I'm just curious, but Achiduck, have you read the HP books or seen the movies?

I don't really think they are kids books. They deal with some pretty adult topics, especially in the later books.

Nebb, I think the majority of kids today are entitled, self-absorbed, stupid brats and my prayer is that they can pull their heads out of their powdered asses enough to hopefully educate themselves enough to not run the world into the ground.

Note - I didn't say all kids.  Just a lot of them.  A hell of a lot of them.

I think NASCAR is dumb. I don't understand the appeal of watching cars zoom around in circles.

I also agree that there is no problem with adults reading and loving YA books. I am currently building a library of YA books I love so that when I'm a teacher I can pass them on to my students and hopefully encourage them to be lifetime readers.

I think people have always thought the generation after them felt entitled and self involved. I think it's just one of those things, like how ever since the crucifixion some people have been convinced the end of the world was imminent. If I think about it this way it helps me feel better about how stupid the youth today seems.

Yes, I have and I honestly didn't see the appeal so I made the decision not to follow it anymore. It's not really my favoured genre, so it's not surprising that I didn't think it was ZOMG amazing.

Saying "I don't like something" is not the same thing as saying "I think it's ridiculous that you like something because I, grand arbiter of age, have declared that you're too old to like it." That's all I'm taking issue with.

Maybe you should read Hunger Games.  I frankly didn't realize it was YA until I got like half way through the book. It explained why all the characters were 16 but still. Those books are good.

I love HP :) I just have to let it out.

Although there are plenty of self-entitled brats, there are also multitudes of awesome, socially conscious youth. I think self-entitled people will always be drown out by those with a purpose.

I love kids, but I don't want any.

I don't think television or book preferenecs are indicative of intelligence. I dig reality tv! It's escapist and fun.  I don't think it is any different than actors that are popular for being good looking without any real talent. Actors aren't famous because they've done awesome shiit for the world. They're either talented or nice to look at.

I don't understand getting up early to wait in line at Starbucks for 30 minutes before work. Sleep in and make your own coffee.

I am contitinually annoyed that TK won't let me say shiit, but will let me say fucking.

The whole "you're 12 if you like HP!" and the "fuckyou HP is some heavy shiit!" arguments just get old to me.  I don't understand why people need to judge each other for reading it or not reading it.  I hate when people say "Harry Potter sucks" as much as I hate when people say "Um, have you even read Harry Potter?"

What else does everyone like to read?  Science fiction, trashy romance, autobiographies... seriously!  Who cares?

I agree, AATB.  Reading is good for everyone, regardless of whether it's YA, poetry, HP, Hemingway, or Sartre.  Read!  Hell, even if it's just People magazine it's a plus.  Twilight is NMS, but I'm happy that others enjoy it.  Whatever.

I loved reading HP and Twilight to connect with Manda, but I can't say I'd have picked them up on my own. But anyone who reads is OK in my book, no matter what you read. Any story is an exploration into a different viewpoint and setting from your own: Whether it's a real place or imagined doesn't matter. What matters is you are taking the time to explore and open your mind to something other than Kim fucking Kardashian. :)

My unpopop is that I abhor animal prints of any kind. All of them. No matter how it's used. Animal print cheapens clothing, decor and weddings in my mind. I cringe when I see it.
