I just was looking for a way to let my guests know it is a 20's LOOKING party. My decorations are art deco looking. The venue is in a big old mansion that has been restored to it's original art deco interior. I have a jazz band playing. I don't have great gatsby quotes anywhere, I know what the heck happens in the book. I don't have gangsters with pinstriped suits and tommy guns and flapper girls walking around. I just said those "buzzwords" because thats what people usually associate with the 20's right?

Why do I ever even post in forums. People come to communities for help and advice because they don't know what to do, what is proper, what works and doesn't work. And then when happens? Actually, I'm fairly certain if you go back and look, the first few comments answered your question, which is that it's rude to tell or suggest anything related to attire to your guests. 

I love 1920s themed parties and if I received an invitation that was Art Deco styled, I'd probably give a little 1920s flair all on my own. Because I'm an adult who knows how to dress herself and also likes to have fun. I wouldn't need you to tell me that, I'll do it on my own. 

But the fact of the matter is, this is an etiquette board and it's rude to mention anything even remotely related to attire unless, as I previously mentioned, your wedding is black tie, white tie, or the venue has a dress code. You came to the etiquette board looking for help and advice. We gave that to you. I'm sorry it's not the help and advice you wanted, but we aren't going to tell you to break etiquette.

1) Deleting your OP does nothing but draw attention to the post. Plus, you were quoted, so people can still see what you wrote.

2) If you come to forums looking for advice, it's generally a good idea to lurk a little, look for other threads on the same topic, etc. If you had done that, you would have seen that dress codes on your invites or website (with the exception of black tie, white tie, and anyvenue dress code) are always frowned upon as an etiquette no-no. It sounds like you've even posted on other types of forums and have received similar reactions, so you really should not be surprised.

3) When you say you're having a Gatsby-themed wedding, that will draw a side-eye. Because anyone familiar with the book knows that it's not really a pro-love and marriage storyline. Just seems like an odd theme.

4) Who, exactly, do you believe was trolling you? Blunt =/= trolling or mean.

5) The gif you refer to is my signature. Which means it shows up on everything I post. Not sure if you think it was directed at you, but rest assured it was not. That said, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

That was the best way to DD and prove you're a special snowflake ever!  I love exclamation marks!  Seriously.  Not even being snarky.  The exclamation mark was a surefire way to get me to click - way more effective than the period. 

Can we make a new rule that all SS's that DD have to use the exclamation mark instead of the period? 

And for crying out loud - you don't tell, hint, or otherwise suggest to other adults what they should wear.  Ever.  If you're concerned about your theme, then don't invite people and dress up some mannequins if it's that important to you.  You originally said most of these people are coming from out of town.  I would be pretty ticked if after spending money to travel and having to take time off of work (probably) that I also felt compelled to spend money on a "theme outfit" per your "suggestion".

Any wording about attire is against etiquette. So the answer to your question is that there IS no etiquette friendly wording.

That's why you posted to the etiquette board, correct? Because you care about etiquette. So there's your answer. Now if you care more about a costume party and the 10,000th Gatsby/1920's themed wedding this year, by all means...just make something up. The ruder the better at that point because you're already in bad etiquette territory.

The first time I reported it no one contacted me to tell me it wasn't in violation of TOS even when it clearly is. But I'm guessing pointing out which post would be a TOS violation so whatever.

And when I asked KR and KH to clarify why that wasn't a violation (even though posts exactly like that were) I was met with radio silence (seriously, nothing since Wednesday). Which is, of course, helpful.

I just wanted to clarify for everyone exactly what happened.

The report was responded to in the report thread. @magicink you may have missed seeing it, a response was issued that same day. The response is still there and shows up prior to your second report, the following day and another response was posted on that day. I can PM you the link so you can review it, if it is helpful...obviously I can't share screen shots of your reported post on this thread as it would be a violation.

People may not realize that when they report a post, a new thread is created and responses to that report will be handled in that thread, not in a PM. If you report a post, refer to the thread you created for your response.

Yeah, I was thinking about that rule. How does one know if a post was reported? Will the thread say "reported" or have a mark indicating that it was already reported? Wait till someone mentions they reported it? Have esp and already know it was reported?

The issue of multiples reports stems form a user reporting the same post multiple times, even after being told it was not a violation the user kept reporting it. A warning wasn't issued, just a PM telling the user to knock it off.

If the person reports the same post multiple times, especially after being told it is not a violation, it may result in a warning. If multiple users report the same post bc they deem it a legit violation there's no problem. We appreciate people pointing out real violations, as we don't always have time to read every single post on the community.

Hi! I was that user. I reported the post twice, and the had received no response from my first report so I couldn't be sure anyone had seen it or reviewed it. The first time I reported it no one contacted me to tell me it wasn't in violation of TOS even when it clearly is. But I'm guessing pointing out which post would be a TOS violation so whatever.

And when I asked KR and KH to clarify why that wasn't a violation (even though posts exactly like that were) I was met with radio silence (seriously, nothing since Wednesday). Which is, of course, helpful.

I just wanted to clarify for everyone exactly what happened.

The report was responded to in the report thread. @magicink you may have missed seeing it, a response was issued that same day. The response is still there and shows up prior to your second report, the following day and another response was posted on that day. I can PM you the link so you can review it, if it is helpful...obviously I can't share screen shots of your reported post on this thread as it would be a violation.

People may not realize that when they report a post, a new thread is created and responses to that report will be handled in that thread, not in a PM. If you report a post, refer to the thread you created for your response.

I even missed out on that one time mods were getting stoned. Smoking pot would really make this way more fun.

I don't think non-mods can see any "report thread" though, so unfortunately your point remains nonsense.

The person reporting can see mod and admin comments on the thread they created.

Really? I've reported things before and can't see any threads about the reported posts. My profile shows that I've created more discussions than are visible, so I guess those invisible discussions are reported posts, but I still can't see them. I've modded and administrated on several forums and we've never let people see reported post threads, so this seems highly unusual to me.

Darling, I said ADMINS are paid. KnotRiley and KnotHolly are paid employees of XO Group.

You and all the other MODS are not. No one thinks you are. We do think it is bullshit that the admins, who are paid, bounce and leave the mods who are unpaid to clean up their shit.

Admins=Paid.

Mods=Not paid.

I was under the impression that the person reporting could see the responses on the thread that is created with the report. I never reported a post before becoming a mod so I've never seen it myself but that's what I thought happened. 

So now I'm confused too.

For people who want to see reports they've made, I think you can go into your profile, click on "discussions" and find the report. The title would be whatever the title of the discussion is. 

So for example, if I reported a post in a thread called "She's not planning my bach...do I kick her out?!?!", the discussion should show with that title.
