A lot of entry level jobs elsewhere are going to start far above $30k with just an education, especially a Masters degree.

I'd rather see higher salary up front and no tenure or guaranteed annual pay increases.

Look, I make $40k and it's really not that much money. At least not in Minneapolis. I'm not complaining, but I would NEVER teach for this money. I don't have to take work home with me every night, I don't have to stock my own office with my paycheck, I don't have to buy Klneexes for all my coworkers out of my own paycheck, and I don't have to deal with everyone in the world telling me how to do my job- parents, coworkers, the government, and every single person in the general public.

[QUOTE]Nebb, what kind of pizza did you make.  We had Skinny Shrimp Alfredo.  It was okay, probably better as leftovers as most pastas are.

One pizza was just green peppers and mushroom with mixed cheese ontop, the other was mushroom and pepperoni, which was good but not as good as the other IMO (im not a big pepperoni fan).

I guess my point is that I would love for there to be a system in place that makes teaching exclusive.  Like, only for the people who can do it well.  And then pay those people well and keep them happy.  I dont care the price, as long as the results are there.  I dont pretend to know how to do that, but I wish it was how it worked.

Topic change. We need some extra storage in our kitchen. Is this super tacky looking? I don't want to spend a ton, because *eventually* we're going to redo the cabinets in the kitchen. I just want something extra to hold the food and it needs doors to keep the damn dogs from inhaling all of my groceries.

I think the dealing with parent thing all depends on the administration. I had a meh principal for 5 years. He let the parents say whatever they wanted to us and demand whatever they wanted. My principal when I left? Amazing. She took the lead with the parents and didn't give in to some ridiculous demands.

Sounds yummy.  I love homemade pizza.  My kids (when home from college), like it when I get out the little personal pans, and put ingredients in bowls and everybody makes their own.  Really alot of work and we only have 4 of the little pans so it doesn't happen that often.

<div>sure they do. There is no one that would graduate with an MBA and take a job for less than $30k without benefits. Most of my friends that got jobs in the private sector are probably making double me and only a few years out of college. no lie.</div>

But no pension.  I think people forget exactly how long and how much a pension is paid out for.  You can retire at 55 and get basically a full salary until you die.  And then your spouse gets it.

The pension is probably what bothers me the most because teachers end up staying as long as they can to get the most pension benefits.  When they should have retired years before that.

Steph - I think that's okay.  Can you use it in the garage or basement for storage when you're done with it?  I've had good luck with overstock.com too.  This is a little more than the one you linked, but I dunno...  http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Tall-Cabinet/3303407/product.html
