a big trend in my area is not only burlap, lace and mason jar BUT cowboy boots with the wedding dress. They call it "Rustic Chic"
Please tell me others have seen this too.
You must be in the Midwest along with me. Fucking hell. Painted mason jars, mason jars, burlap bow tied pews and chairs, burlap lace runners, cowboy boots on the bridesmaids, cowboy boots on the bride, burlap lace burlap lace mason jars lace burlap. MAKE. IT. STOP. And my friend getting married in a year is doing exactly this. I'm getting married in a winery that has the rustic chic feel, or so I'm told. I cannot tell you how many times I've been offered mason jars, boots, lace and burlap. The only thing(s) lace will be my dress and my underwear. NO mason jars. NO burlap. NO boots. Its perfectly fine for people who associate with those things. I, do not. At all.
I feel your pain! Also getting married in a barn-like tavern where I will not allow mason jars and burlap. NO BURLAP. My FSIL just got married and had burlap everything. Burlap was everywhere -- it sheds like a dog and there was burlap threads in my clothes and all over the place. I kindly told her the place looked great, so she thought it would be a good idea to SELL me her burlap table runners, which was my queue to politely nod and say "oh, maybe! i'll let ya know!" (run away quickly)

I know I'm late to the conversation, but ughhhhh burlap, I don't understand! It's itchy and smells weird. Someone from my high school is getting married a month before me. Last week she posts on Facebook pictures of colored mason jars, decorated (mostly with burlap), and her bridemaids names on them to use as vases for their bouquets I am assuming at the reception. Okay, sorta of overdone, but kind of cool I guess. Two days later posts on Facebook about how she wants to start an Etsy business selling her decorated mason jars and if anyone would buy them. Next day I believe she must of been on a roll making them because she posts an album of other ones she's made. She basically just glued and/or wrapped one thing around them....like I could do that myself, why would I pay you on etsy for that! Funny thing is someone the same day someone posted something similar in a Facebook group I'm part of where people sell their wedding decorations locally and she was asking like $1 a piece (sure she had a bulk amount) and I was tempted to link that to her and be like here's the going price for these! Other story, FMIL took me to Hobby Lobby for the first time two weeks ago. A week earlier at Christmas we started talking about ideas for decorations and I told her no burlap or mason jars and she just looked at me like "okay?...didn't know that's what people use." After leaving the store she tells me she knows what I now mean and can't understand burlap because it's a weird dirty feeling fabric and she kept asking "I just don't understand what you do if you have an outdoor wedding and it gets wet!"

  • @yogadevil, when I read the first line, I thought you were serious about Rustic Goth!  People tag rustic on to so many things, goth is bound to come up some time!

My friend pinned this on Pinterest as a Valentine's Day gift/craft for her kids.  However, she didn't change the caption.
The caption is "Crayon hearts. So cute. Cut them up, put in mode. 230 degrees (I am assuming that is F) for 15 mins. Then cool Wedding favors? With a card that says thank you for coming, you color my world"  I don't know who in the world would think this is a good idea, unless you're only inviting children to your wedding.  I don't think I've even touched a crayon in over a decade.  What in the world is an adult supposed to do with this?

    image
Haha that's great! I did something similar yesterday but instead of hearts they were suppose to be rocks. In my defense it was for science day and I was dealing with 8th graders. But I have no idea what adult would want those...

It's mold, not "mode". It took me forever to figure out what they were trying to say.

This is a great arts and crafts project for a children's librarian, teacher, or daycare worker. These suck as wedding favors.

And here I thought that was another word for setting it to 230 degrees.  As in put the oven on "clean" mode or "bake" mode or "broiler" mode.
  • I saw pre-attached lace on burlap rolls in Walmart. Right next to the "bride dragging away the groom" cake toppers. So there you go.

    Things I hate..
Trash the dress - obvious reasons
    Burlap - ugly
Bride forcing groom jokes - like flower girls/ring bearers carrying a sign that says "last chance to run"... wtf? Actually, I'd add kids wearing signs as they walk down the aisle in general to this list.
Chevron - overdone, not just for weddings but everywhere
Black tie weddings - making your guests all rent tuxes? really? I'd even take a burlap-lace-mason-jar-barn wedding over this stuffy shit any day.
Crazy expectations of bridesmaids - besides wearing a dress, standing up next to me at the ceremony, and having fun, I don't really have any "duties" for my BMs
Mermaid style dresses - Unless you're tiny tiny tiny, they don't look flattering OR comfortable on most people IMO.
    FLOWER CROWNS. fugly.

I don't really mind mason jars but I probably won't be using them in any way for mine just since they're so overused. Same w chalkboard everything. Fine as an idea, just too overdone at this point.
Cowboy boots I'm not a big fan of, but probably just because I'm from the northeast and it's almost always cheesy when girls wear cowboy boots here for any occasion. If you're from Texas and grew up in cowboy boots, by all means. I do like converse though ;)
I do like and will be using the "sit anywhere" signs. This has been a big concern of FH since I have a lot more family than he does and many of his aren't local and may not come. We don't need to be thinking about one side being empty during our ceremony.
I also did send a little box with wine and chocolate for bridesmaids since all of mine are far away. I know it wasn't necessary but it was fun and I liked doing it!

According to Cracked.com, this picture is from a porn site. But my lack of faith in humanity says some bimbo on Pinterest will make this a real "trend."

haha I found this on Pinterest! Apparently it's a "trend" for bridesmaids to bare their butts in pictures.

:(  That's kind of mean.  I don't have a booty, I have kind of a flatter bum, which I can be self conscious about sometimes because I have a bit of chub.  There's nothing wrong with their bums, or anyone else's for that matter.

Well, aren't you a ray of sunshine. There's not much to say. Her opinion is mermaids only look good on tiny sized women. I differ. I have seen them look really good on a variety of sizes, but actually usually look better on ladies with natural curves. There's a thread right now on the apparel board where people are showing off their mermaid and trumpet dresses. Many of the ladies here have rocked fabulous mermaid and trumpet dresses (difference just being where the flare hits). I am not tiny and I have a mermaid and it looks awesome, much more so than the a-lines and ballgowns I tried on.

I know! Everyone has a different body shape, but I've seen many plus size women with gorgeous hourglass figures. I think a mermaid dress would look wonderful on them. Even if they don't have an hourglass figure, they can get any dress they want. I didn't wear the recommended dress for my body that some random Pintrest chart suggested. Haha

Have you posted naked ass pictures on the internet? No? Okay, so this doesn't really apply to you.

The point was, these are not even especially impressive butts. If you are going to take pictures of your bare ass for other people's viewing, you had better at least have an impressive butt.

P.S. SNARK. SNARKY BRIDES. Just saying.

    That's what I'm saying man.

I'm all about being proud of your body and everything, but if you are showing your ass I am going to judge it. Isn't that what they want, anyway? People to look and think about their asses? So I'm doing what they want me to do.

There is a time and a place for all asses, and wedding pictures are not one of them. If any of these flat girls were posting boudoir or porn, I would be like yeah rock on with your bad self. When it's not a good place for your bare ass, than I will judge that you showing off nothing.

That's like posting on a snark board that you are upset that someone else used your venue. People will snark and laugh at you. If you had posted that in Chit Chat, people would tell you that it's a dumb thing to be upset about but they understand.

    Location, location, location

Anyway, I guess I shouldn't shame anyone's body anywhere at anytime. Sometimes I just want to knock bitches down a peg or five.

And that brides garter looks like a knee brace. I thought garters were supposed to be thinner?

That's the thing. Being a Pinterest lemming means doing what Pinterest tells you, even if it's not your actual taste. Just choose what you like, whether or not it's popular. Which, when it comes to dresses means the shape you like on your body.

I suppose I was unnecessarily mean, and for that I apologize. But I'm not the one who needs to be sold on mermaid dresses (I'm wearing a trumpet-style myself).

Nope. The problem with this picture has nothing to do with the size or shape of anyone's ass.

    No ass shaming.

Behavior shaming? Hell yes, I support that. I am all over shaming stupid behavior.
Photographing bridesmaids asses is crass, stoopid, and juvenile. Shame on anyone who thinks it's cute.
The size and shape of the asses are irrelevant.

  • Honestly, I think those are nice asses.
