I don't know if this makes me sound bad but I don't think I could love without AC. Edit: live! Not love. I'm a terrible iPad typer

<div>The really funny thing is we live, right now, in a split level. It's converted to a duplex and we're the whole top floor. I would think after you know, living in one, he wouldn't be set against them. He thinks the outside can't be made nice. I've been looking for some pictures to convince him.</div>

Haha I love 80 to 85... as long as it's not insanely humid. Either this summer or last, we had a ton of 90 degree and above days... that was pretty awful. I don't like when I go outside and I can barely breathe because it's so hot. My parents just bought a shore house though, so when it's really hot here, it will probably be amazing weather down there.. so at least I have somewhere to escape to!

I get like this too. FI can't handle heat though and gets really sick from it. I'm the exact opposite of him. He's always hot and I'm always freezing.

In the summer, I'm still sleeping with like 3 comforters on my side of the bed.
    imageWedding Countdown Ticker
  • It never occurs to me to not use the big fluffy comforter during the summer. I love being bundled up in that thing. H just likes the sheet, so we just turn on the fan and AC more.

I am getting a migraine. I think it's from not drinking any cokes today. I should go get a Pibb.
  • Erin, we live in a split level, but not the kind where you enter the front door and then go up or down.  You enter through the front door into the living room and then at the side of the room is an up to the bedrooms and a down to the family room, laundry room.

  • Erin, I hated the split-level when we first got it, but Jeremy LOVED it. I grew up in a ranch, so split-level is weird to me.  But I like it now. Our first floor is really open (the ceilings in the living room/dining/kitchen are vaulted so they're probably 12 feet at the peak?) The outside of the house is super ugly, though, so it probably won't help your cause.  We were going to repaint, but we're going to hold off until we can just fully replace the siding. (ick.)

    A few pictures:
front (we've trimmed that tree, replaced the windows, and taken out all of the bushes in the front, which made a HUGE difference)

listing photo where you can see teh house better

entryway (carpet is no longer burnt-orange shag!) You can see the edge of the closet there  on the right ;)

The one thing I love about the split-level is that the basement isn't fully underground, so it stays pretty light down there.
  • I know. I am pumped to B/C it's in my fav city and my home town, New Orleans. Kate, I'd say join us but you live a million miles away lol

  • Thanks, Steph! I will try to get my H to look at the potential. I'm so tired of house hunting, I am about to buy the next house we look at.

  • The Color Run looks like something I could actually have fun with. I'm genereally not a person who likes to get messy, so I avoid things like Tough Mudder and Warrior Dash, but rainbow paint, I could get on board with. I'm not much of a runner though so the length of the race would be an issue for me. I literally can't run a half mile outside without my lungs seizing up. Indoor tracks are another story... I guess it's because the air is different outside.

  • ski- some of the houses on my block are like that too. I'd rather have one like that. The kitchen and living rooms are on the same floor as the entrance, right? And then you go up or down to the rest of the living areas?

Erin, I can PM you my zip code. There are a ton of houses for sale here, and they are ALL 1970s split-levels ;)

Our neighbor's house is really nice looking, and it's a split too. This picture is pre-flip, but the layout is the same. The guy who bought it and flipped it cleaned up the windows, siding, and landscaping. Same general look, just cleaner. I like the low-grade shrubs way more than the monsters that were in front of our house.

ETA: TK won't let me upload pictures. I'll be back with a few.

  • I would agree with Steph, it is a must for the basement to not be underground so that you get lots of natural light.  Our bedrooms/bathrooms are up, family room/laundry room down, living room/kitchen, 1/2 bath on main level.

  • I really want to do the Color Run, I am just so lazy about actually working out. I think I've gone out once in the last two weeks, but running's been a bit of an issue for me lately. My left knee gets twinges that get progressively more painful when I run, but it's fine when I bike so I think it's probably just the impact and me not doing a good enough job of loosening it up before I go out.

    That story pisses me off.

I had a teacher who used to speak to students like that in grade 5. She humiliated me in front of the classroom and kept calling me stupid because I didn't understand something in French and started mocking me. All but 2 students transferred from French Immersion to English in less than a month for basically the same reasons. She didn't come back the next year and I have no idea where she went.

My mom and few other parents completely lost it when they found out what was going on.

I mean I can imagine that having to deal with special needs kids all day everyday can be taxing, but if you cant handle it, dont do it you know?  Berating kids is bad enough, but berating kids with special needs?  Those cvnts should be punched right in the face.
