Trying to defend bigotry and sexism as "religious freedom" is the most shining, glowing, blatant example of polishing a turd I have ever seen.

You (general you) can't pass a law blatantly discriminating against a portion of the population and then pull out some book written who knows when by who knows what and point to some outdated, poorly translated passage and say "Gays be bad because I want skycake".

I keep my opinion  about other people's religion to myself until it is shoved down my throat and up my nose.  Then you get hear EXACTLY what I think.

The really irritating part is that in the partnerships portion, the directives acknowledges that certain partnerships might make them the only healthcare facility in a region, and therefore denying patients care they don't provide could leave the patients SOL.

The general response to that is

Well if we'd just stop gaying it up we wouldn't have this problem. And duh, you can totally stop gaying it. Just be celeibte. Forever. Ask a catholic priest for guidance on how to do that.

Hey guys I accidentally lied to you. I didn't realize this until today but the hospitals in my area are no longer owned by the Catholic Church, they just kept the names so people wouldn't get confused.

Yeah, I think we have a similar deal going on here.

We only have one Catholic hospital that I'm aware of.

Wait, just got on wikipedia, apparenlty they revoked that hospital's catholic...standing because they performed an abortion on a woman who would die without one.

The hospital in late 2009 had as a patient a mother of four who was 11 weeks pregnant and suffering from a severe case of pulmonary hypertension. Doctors estimated that her chance of dying if she continued the pregnancy was "close to 100 percent".[7] An ethics board approved an abortion to save the life of the mother, even though the hospital was Catholic and within the Diocese of Phoenix. A religious sister, Sister Margaret Mary McBride, who was a vice president at the hospital and who concurred in the decision, was excommunicated by Thomas Olmsted, the Bishop of Phoenix.[8] The case stirred intense debate from within and outside the area. McBride was later returned to good standing with the church, her religious community, and the hospital.[9]

Bishop Olmsted asked Catholic Healthcare West to provide a moral analysis of the case. He later issued a decree on 21 December 2010 revoking the hospital's affiliation with the Catholic Church, after months of discussion had failed to induce the hospital management to refuse to perform similar abortions in the future. Olmsted wrote that he could not verify that the hospital provides health care consistent with "authentic Catholic moral teaching."

Urgh. Tidbit's hospital is still Catholic. Part of Ascension Health. That makes me squicky.

Most of our hospitals seem to be part of Dignity Health. Which apparenlty has both Catholic and non-Catholic hospitals. But now the one we were worried about turns out is not Catholic anymore...

I mean, letting a kid go home with the homos is participating in a sin right?
    Actually, it's not.
So...this participating in a sin rule seems pretty waffley.

It's participating in a sin for a court clerk to issue a marriage license to a gay couple in a state with legalized gay marriage. Its participating in a sin to sell flowers to a gay couple getting married.

It is not participating in a sin to let a gay couple raise a child though. So we can't get married or fuck, but we can raise kids together. Fucking hell man. I  mean if you want to be a bigot, fine be a bigot, but make the rules consistent.

You haven't even touched upon the whole divorce issue. Getting divorced and then remarried makes you an adulterer. So all of those people helping divorced men and women get remarried are all participating in their sin as well.

So my religion states that Catholics are sinners. So if they come to my place of business, I don't have to provide them service. It's offensive to some people and it means I'm not doing business with a decent portion of the population, but it's my sincerely held religious belief, so what can you do?

Oh, wait, what's that? That's discrimination? Okay, then explain to me how this law isn't a pile of homophobic horseshit.
Maybe catholics should stop buying gas.  Because gas stations sell lotto tickets and lotto=gambling and gambling=sin.  So, if you spend money there, you're financing/aiding/supporting sin.  Oh, and don't go to restaurants where alcohol is served because people might be drunk.  Another sin.  Better check you server's morals before tipping--they might be using that money to buy cocaine and hookers!

Does that sound ridiculous?  It should!
It's meant to be taken in context tho.

That's one of my big complaints here.   So you created a law in the name of religious freedom.  Great!   You DO realize that YOU (general you) can now be refused service in the name of religious freedom right?    It's not just about Christians and the gays.   It can be ANYTHING!!!

I also love that the Church of Cannabis is now a thing in Indiana.

I am a Catholic and I'm pro life but I'm not a fan of the way that a hospital can behave here either.

Yep, everyone here has been excited about that. After 22 years of atheism, I might just find my way back to religion after all.... ;)

Well yeah, and they should never stay in hotels because their money supports the hotel and keeps it in business, but the hotel lets unmarried couples stay in rooms together and commit sins. So.... Really if they abide by the "not aiding in sin" thing across the board as strictly as they abide by it when it hurts gay people, then they pretty much wouldn't be able to function in the world. That's why it's ok to pick and choose based on what's convenient and on their own bigotry.

Well the Catholic Church isn't against drinking or gambling.  The Catholic churches in my home town have bars in their halls.   Gambling?   Yeah there is a lot of gambling going on at church functions.  Bingo anyone?

Go to the St Antony's Italian Festival in Delaware.   Booze is flowing along with the gambling booths.

I'm no longer a Catholic for many reasons.  Being able to drink and gamble without it being a sin is not one of those reasons.

Well they did legalize gay marriage before it was cool to leglalize gay marriage. Slipped his mind about the other stuff.

Grandma gave up alcohol for lent.  Except for Sundays.  Sundays not count.  Which if you count Ash Wednesday to Easter it's 46 days.  So if you take out Sundays it's the 40 days.  So she might be on to something there.

CT signed the gay marriage law before the public voted in that asshat.

I didn't vote for him twice.    I'm still waiting for a new retroactive tax increase but that's a rant for a different thread.

As a Catholic, we have always been fans of the booze.   We believe that Jesus turned water into wine.   Why wouldn't we drink it?!
