J&K, we really wanted a special date and something that people would remember. I mean how much better can you get than 9-10-11? Hopefully we can find a venue that has that date open that we also like! LOL, I hope I don't get flamed for this, but I've never seen that movie. Is that a requirement to be a regular on this board?
    Posted by starryeyed2011
Well...I wouldn't get too set on that date before you have a venue booked!  Have yous tarted looking?

And yes, get thee to Netflix or a movie store asap.

I have heard other newbs say it too. I wonder if it is because of the newb thing or because the responses newbs tend to give are more standard than things requring probing and a response? I don't really know, but it is interesting to me.

Whew - that'a a relief! I thought it was just me.  Like "ohhhh - newb! Scatter!"  I have a picture in my head of all the regs running to a new thread as soon as I post.

I do try to keep my posts pretty basic though.  I'm trying to get a feel for the personalties here, and I don't want to draw too much attention to myself.
  • Oh yeah, Starry, I think you're in for a bit of a surprise when you try to book anything on 9-10-11 at this point.  It's a very common wedding date.

J&K, I haven't looked yet. I figure I have plenty of time, since my wedding isn't until next year, you know. :) I don't even know what kind of place I want yet, but whatever it is will be pure fabulosity.

Just so you know, you really don't have plenty of time if that's going to be your date.  I've heard of girls here trying to book that date least year and being unable to find an open venue.  Just be open to changing your date down the line if that needs to happen.  You don't really have a date until you have your vendors booked.

Dates like that (like 10-10-10, or 8-9-10, etc) tend to be really popular.  Even though you're more than a year out, you might want to at least start looking.  Those types of dates tend to book up pretty quickly.

Check out my join date under my pic there.  I've been around these boards for a few years now.  I've seen many a bride come across these boards thinking they can wait until a year out to book a 10-10-10, or 6-7-8, or whatever, date and be terribly disappointed that they were all booked up.  The easy to remember dates always book fast.
Hi there!  I'm J, who are you? Tell us about yourself.  And your FI.  And how you met.  And when your wedding is. Who's your favorite?  Who do you wish we'd fly to whore island? If you're not going to answer the above questions, don't bother answering at all.  We see right through your "Well....I like everyone...only the really obvious trolls irritate me."  Don't lie to us.  It's insulting. But welcome, in any case :)
    Posted by J&K10910
So I don't know if I'm a semi-lurker..I don't post regularly, but I sometimes do if I find an interesting topic.  However, I've never introduced myself  so here ya go:

I'm "currently" a high school science teacher with a degree in marine biology.  My FI is a laid-off history teacher who is currently working in Philly as a seasonal Federal Park Ranger  - and looks soooo cute in his park ranger uniform :)

We knew "of" each other in high school and had a mutual friend.  Quick-ish summery of our "meeting".  I came back to my home town after being MIA for 6 years.  Had only one HS friend still in contact (J) and she invited me to another HS friend's BBQ.  Well, R was there, and we chatted - we kinda remembered each other from HS.   Later, I thought he was checking me out, but assumed I was imaging things b/c I was a little drunk.

I get a BF a little later (for 2 years),as did R,  during which time I go to R's house often for parties (with then BF).

BF becomes an EX - in a horrible way.  My friend J convinces me to go out on a date to get "back on my feet" and set me up.  I tell friend "Be at the bar, I will go there if said date is not going well".  Date was not going well, so I said "Let's meet J at the bar!"

R was there at the bar also.  BUTTERFLIES EVERYWHERE in my stomach.  Date from that night never called me, but R and I both called our mutual friend J for each other's numbers.  After one date, we were hooked <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif" border="0" alt="Laughing" title="Laughing" />

    Our wedding is 7-1-11

So - there are people on here that are my favorites, and some that I'm not too fond of ...but here is a confession - I really don't pay that much attention to names!  When you guys post about other people, I always have to look up the names and the posts.  I can't do that here, because I would loose all that I wrote - but I'll post this, look up some names I can't remember, then come edit it?  Does that count??

Morons desrve it.  Stupid people are one of my biggest pet peeves.  Don't get me wrong, I have my moments too.  But then it quickly dawns on me that I am being a moron and I make fun of myself.
  • Yeah, people who can plan their wedding in a few months are people who are really flexible on dates and stuff.  If you're dead set on that date, you better get moving.  And thank you, I love it too :)

Joll, you really have to see Fargo more than once to truly appreciate it's awesomeness.  The first time I saw it I was like "ummm...wtf?" and now I love it.  Pulp Fiction was the same way for me.  Gosh I love that movie.

Starry- I planned my wedding in about 6 months, but I didn't pick a very common date.  I'd suggest you get your ceremony and reception venues booked, and then maybe stall out a bit and not do any planning until a few months before your wedding.  That's how I've seen most people plan if they're having long engagements.
