Re: !

  • Why do people think mods are paid? I have never been compensated by TK. If any of the other mods are getting paid, I want in!
Sorry, let me be more literal:

Based on certain mods' insistence that Everything Is Fine Here, Everything Makes Sense, My Nose Is the Brownest of Them All!, it's amazing to me that they are NOT paid. Because they're acting as if they are, you see.

  • For people who want to see reports they've made, I think you can go into your profile, click on "discussions" and find the report. The title would be whatever the title of the discussion is.

So for example, if I reported a post in a thread called "She's not planning my bach...do I kick her out?!?!", the discussion should show with that title.
Nope. I just went to my profile and clicked on where it says I have 22 discussions. Only 20 threads show up.

Just checked on it (I've reported spam before) and I definitely don't see reports.
  • @Cookie Pusher - I'm not going to clog the thread with more quote trees.

I was under the impression that the person reporting could see the responses on the thread that is created with the report. I never reported a post before becoming a mod so I've never seen it myself but that's what I thought happened.

    So now I'm confused too.
Yeah...I'm still waiting on @PhotoKitty to get me this link. @ShesSoCold do you have this link?

Cause apparently I should have been reading this thread that was created that I don't know about so I'd know when to shut the fuck up with my complaining.

Here's what happens when a non-mod reports a post. You click report, you tippy tappy type your complaint, and then you hit send. And then nothing happens. If you go back you might see the "removed for TOS violation' thingy, or they might banned (if they were spammer) otherwise...you know nothing. So if nothing has happened on the thread it is responaible to assume, someone missed the report. Or maybe you thought you reported it but you didn't. Or maybe you had more information to add. So you report it again. And then you get in trouble. Because that makes all the sense in the world.
  • @CookiePusher and @KeptinStitches - I'm not sure then. I guess I just figured you should be able to see it because the number of discussions and that, for me, reported posts show up as the thread title. But that's probably because I have to review ones from my board.

Isn't speaking negatively about the forums a TOS violation?

As for the theme, does that mean that they shouldn't mow anyone down on their way to the reception?

Maybe their vows will end with "So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."  [fingers crossed!]
But don't report the post because it could have already been reported and then you'll be reported for reporting.

Yeah, I was thinking about that rule. How does one know if a post was reported? Will the thread say "reported" or have a mark indicating that it was already reported? Wait till someone mentions they reported it? Have esp and already know it was reported?

The issue of multiples reports stems form a user reporting the same post multiple times, even after being told it was not a violation the user kept reporting it. A warning wasn't issued, just a PM telling the user to knock it off.

If the person reports the same post multiple times, especially after being told it is not a violation, it may result in a warning. If multiple users report the same post bc they deem it a legit violation there's no problem. We appreciate people pointing out real violations, as we don't always have time to read every single post on the community.
Hi! I was that user. I reported the post twice, and the had received no response from my first report so I couldn't be sure anyone had seen it or reviewed it. The first time I reported it no one contacted me to tell me it wasn't in violation of TOS even when it clearly is. But I'm guessing pointing out which post would be a TOS violation so whatever.

And when I asked KR and KH to clarify why that wasn't a violation (even though posts exactly like that were) I was met with radio silence (seriously, nothing since Wednesday). Which is, of course, helpful.

I just wanted to clarify for everyone exactly what happened.
Butbutbutbut...Photokitty made everything sound SO VERY REASONABLE! (You'd think they were paying her, Christ.)

    I'm shocked!
The report was responded to in the report thread. @magicink you may have missed seeing it, a response was issued that same day. The response is still there and shows up prior to your second report, the following day and another response was posted on that day. I can PM you the link so you can review it, if it is helpful...obviously I can't share screen shots of your reported post on this thread as it would be a violation.

People may not realize that when they report a post, a new thread is created and responses to that report will be handled in that thread, not in a PM. If you report a post, refer to the thread you created for your response.

It sounds reasonable, bc I'm being reasonable. I can stop responding if you prefer. I'm just trying to be helpful and honest. :)
What is the report thread? Where is the report thread? I have never seen a report thread? Anyone else? Anyone know where this report thread is?

Please give me the link to this MAGICAL report thread.

You know what'd be really fucking helpful? If the people in charge (the admins the people paid to run this site) would explaining shit to EVERYONE.
    YGM :)

Yep. This great. Really helpful. Don't abuse the report button but we will never fucking tell you whats going on because no one fucking explained how shit worked to anyone in charge.

Actually it is. For mods/admins at least. Now we know that you actually cannot see things we thought you could and can fix that.
Well, that sucks. Sorry, I was misinformed. The admins were told by tech/developer that was how it works. We honestly thought you guys were seeing them. I even used the @ function to page people to thank them for pointing out vendors. Bummer.

For anyone looking for a translation, all that above? It's pronounced, "Oh shit, we're sorry!" in Mod-ese. I can only assume.
You can interpret it however you want and you don't have to believe me but I have honestly always been under the impression that the person reporting could see mod/admin responses on their posts. I've even been tagging the reporting person to say thanks after banning a spammer, for example.

Hey everyone, I haven't made it to the end of this thread yet, but here goes:

1.Yes that post was a TOS violation. Taken care of now.

    2. Yes you can report posts without fear of getting an official warning. If the moderators feel you are abusing the report button, you will get a PM telling you so. This is not a warning, it is a heads up that if you continue down that road you are going to get one.

  • People, I was the one that said it and I apologized. You can see it at 12:40pm. I was misinformed and passed on incorrect info. We were probably typing at the same time. I should have tagged you, @MagicInk.
    ~xoxo~

  • No sarcasm here - I'm sorry for my misunderstanding. All of us, mods and KGs were told that the reporting person could see comments. I apologize for assuming this was correct and for assuming that users had seen these comments when told they hadn't.

I know this isn't what any of us want to hear, but it was apparently a system problem (is anyone surprised?) that caused the reporter not to see the thread. I cannot fix the error, but I can get around it. I will now be sending PMs to every report I respond to.

I wouldn't be quite as quick to exonerate the KGs if I were you. Sure, the tech team sucks (shit, can I say that? Is stating an apparent fact against the TOS? It's a negative fact, but a fact nonetheless) but that has been known for years. The buck has to stop with the admins.

  • I just need to be real fucking clear about this. I, as a non-mod, cannot see that thread. We just discovered that non-mods can't see these report threads.

It is not my fault I didn't read a thread I couldn't see. Since no one is actually going to apologize to me or admit wrong doing on this thread for others to see.

I'm sorry. I haven't interacted with you, MagicInk, on reports, but, I am sorry that I thought you were ignoring the responses that you couldn't actually see.  We were told that the reporter could see our responses on their specific reports.

We are now asking for an explanation, too.

Seriously? I responded with 15 mins. I was also reading and writing PMs with MI. As well as IRL stuff, I can't sit on TK exclusively.

I think you are looking for things to complain about and doing so over a volunteer mod taking 15 mins to post a reply is pretty petty - or unreasonable.

I don't think I ever used the report button before the most recent dramas went down. Then it did, and when asked "why did x get a warning but not y" and the response was "well because we can't see every post out there, silly head, everything is totally fair as long as you are a responsible citizen and tattle a lot" I started using it a lot, I'm sure much to everyone's annoyance.

I have yet to receive any feedback on my reports one way or the other. I have on the bump, always "this was not a TOU violation" even though it's explicitly a bad thing in the guidelines, which are apparently not the TOU. I have clicked on my own discussions a lot and my reports do not come up.

Sorry, you're right, @Photokitty. Your apology was prompt, and evidently sincere. I didn't mean to direct that particular barb at you; lazy editing on my part.

My bigger beef was with SSC for replying with a piqued "well now we know so I guess it WAS helpful, wasn't it?" instead of being properly chagrined once it became clear that mods had been asked to believe that users were being shitty for "ignoring" responses they never could see.

    I agree.

I'm at work and previously I didn't apologize because I assumed (again, apparently my own fault) that a fix to the problem would be better than "oopsie dilly! Sorry!". Personally I'd rather have a solution than an apology. I didn't know that's what you guys were looking for. I didn't personally issue any warnings to any users, ever, for repeated reportings so I don't even know why anyone would even want an apology from me.

I still don't understand how people can get so upset and so bothered by a place that they frequent voluntarily. I'm not suggesting that anyone should leave, I just know I would if ever. single. thing. about this placed chapped my ass.
