Re: confessions?

  • Dawg, from what I've heard, below 1200 calories is when you start to go into "starvation mode". If you are working out, then you need to eat those calories too. It seems hard to believe, but you might not be eating enough.

  • Bethie- Mrs.Fields delivers you know? They used to be a client of mine at Spa Finder so my boss and I ordered a cookie cake to "try it"- I'm not sure what her rationale was to the CEO as to why we had to order it but whatever. It was like big slices of heaven. I was fat then so I had no problem housing half that cake myself. What was another 8 million calories.
  • Meant to add, WW doesn't really seem to be working for me either anymore. I'm giving the calorie counting a try. Bought a heart rate monitor too to get a better gauge of my workouts.

  • TSD--I saw that, but the shipping was a brazillian dollars. I'm too cheap for that. Oh well.

  • All I use is Sparkpeople and I've managed to take of 20lbs.  I like it a lot. Not to be Debbie Downer, but with all this Chipotle talk I looked up the calorie content and in 1 steak burrito with just the steak and nothing else it is 540 calories...whoa.
  • If you get all the usual fixing on the steak burrito (beans, rice, steak, cheese, sour cream, salsa, etc), it works out to 33 WW points.

  • If you do join WW, it's good to go to a couple of meetings just to really feel like part of the program and be committed, but once you get it, online logging is all you really need. Maybe this hasn't happened to anyone else, but since you need to lose less than 20 lbs. be prepared to be given the side eye a little at meetings.  I think WW is a safe place for some people who feel embarassed otherwise to talk about their issues, so I get it.  I just want to let them know that people can struggle with food issues at all sizes, or be in maintenance mode.

  • I love his hair.  It's long without being unruly.

  • I got the job that I was really interested in, but I was half hoping I would not get it. I am sad thinking about going back to work and leaving the baby four months early......my mom is going to come to our house and babysit, but I feel sad and happy at the same time.
  • He is SO cute, TSD.
  • Cali- I try to keep it combed Richie Cunningham style to the side, but we've ceased all grooming the past few days. Mulva- thanks. He's cutest there in his "baby jail". ;-)
  • Dawg, maybe for kicks try this formula (or maybe this is what spark uses?) and see what number you get. 655 + (4.35x weight in lbs) + (4.7x height in inches) - (4.7x age in years) This is what jillian michaels' book uses in her making the cut book. It's designed for people losing 10-20 lbs and has a very difficult 30 day workout with it. It makes no adjustments for calories burned; you just do it for 30 days.
    image Guess who?
  • My confession is that I think Jillian needs to gain 10 lbs.

  • Is that current weight or goal weight?

  • I am curious about this workout.

For less then ten cents a day, you can feed a hungry child.
  • This is really more of a rambling rant than a confession, but I'm the boss of this board so no one can stop me:I just watched one of the homeless kids take off his pack and set it on the ground so his dog could lay down on it.  Then he took off his coat and put it around the dog.  This is really common behavior for the homeless kids I see downtown.  A lot of them let the dogs eat before they do.  This level of caring creates the most well balanced, sweet tempered dogs I've ever seen.  And most of them are pitbulls -- you know, those "dangerous" dogs that everyone worries about so much?Meanwhile, my neighbors stuff their dogs in the backyard so they don't have to listen to them bark.  People suck.

  • Fitty, that worked out to 1700 calories for me, which is definitely not weight loss mode.  I'm aiming at 1500 and coming up short most days.  Maybe it's much higher because of the calories you burn in the workout.  From what I've heard that workout is killer.

  • That's your bmr, not your weight loss number. So basically what you need to maintain your weight if you did nothing but normal everyday activity. She then adds 45 min of advanced circuit plus 45 of aerobic exercise. Again with no adjusting of calories to account for the workouts. My bmr number works for weight loss for me, I don't do the workout at the same time though.

  • I read and completed making the cut, I loved it.  I did 30 shred first then making the cut and read Mastering your metabolism.  That's the book that made me start eating organic.

  • Okay, I just did the math on that and I would need 1,108.95 calories a day.  Snizzle, I'm eating too much!  By George, I think that's it!

  • Damn it, I was wrong.  It adds up to 1338.35.  Back where I started.

  • my dietician suggested that I mix up the number of calories I got do that my body didn't get too efficient. so if 1300 is your goal, do a couple days of 1600 or so during your week and then a couple days of 1100

  • Maybe not, dawg. Remember, I eat that number of calories and I do virtually no exercise during that time (it's a matter of 2-3 weeks so no big deal). If I ate 1290 and did her workout I highly doubt I would lose weight. I don't know your fitness level but it sounds like you are lean and pretty well conditioned already? Remember that number doesn't account for body mass so you are probably underestimating calorie needs to begin with. Add in your exercise and you are really coming up short. Does that make sense? I am posting from my phone so my thoughts may not be complete up there.

  • Makes sense, fifty.  Thanks for your help.

  • here, i swear by this: http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/harris-benedict-equation/ using this equation, you put in your BMR and it factors in how much activity you do to determine how many calories your body burns on an average day. your BMR is just that, the basal rate, meaning the calories your body uses all by itself (to keep your heart beating, for digestion, etc) without ANY outside movement/activity factored in. even if you do zero exercise, you still need an activity multiplier. unless you weight like, 80 pounds, i can pretty much guarantee that 1200 cal/day for someone working out regularly (P90X, nonetheless) is waaaaaaaay too little.

  • This level of caring creates the most well balanced, sweet tempered dogs I've ever seen. Cali, I read once (maybe something Cesar Milan wrote?) that being homeless is actually an ideal lifestyle for a dog- not that their owners necessarily care for them more, but that being with their 'pack' 24-7, and all the miles they walk every day, leads to a very balanced, happy dog.

  • Blerg. I can't believe I read a 4 page confessions post that was 80% about calorie counting. BE MORE SCANDALOUS PEOPLE!

  • You must never have worked tech support. Some people need to be told that their fax machine will not work when the power is out. And that holding a piece of paper up to their monitor and clicking "scan" will not work.I've never worked in tech support, but I do have a friend that did. He told me once of a phone call he got, where a customer was complaining that the cup-holder on the computer broke. My friend asked, "Cup-holder?" and the customer said, "You know, you push the button and the thing with the hole pops out? I put my cup on it and it broke!"
