If we are being honest, about 90% of the IF world get offended by the word "natural".  Does that make IF babies unnatural robots or something?

I mean, it doesnt bother me, but say "natural" on tb and you will probably get crucified.

I'm not Steph but I feel like asking if multiples ran in the family wouldn't really be rude at all.  There's just something superawkward about asking "so, how did you get that human to grow inside you? with technology or the old fashioned way?"

    I don't think so.

But usually if someone has used fertility treatments, it's because they've spent at least a full year trying to get pregnant 'naturally' with no success. Clearly, it's going to be a sensitive topic. I don't think Brandi meant it that way at all, but it still amazes me that people ask it.  I also have close friends/family who have gone through IF, including IVF, etc and I don't know why anyone woudl ever think it's ok to ask.
  • Nebb, I don't wash the cucumbers and H gets all weird about it if he notices. He starts lecturing me about bacteria and pesticides. I tell him "well they spray them at the store with their mister things. That's good enough for me."

I mean, really. If there are pesticides on it, chances are they've seeped down into the whole thing so washing the surface won't do much. That's my theory, anyway.

Most of the bad stuff on fruits and veg can't be washed off just with water anyways, so its pointless. Just a waste of time. I think a bit of dirt and bacteria is good for you anyways.

JCB, I think there's a big difference between asking if multiples run in the family, and flat out asking if someone had IVF.  IVF seems like a rather invasive procedure that might be a last resort for people who have been trying to have a baby for a long time (though I do realize that isn't ALWAYS the case).  It's generally a really personal/emotional decision that some people may not be comfortable discussing, especially on the internet with a bunch of "strangers".

I can't quite find the words I'm looking for to explain it, but multiples running in the family is just a totally different situation to me and I wouldn't be offended at all if someone asked me that.  I would be offended if someone assumed I may have had IVF just because of a possibility that I may be pregnant with twins.

I also dont think she meant any harm by it.

Although, almost noone IRL knows what I have gone through, just you guys.  So maybe im not  much different than the other girls.

I never used to wash veggies (unless I could tell they needed it) until I was cooking dinner with a friend and started chopping some without washing them first.  She freaked the eff out at me over it.  Then I just got into the habit of doing it.

I prefer to leave the skin on. They don' taste the same without it.

I used to go to my grandma's for dinner every Wednesday growing up and she always had a bowl of peeled cucumbers and ranch for me, since I didn't like salad. I don't know how it started, because I've always preferred the skin. So, for some 18 years she's thought I like them that way, and for 18 years I haven't said otherwise. Now, it'd just be weird.

<div>FFS.  Yes, that's true,  but the same general point applies to other fertility treatments too.  I just think it's incredibly rude to ask someone something so personal, especially based on ONE piece of information that doesn't even indicate fertility treatments in most cases. </div>

  • I don't wash my fruits and veggies and I'm not a huge hand washer. I wash my hands after going to the bathroom but when I worked in the classroom, I never thought about it during the day. I never got sick. So unless something is really wrong on the inside, I'm still super healthy and have a kick ass immune system.

I would say yes and no.  I made the assumption (and I should know better) that since the pregnancy was openly discussed on the board that it wasn't something that would be 'touchy' per se.  I would never walk up to someone IRL that had multiples and ask.  I can see how that can be viewed as me doing that here, and I understand that, but it was just me thinking it wasn't a taboo subject.

I'm offended by women who get uppity about having a 'natural' birth (meaning drug-free).  I had demerol when my daughters were delivered, and those births weren't any less 'natural' than someone who went drug-free.  If someone chooses to go drug-free, that's great; the type of pain relief in the birth plan is a choice every pregnant woman makes, but it doesn't make my deliveries unnatural compared to theirs.

A lot of people dont realize that though.  They just assume that IVF is the only option.

Look at Jon and Kate.  She didnt do IVF.  She did an IUI.  Most high order multiples are a result of IUI not IVF.
