeders who buy pure bred dogs and don't get them fixed cause, "we're going to breed puppies, so Rex here can earn his keep." How exceedingly ignorant.
I<strong>m way late but I actually think getting trashed at the beginning of your pregnancy is way worse than having a glass of wine or a beer here and there towards the end of your pregnancy, I dont think its something to just shrug off because you "didnt know". </strong>I also dont think having a drink here and there while youre pregnant is bad, there can be certain things in the drink that are good for you (iron in guiness?), and if the doc says ok then whats the problem. I also dont think its such a horrible thing for moms to still smoke during pregnancy - my mom did her entire pregnancy with me because she was a heavy smoker to begin with and the doctor told her flat out it could put stress onthe baby if she tried to quit. Im of the minority though and I dont see smoking as a big deal, i live with 2 heavy smokers and it doesnt bother me in the least. Sure there might be negative repercussions in my heath in the future, but many things could cause health issues so its kind of a gamble we take day to day.
    Posted by Nebb
<div>
</div><div>I need to clarify. In my case, there was no "shrugging off." I didn't know I was pregnant, so I went out and had drinks with my friends. That's normal. When I found out I was pregnant I felt horrible and was extremely worried that I'd hurt the baby. The doctor assured me that the baby was fine and that it is very well protected at that point in the pregnancy.

  • Mery- Yea, I suppose he could get loose but the chances of that are incredibly slim. I feel like its an unfair thing to impose on a responsible dog owner. I think it can be unnecessary too.
  • I don't think it's unfair to impose. I think it would both help stop the overpopulation program and help encourage responsible ownership. If you can't afford the cost of a spay/neuter, then you probably can't afford the cost of emergency vet care either. Thus, you aren't financially ready to have a pet.
I think it would be very beneficial to have everyone but licensed breeders have their dogs spayed/neutered.
