  • Killing an animal is particularly disgusting because they are completely innocent and defenseless.

  • Nugget- I dont think anyone is arguing the worth of the dog.

My point was that since the NFL is a private organization, and can have rules like that, then they should.

Im not saying the guy should rot in jail for life (although.......).  He should be allowed to live his life, and get a job.  That is his right.   Im just saying that the privilege of playing professional sports shouldn't be one of them.

To add- Ben and Kobe were never convicted of a crime.  I cant hold them to a standard if they didnt violate that standard.   Although personally, they should all be punched in diick repeatedly.

So if I went up and shot a guy on the street, that would somehow not be as bad as me going up and shooting a dog in the street because the dog is "completely innocent and defenseless."  And what, the guy was maybe kind of a d*ck and should have dodged the bullet?  I'm sorry, but I find that crime much more horrifying than the killing of a dog.

if you kidnapped a guy, made him fight to the death with others, then hung him, beat him against the concrete, electrocuted him, drown him, and then finally shot him, you would get life in prison.

If you do it to a dog, you get 22 months.

No, but 2 years for doing that to multiple dogs doesnt seem to fit the crime.  I think that is what Jas was saying when she mentioned dogs being unable to defend themselves.

Even if you don't consider the life as valuable, the intent is just as sick. You've got to be pretty fvcked in the head to do that to any living creature. So yes, if someone does that to an animal, I sure don't want them walking around.

We already know that those who abuse animals at a young age are far more likely to commit a violent crime. Even if it's "just" a dog, it's a huge indicator of a fvcked up saddist.

Like I said, I find crimes against animals disgusting.  I think he should have gotten longer than 22 months.  I think he should never be allowed to own another animal again.  And I think he's a giant twatburger.  I don't, however, think that the life of an animal is equal to the life of a human.  That's all I'm saying.

Also, I'm not going to let an innocent verdict keep me from thinking someone did something that they probably did and they just happened to get away with it because they were a famous athlete.  Yeah OJ, I'm looking at your crazy ass.

I'm not sure about the life sentence, but it's not just one dog he killed, it was many. Maybe 2 years per dog?
  • Nugget- I would need to see some actual and genuine progress. Behavior doesn't just go away. You either replace it with a new behavior, or you revert to your old behavior. He can no longer fight dogs. Now how will he get that thrill of watching something hurt?
I think Vick needs serious therapy. I would say the same for anyone convicted of this crime, sexual crimes, etc.

</div><div>Also, the nature of Vick's crime was horrid, like Blue said, it wasn't just killing a dog or two. I remember seeing ultra violet light footage of the room he did the fighting in, it was unspeakable. I will never forgive him because of that. Ever. Prison time, fines, even NFL banning is nothing compared to the torture he put those dogs through.</div><div>
</div><div>I also agree with Ricks about rehabbing criminals, so there's that too.</div>

Why do you not think they're the same? I'm not asking this in a challenging way, I genuinely want to know your reasoning. Why is a human life more important than a dog's life, to you? I mean, how can you deem one life to be more important than another?
  • Katie- That is just sad. I'm not a sports person at all, but I do see the value it has for people that can use athletics to get scholarships, etc. What is up with this self-destruction tendency?
    image
  • I feel confident saying that I wish Vick had gotten more time, and that he would have had to serve the time he did actually get.  Also, I would have been totally cool with them saying something like "1 year per dog" or something.  Did he get fined?  Because they should have fined his ass like, $250,000 per dog too.  Seriously, for some people you have to hit them in their wallets before they start paying attention.

Blue, I am SO with you on the NFL ban on felonies.  There is NO reason they should be allowing people with felonies to take part in a sport like that anyways.  Criminally violent guys going out every Sunday to bash the hell out of each other in a violent sport?  Yeah, real great idea Commish.
